      I totally understand this, I am also a repair technician, and fixing a device always makes me super happy!
      I am definitely nowhere near as good at soldering as Alex, I do not have all the equipment he has, and I don't have his insane skills at tracking down short circuits, even though I perfectly understand basic electronics such as buck converters etc...
      But I do a little bit of component level repair here and there, and otherwise it's mostly just replacing whatever's dead, and optimizing machines because it's crazy how many people just buy new computers because the old one is insanely powerful with a lot of potential yet runs PAINFULLY SLOW!
      This is also partly OEMs fault for installing bloatware, using garbage thermal paste, terrible cooling sometimes, and terrible drives too.

    You keep saying the magic of low melt solder and you know what? It's completely true. It makes stubborn components a breeze to remove.
    I've been using the stuff you sold me and it's great! Same with the NF.V2 grinding pen as well. It's much easier and more precise than scraping with a scalpel. • @TenkaiSp
      @TenkaiSp Год назад +1

      I think some caps just work as means to smooth out the incoming current, there are not connecting any traces together. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't be replaced

    • @mal6232
      @mal6232 Год назад +4

      @
      TenkaiSp pretty much has it, capacitors fit in one of two categories - coupling and de-coupling. The size of the capacitor is an indication of which 'camp' the capacitor is in, if it is physically quite large it is likely a smoothing capacitor (de-coupling the supply from the noise) and the board will most likely function without the capacitor fitted, if it is a small capacitor it is most likely a coupling capacitor (AC coupling two parts of a circuit together) and there is a much greater chance that the capacitor is required for the circuit to function.(and its value is probably more important to get right) The large cap that was blown on this board could probably be replaced with pretty much any value capacitor of a similar physical size (providing the rating is ~20v or more).

    • @Andreas_Straub
      @Andreas_Straub Год назад

      @@TenkaiSp This depends where the cap is in the schematic and how much voltage instability the supplied circuit will tolerate. In the worst case the supplied circuit may fail/die when not supplied with a sufficiently large cap filtered supply.
      Sometimes these caps are also used as timing elements - then the function will fail. Sometimes - when being used as coupling caps between stages - signal will not come through and for example audio or alike will fail, if they are missing.
