  • Why Is My Laptop So Slow And How To Make It Faster
So you have a old slow laptop and want to speed it up? well this video is for you. The best way make your old laptop fast again is either replace the CPU if the CPU has has a socket in the old laptop. The second way is to add more ram to the laptop if possible. The third way is to replace the hard drive and install a SSD into the laptop.

    Nice video.
I upgrade old computers with SSD's all the time. Just did 2 yesterday.
Only thing you have to wait for is the clone process, and even that is painfully slow for the final copy of data from the old drive to the new one.
9 times out of 10 on old systems, all you need to do is get replace those clunky, grindy, mechanical hard drives, and don't need to upgrade RAM at all to see an incredible speed performance.
Honestly, I don't know how we survived years ago without SSD's, and have no idea how they are even allowed to be in some systems being sold brand new today. It's almost criminal to do so.

    • @JaapGinder
      @JaapGinder 2 года назад +1

I did that just last month. Indeed the clone process is slow. But I did it and have a faster laptop (just as a spare, not for daily work).

I still have a working 98SE (Gateway) + 1 home built, XP (Acer) + 1 home built and Vista system (Gateway laptop). I keep them for only a few reasons
    1. I can still play my old flight sim along with a couple of older games that I liked
    2. Because of certain programs or software that is still useful that I liked and no longer available.
    3. Kinda kept as museum pieces and they are never used connected to online.
Some are stripped for useable parts and possible rebuilds for whatever I might want to create, such as an alternate operating system, NAS, drive storage.
Other than that when something is too old ( Pentium era or older) it pretty much becomes recyclable waste.
You are correct with if your system is too old don't invest too much money into it, just get a newer system when able to do so. Parts are getting hard to come by for these older systems.
    Great video Brian!

Great way of giving an ageing laptop a computational boost.
Which is an excellent alternative, when considering the massive amount of e-waste inundating our world today.
IMHO, keeping our devices functioning for as longer as they can, is better for everyone.

I just finished doing this type of project to an old Dell Latitude E6410 to try to squeeze a couple more years out of it. While you're at it you can also blow any dust out of the cpu cooling fan, and maybe even reapply new thermal paste (if you decide to just keep the same processor). Hoping to make it last for the remaining support life of Windows 10.

Adding more memory and an SSD is always a good idea but for a very basic internet machine installing Chrome OS Flex (if it works, test from USB before install) would make it even faster than Windows, more secure and less maintenance would be required for the end user. How about how to speed up a lap top when you can't afford to add or upgrade anything! Take for example like a cheap HP notebook 15 an do a benchmark, then optimize it manually an then take another benchmark so we can see the performance difference!

Do you use Windows? If your machine is very old (2014 or earlier), I recommend buying a new PC or making hardware upgrades. If your machine is relatively newer (from 2015 onwards), the slowness may be easily explained by low-performance components, and the only solution is to upgrade the hardware. Now, if you have a low-performance laptop (like me) and cannot afford a new PC, I suggest switching to a Linux version optimized for low-performance devices.

It would make much more sense to simply clone the Hard Drive to the SSD, rather than reinstalling Windows, then having to re-download all . Also, many older computers are limited to the capacity of RAM you can install.
I recently cloned and installed an SSD into a 12 year old desktop PC. Start-up is MUCH faster and it was a worthwhile upgrade. Unfortunately, 4 GM RAM is installed, and it won't support more RAM. Nevertheless, it does what iI want it to do - WiFi streaming videos into my flat panel TV.
