This is our Strat and Tele guide for beginners. If you’re an advanced player this might be obvious for you.
And you know that we know that you know what you know.
Which other comparisons would you want to see in this series?
//cheers, Kris
please explain neck shape / form / thickness.
We know you know we know you know we know what we know... but since you know we know you know we know what we know, then shouldn’t you know what we don’t know because we don’t know what we don’t know? I sure as hell don’t know...
On a serious note, why not go one step further and do classic licks/riffs made famous by one guitar and contrast it with the other playing the same lick/riff to highlight the difference? I think beginners will definitely be able to relate instantly. Love the vids cheers
@@chocolatepinkspiderThat's a really great suggestion. Very insightful 👏🏽
I am definitely a person
I think you win the internet
The MAIN difference is one is good and the other is the best
Yep, Tele is the best. No doubt :)
@@orriolbohigas591 ugliest guitar but my favioute sound
Wich one u talking about?
I need a tele body with strat pick ups..😂
I like how you guys edit around the guitar swapping and just play guitars back-to-back. That really makes these differences easy to hear
Why compare the sound. There are thousands of videos out there touching this exact basis. I wonder if you could have touched on ease of use of the neck, neck shape, string spacing for beginners etc.
The guy with the glasses looks like the drummer of The Black Keys
I always loved the simplicity, and tone, of the Tele.
I always find that something gets lost in translation over RUclips when listening to strat and tele pickup differences. They don’t sound significantly different for some reason. When you listen to a professional recording though I find it much easier to tell the difference. But also as an owner of both, I can hear a huge difference when playing them.
Hendrix had a quote about telecasters....teles has two sounds one of them is a good sound
I was a Strat guy for years until I finally bought a Tele. The fatter sound of the Tele neck pickup won me over.
All I hear is how amazing strat is, and nothing about tele. Horrible contents.
Chris looked like a teenager beside thia tall guy. Good content mate!
Tele, IMO, in contrary to most, its fatter than strat but it has tons of high mids and high.
Strat is more versatile though, gives you option of trem too which is fun.
Which is best? Both, they're what they are. Fantastic instruments.
"most beautiful clean sounds on strat" - Jeff Buckley wants to know your location
It is decided I need one of each, thanks guys😏
I just got an electric guitar from my relatives and I dont know anything about guitars before so this really helped me identifying that mine was a strat
I love Strats (and the Tele bridge pickup with medium gain is a thing of beauty) but, lately I’ve been loving Jazzmaster sounds. I think you better make more videos. 🤓
next should be between jazzmaster and jaguar
get a strat and a les paul best of both worlds. 🤟🏼
i found the perfect guitar for me: Fender Pawn shop 51. Strat body, Tele neck, 50's Precision bass look, strat single coil (neck) and splittable humbucker (bridge)
Cool
Strats can also sound great for Jazz by using the neck pickup with the volume up full and the tone turned down quite a bit.
Stratocaster - shimmering, glassy
Telecaster - twang, growl
Neck pickup - Strat
Bridge pickup - Tele
Winner - HSS Strat
I am currently enjoying playing a Fender Strat which has a Hot Rails pickup in the bridge position. This means that the guitar now boasts 4 classic Strat settings with the bridge now being a very usable fatter tone with slightly more output. The original bridge pickup sounded extremely shrill and tinny and was useless.
Tele person or Strat person? Yes....
I thought at some point they were gonna say, I'm Hans, and I'm Franz, and were here to pump you up.
Strat, and Gibson Les Paul. I’ve never played a tele, and probably never will.
Nashville tele!
The correct answer is both. Both should be owned if you love that single coil sound. Then of course you can buy one of each with a bucker or two in for good measure.
I have a lot of respect for Tele players, especially as it's easy to end up with a sound which is unpleasantly "hard" in the upper mids... but of course I want one.
shpalman7 you have to work a tele. That’s the beauty of it. And if you do it right magic happens.
//cheers man, Kris
The difference in the sound is very little..the tele is more trebly and the strat more mellow..both have the unmistakable Fender sound
Last part was killing 😂. Animal on the phone 😂
A Strat without a trem!?
The Stratocaster has the most balanced tone
THINK YOUR WRONG ABOUT CLEAN TONE ON A TELE MANY TIMES IT CLEANER THEN A STRAT NOT USING FENDER PICKUP
The difference is Telecasters rock and Strats suck.
Both Strat and Tele Are great for rhythm guitar.
But the strat is better for lead guitar than a tele because of warm sound of the neck pickup and better access to the upper frets
Oh man you guys did the Tele dirty in this. I prefer the tele sound over the quack myself
I have really tried to like teles. I love the sound but just don’t get on with them. Uncomfortable I guess. I currently own 4 Strats 😁
Yeah! No proper arm rest, really uncomfy.
Just the reverse for me!
Dont get a les paul then!
Ummm. This let me thinking. How far can one go to make a strat sound like a tele and viceversa? It would be a good video. Jerry Donahue walked that path somehow, he used a Strat pickup in the neck in his Tele and used some weird wiring to achieve some strat goodness.....
Don't forget that great Tele twang sound for country!
So out of the box how is the bridge set typically on a strat? Would I have to have it adjusted at my guitar tech? Im talking player series mim fender
Set it up to float. Sounds like bells.
A bit partial Review to say the least.
agreed
This review is definitely biased towards the Strat. I love them both. I can’t decide. That’s why I have 2 American Standards. One is a strat and the other is a tele.
@@TangoDownOIF which do you prefer? I am pretty new and the Tele is the absolute best sounding electric guitar in my newbie opinion but picked up a Strat and it is so nice to hold.
It takes years to pull it all out of a telecaster.
your mom
Now will Guillaume need to pick up a tele at the next trade show ?
Already looking forward to it !!haha
Oh no no no. I’m the residential tele guy in this pack. Gil, stick to your strat, brother. Or do you want to shoot a sequel to this with me? Hmm? Do you want to start a fight? I hope so. :-D
//Kris
tell a friend Tele WAR .....LOL
//Poo
Guillaume C. Brother I hope you’re listening. Now it’s too late to back off. Ha ha! This will be fun.
//Kris
@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses Mate I 've been preparing for this my whole life, let's do it!
Definitely just an animal.. but, with good ears.. I love them both.. I own a Strat.
Hm... Tele or Strat? I take both.
Just fell in love with an american made G&L Asat Classic
Es 335 vs Les paul please...!!
Great video, very clear! I wonder why when you stop playing, there is no hum. Do you use some noiseless pickups? edit the video? some other solution? Thanks!
Always think Tele's just lol like slabs of wood compared to a Strat. 🎸🎸
That was great! I'm a novice, but I'm a guitar psycho!!! 🎸
I jumped as a beginner through a few guitars and settled on a Nashville Tele. It’s my only guitar now. A strat is probably next.
i think tele is goo for strumming and tele is for like shredding or in melodies
thank you for quick and really useful review!)
I have both, and I pick up my Strat more often. Love that guitar.
The tele has a softer sound, better for dreampop indie i think
This video is 👍
I dont even iwn an instrument, but the tele looks so much cooler
Nice video guys! I'd be interested in a comparison between Les Paul + SG vs. Strat. + Tele. In other words Gibson vs. Fender. I like them all for their own characteristics. Among these, the SG seems to be the less popular, I'd like to know why, because Angus Young and I disagree :P I know the SG was originally the student guitar made by Gibson but it seems to be more than just a student guitar in the end judging by how famous it's become among historical rock bands.
i don't think the sg was meant to be the student guitar. they stopped building the les paul and replaced it with the sg.
@@BigEdWo I read or heard somewhere not long ago, tho I can't remember who or where it was, but a pretty reliable source said the SG was originally the model Gibson put out for students or beginners, again originally, which doesn't mean it didn't change over the years. Wish I could quote or ref to the source, but I can't remember it
@@jeronimomartinezfabregas i don't say you are wrong, because i don't know for sure either. but i think we would have heard of a pre 60's sg then. i don't think they exist, do they?
@@BigEdWo Hey! I looked up the history of the SG and I agree with you: they came out in 1961 as the new "Les Paul"; since the Les Paul hadn't sold well before then and Gibson decided to redesign it. So the SG was called "Les Paul" until 1963; but since Mr. Les Paul hadn't designed it and didn't even like it or want his name on it, it was renamed as the SG in 1963 (when Les Paul's contract with Gibson ended and they no longer held rights to use his name on their guitars).
The thing is, it was so popular and sold so well despite Les Paul himself despising it that it practically saved Gibson. There were originally 4 models: the (LP) Jr, with only one P90 near the bridge; the (LP) Special, with 2 P90s; The Standard, with 2 humbuckers, as the modern SG is mostly known today; and the Custom, with 3 humbuckers. Maybe the first 2 were cheaper and therefore sold mostly to beginners, hence what I heard about them being student guitars, or maybe there was some other reason for that statement...can't remeber now where I heard or read that.

You guys are great . Less bla bla , short videos , no nonsense about your personal lives where no one gives a shit , no attitude. Keep doing this !!
I have 2 Strats and 2 Teles.
My Strats are a red Aria Legend with Standard Fender AlNiCo 5 and a white HB ST-62 Deluxe with Fender Vintage Noiseless Pickups. Both Strats have 10-way Freeway switches.
Teles are one metalic blue HB Standard TE-20 with Roswell AlNiCo Goldfoil in the Neck and Standard in the Bridge and the second one a sunburst HB TE-90 FLT "Cabronita" with Roswell Filtertrons.
All guitars are maple necks. I am covered. ;-)
Both thw Strat and tele Are classic rock guitars
I can’t play a strat anymore because the strings are too loose etc and have a tele deluxe instead .
For me tele i like it midrange.
Tele number one
Gibson SG standard 🙌🙌
So is Kris Short or is Andy tall 😜 great video guys
Strat vs. Tele: I go for Viola.
Just a matter of taste.
Own both, love both. Tele is a rock machine, Strat is a funk machine.
Karl Traunmüller strat is a rock machine as well ( richtie blackmore)
karl i think there is some truth to it
He says the opposite XD
try james burton tele
As a complete guitar novice all I wanted to know was , what is the visual difference
You mean the feel and physical differences ? Such as neck and body and all round profile and feel of playing?
//ciao, Kris
Question.. if i have an SG what would be the one to buy to have a more options/variety? thanx to anyone that answers
Buy something with single coils. SGs are awesome humbucking guitars.
@@jeramym9506 Yeah thanks. A les paul is like Third or fourth option
What is the amp you are using and what were the settings to get the overdriven sounds?
It was the Blackstar ID Core combo. If my memory serves me well it was the 100W version.
"Clean bright" Voice for the clean sounds and Crunch Voice for the gainy sounds.
//cheers, Kris
Im a Strat player
I prefer a SS Tele and an HSS Strat
Sweet!
i'd never buy anything from thomanns again, they rippied me off with a 70's firebird that wasn't "new" and also my neighbour had issues with his p.a which he returned, just don't need the hassle, never going to happen again
Tele has what you need and nothing more, I couldn't be bothered with any trem systems. Leo got it right 1st time with the Tele, is Andy about 7 feet tall btw ?
You forgot to mention the option to block the vibrato, that way it's as stable as the Tele...
which one is best for blues ?
chris vdv telecasters are awesome guitars but for out and out blues playing a strat is hard to beat
you should play the guitar that inspires you the most. they are both great and there is no better.
the slime dime
A Tele is better than a Strat. It looks better, it has 3 usable pickup positions. IMO the Strat only has 2 (2 and 5 positions). A Tele is great for jazz on the neck pickup, rock on the bridge, country or whenever you want that distinctive sound.
The only downsides to a Tele are no trem and no body contours on most Teles.
Most any PRS is better than both of course. :)
> A Tele is better than a Strat. It looks better...
Just no. One of the ugliest shapes ever.
I totally agree tele is the sharper of the two in sound. I like the looks better as well.
Tele's look better than Strats? Lmao keep dreaming 🤣
Very well explained!
I actual love to rock a Tele any day. In the original configuration (single coils and brass vintage bridge) it’s such a direct, dirty and honest sound it’s breathtaking.
And yet I find myself playing a Strat more despite me only really loving 2 of the 5 positions. It’s just so easy to play and it comforts your ears.
Still, I wish any guitarist can experience the pleasure of playing a Tele on a very loud slightly crunchy amp. It’s just amazing.
Haha...so less different...who cares....
Strat biased subjective opinion
Nahhhhh
//Andy
Great video guys. Cheers.
Okay I can't be the only one... I think Teles are the ugliest shape ever, right after the firebird. I'm sorry I just can't stand the upper wing.
robben ford and richie kotzen look really good with a tele. of course it's a matter of taste. i once hated the shape of the tele too. but i got over it.
i believe the tele is a superior guitar.
Who cares = same O'l BS from 1953' LAME & Boring!!!
