wish you'd told me - dover is 5 mins away from Mother's - i'd have tried to come to say hello and share a pint or two in a local hostelry...was a mean storm though
did you get a chance to visit the battle of Britain museum at nearby Hawkinge ??? there were a number of WW1 airfields in the Dover area including Swingfield which was the main camp before the channel crossing to France for the RFC Squadrons - later used as the site of the WW2 Dover Chain Home radar station
Sadly we were limited on time, we arrived Friday evening quite late only leaving time to eat and a quick beer, Saturday was the wedding with our little tour during the rather wet morning... and we hit the road at 9am Sunday... so I do apologise , however having now seen a fraction of whats on offer I will be returning to see more.... and when the next trip is planned I will let you know in advance .
@@BLOWN8CYLINDER no need for apologies - was an absolute shite day anyway, 3 museums down here worth visiting - Hawkinge BoB museum and Manston - the airfield history museum and the Spitfire and Hurricane museum.... but its a long way south i know from personal experience .....right - better start getting mum up and the day started - ever seen groundgog day thats what its like 8)
@@British-Hauntings-and-History I think my next trip down will be for a few days so hopefully get to see more locations and people .... As for my day..... 51 Squadron are having lunch at the museum, it will be the first time RAF Officers of 51 Squadron have had lunch in the former WAAF Officers quarters since 1945! I might do a little bit of filming.
Thank you , it really is an amazing place and I will be returning to see more! As for the Island, I have never been but certainly a place I would like to visit.
Brilliant vid,its a trip down memory lane for me,spent hours all over and under the heights, the garage dates back to when the barracks were built and the only building that survived, love the Victorian timber roof and beams
It certainly is an amazing place Terry, I could do with that workshop moving to the museum, far superior to my tin workshop! Has to be said I was amazed at what I did see and can't wait to return and see more.... Hopefully we can have a meet up?
Ha ha with my Poundland coat :D
At least it did what was needed.... 😁
That was awesome. Thank you for sharing your explore in Dover.
