I ride my 2020 850 in Revelstoke BC. This sled handles 4ft of powder with no issues. I can ride in the mountains or the trails....it is absolutely the best versatile sled on the market. Plus it tows like a beast. People are always looking at this sled in the mountains and it's funny because you wonder what they are thinking in a sea of Summits and Polaris mountain sleds. The only draw back is you cannot do major steep verticals but I have no interest in doing it.....however the vertical slopes I take on would probably be considered to steep for normal flatlanders. Great Sled!!!
I’ve put my 850 Extreme in over 4ft of powder. Jumped it off a bank, stopped it, went forward and in reverse a couple times to sink it in. Barely had to touch the throttle and it climbed right out like nothing.
Bought 2022 Expedition 600R E-TEC last spring. It gets up and dangles. I can't imagine the 850 or 900 ACE Turbo. Oh, that snow never really did make here a couple weeks ago...got out twice and not itching anymore but twitching...aaarrrgghhhh.
I'm not a skidoo guy but will freely admit that for me it's the absolute best machine on the market right now. In a world of unlimited funds I'd have it and a ton of linq stuff attached to it.
I just watched a video from some Russian mountain group,we ain't 💩 here in north America!! These guys travel through mountains with 8 feet of snow! Nuts....
A friend told me he bought one and was ging on about it. I never even considered it util he said he loved it even on the trials. So I have been watching youtube videos and everyone who has one or does a review is gong on and on about it. My friend must have mentioned it since I was telling him how bad my sleds are on gas. He said he is never looking for fuel. His 850 SE expedition 2023 is great on fuel! So it's now very much on my radar!
I spring ordered this exact sled and just took it for a ride today. The power is unbelievable and I really had to hold on! Wow! Not used to anything like it and am comfortable saying it's a little different than riding my 2013 Tundra LT with a 600 ACE.

Have a 2022 model and since 2010 I’ve been riding summit and freedrides(154’s) in Northern Newfoundland. The majority of my riding is in the backcountry, breaking trails in the long range mountains. Can it go where a mountain sled can go, no but it puts up one hell of a fight. Only thing I’m going to change on mine is upgrading my track, same as the Lynx Xterrian Brutal with the 2.5 inch lug.
The 850 xtreme was your sled of the year a couple years back, and I believe it was also another snowmobile magazines sled of the year for the same season. I bought the 850 and it is the ultimate everything sled. It works hard, takes the lead on trail rides, climbs and plays in the Rockies. If you had to pick a one sled Arsenal you just need to decide 2-stroke 850 etec or 4-stroke 900 turbo R.
I bought the 850 version of this sled last March and I think it's gonna live up to my expectations. I love speed and power but need utility and practicality. Towing ice fishing shacks, excursions too far off places, low snow or above freezing conditions etc.
Just picked up the 2024 Expedition SE 900 Turbo R. Pretty much the same sled, with the exception of shock package. Can’t wait to ride. Coming from a 2019 Freeride 146.
This is what I should have bought rather than a Expedition LE 900 ACE. I don't hunt, cut wood, have cabin and such. This Xtreme model would have been the perfect machine to still have a little fun and lift the front end up a bit on a drift or two. We don't have groomed trails in central Labrador anymore so the 20" wide is attractive. But still want the fun factor and not a full on "dad mobile with the fur hat' haha. Great video, Luke!
Great video as always! I wish this was available last year. I bought a new Renegade X, with the 900 turbo R, and absolutely love it, but I looked hard at the Expedition Extreme. I didn’t want to go back to a two stroke. I’m glad they stepped up to the 900 in this model. I usually trade every three years, and this will definitely be my next ride! Thanks for the great information as always!
Finally picked up my 2023 expedition se , finally ! Now there is no snow here in New York! Waiting patiently, ! Impressive looking sled ! Thanks for the great videos
It is great you did this report. However, we would like to see 90% of the video focusing on the sled, and maybe 10% on the host. You literally could continuously circle the sled with the camera while talking. Also, next time you set up, notice how having the sun in front of the object makes the video easier to watch. Better yet, choose a semi-cloudy day. Worst case is having the bright sun facing the camera, with the sled in between. Keep at it, eventually you will understand these basic concepts.
Great walk around Luke. I have the 2020 850 and absolutely love it. Great upgrade from my 600 backcountry for both on and off trail. Question: if you had to pick would you go 850 or 900 turbo?
You definitely make me want to buy one. It wiil be interesting to see that model in the G5 config. Luke give my regards to your father, i have not talked to him in many years.
Thank you for sharing. The Expedition and the Grand Tour models get very little press time. I’m assuming largely in part to lower market share and price. I hope to buy one of the above this coming year to replace my aging models. My friends refer to them as my sofa’s yet are amazed at their capabilities, no credit to my skill.
U guys gotta take this thing off trail and do a video of of it driving around stuck renegades! Lol definitely a cool sled, a couple performance upgrades it would be so much fun showing up all your buddies on there Mach’s and sidewinders… 😂
The fact the ST crew hasn’t put together a shootout or comparo sport utility vid is surprising at this point. Mind you I find the expedition in its own class. Between the titan expedition, Norseman/transporter would make a good utility/trail/off trail comparison. As I’m patiently awaiting a 49 ranger in North America.. I forgot the voyager also. With or without the new S4! Exciting times in this industry it’s amazing. Something for everyone :)
I bet!! Locking down all of them particular units for a comparison , I imagine is easier said then done. Would love to see this segment of machines have a shoot out
Id imagine it's for the ice fisherman. What's the cooling like? Would it pull ice houses on low snow without beating up the machine too bad? Maby a future episode? Compare brands ability to tow on different conditions
Guys around here haul big ol' bob sleighs with 8, 10 and 12 ft logs. Put 2 pelican sleighs together and haul firewood...yes, it will haul a ice shed, easily. Edit: it's a work horse, I have one with a 600R E-TEC. It pulls.
I've got a '19 SWT with the 900 ace non-turbo. It has no problem hauling logs. They have cooling fans. A set of ice scratchers would help keep the suspension slides from sticking at higher speeds on hard frozen trails.
You can get a swt with the same engine, its crazy would love to see an overview and your opinion on those because where I live everyone is dropping mountain sleds for swts with the 900 turbo r!
I have a gen 4 900ace na expedition, and a pro rmk. The crossover segment, for me, is the extreme / titan. I'd replace both my sleds with an extreme. Not ideal for, jumping , although it's been done!
Sounds like my 2019 Polaris Titan XC with more power. Personally and for my needs I love the 20” wide track. Off trail riding is a fearless event without the worry of getting stuck. Couldn’t get an expedition extreme when I bought the Titan.
It's incredible that the core engine is the same as my 90HP Seadoo Spark and the Skidoo is making double that with the same block! I'd love to know what exactly the differences are, obviously the turbo and the ecu tune... but does it have different pistons? Rods? Cams? Maybe a reinforced crank? or is the 900 ACE platform just that overbuilt?
This isn't Luke, but pretty sure he's not crapping on the 4-stroke. He just loves 2-stroke sleds the most. That 4-stroke engine is a beast. I'll see if I can get him to chime in on this thread though.
Great video. Ridden an older expedition. Great sled for off trail. Can’t say I ever thought it could use a turbo though. I do like the rear rack. I agree that should be on the renegade. A turbo engine can make up for the elevation by increasing boost which increases air/fuel density to sea-level levels. I don't recall how Skidoo tuned the 900 turbo and if it can run enough boost to fully make up for the losses, but if it can, that 15hp spread at sea level becomes a 64hp spread at 10,000 feet. That being said, I still prefer the 2-stroke over the 4-stroke.
