    Hi, congratulations on your self-published book. I will purchase your book because I need ideas and visual stimulation to get my book published by the end of the year. I have been writing for a few years and do know that there is a book that I am supposed to publish. I have pages, post its, and journals that I have written, and they are scattered in many places.
    Thank you for sharing this process and your book.

    Great video! Question: I’m also working on a collection of poetry. How do you know/decide when it’s done? So far I’ve kinda just chosen a theme or subject for the collection, and gathered some of my already existing pieces to start. And I’m just continuing to build on that. But I’m not really sure when I should aim to call it “done”, other than choosing a somewhat arbitrary piece or page count.
    Thoughts?

    • @tatysapp

      That's a really good question. So for my first book I picked a release date (it was 2022 & I wanted the release to be 4/4/22 lol) and after I had about 75% of the book done I aimed to finish it before the release date. The new book I'm working on I aimed to compile at least 100 pieces before I even start editing. I suggest you start looking into self publishing sites now, start to get an idea of cover art, page minimums, etc. and once you have an author copy decide from there if it feels "done".

      @@tatysapp I also have a short poem collection but I'm not sure how to put it out there I need help with the legal side of the game copyright and stuff and learning how to not only do the phisical book but ebook as well id appreciate your assistance with this matter and you can always be my mentor if you like 😂

      @@joseromero9933 hey!! So the copyright process was a lot easier than I expected, you can copyright unpublished work but you will have to pay and file copyright again after you publish, so it can be a waste of money. What you're able to do is file fro copyright when you start taking pre-orders for your book. I set up preorders a month before my book was officially published and received my copyright letter the DAY my book was available for general orders. Ebook is easy, you don't necessarily need an ISBN for ebooks but you can get one for both. And Amazon KDP if you publish solely with them you can get the ISBN for both for free.

    Great video! I want to self publish a poetry book & I’m curious about how much it would cost to copyright a book?

    • @tatysapp
      @tatysapp  Год назад +2

      Hey! Copyright was a $65 cost.

    • @tatysapp
      @tatysapp  Год назад +2

      I definitely recommend paying to copyright published work, unpublished you end up paying twice once the work is actually published. So I made my "preorder" date the published date to give myself time to receive my letter before the book started to actually be received / read by people.

      @tatysapp  Год назад +1

      @@shana-gaysmart819 I'm so sorry for the delay! So you can copyright 2 ways, unpublished work and published. If you copyright something that's unpublished you end up paying twice because you have to copyright again when the work is published.

    Where do you format the book, words, Canva, or Amazon? I am finished writing and edited so now it’s about publishing.

    • @tatysapp
      @tatysapp  Год назад

      I have a MacBook and used the "pages" to equivalent to MS Word. I formatted the document to be the size I wanted the book to be and started formatting how I wanted each piece layout to be based on that.

    Are their illustrations/drawings/pictures on the inside of your book?
    How important are illustrations on the inside pages to maybe accompany each poem?

    • @tatysapp
      @tatysapp  5 месяцев назад

      I only have a few illustrations, at the beginning and the end of my book. I think that's definitely up to each writer how they envision their book. Initially I wanted multiple illustrations, but as the book formed I didn't feel having them included would fit the book format.

      @@tatysapp oh thank you so much for ever being ever so kind to reply. I appreciate you. Mine is a collection of African poetry and I live West Africa, I sure as hell cannot afford multiple illustrations so based on what you have said I now know it is okay to put a few illustrations in the inside pages and a few black and white pictures here and there. Thanks a lot!

    Was the whole book copyrighted for just $65 or $65 each? Just starting researching I have most of my poetry book written just looking for how to put it all together.

    • @tatysapp

    What’s the page and word limit for Amazon?

    • @tatysapp
      @tatysapp  Год назад +1

      I believe the min page requirement was like 70ish. They may state on Amazon KDP, but basically when I uploaded my first draft of my book I was told the number of pages didn't meet the minimum and I added pieces based on that.

      Hi answering all these questions or you, so I actually hired a friend of mine to do the illustrations. If you know any local graphic artists in the style you're looking for I would ask them what they charge.
