I wasn't very clear about the electrical locker - a lot of people are asking about venting! These HATCHES will be water- and air-tight, but the locker itself is vented with openings in the underside to draw cool air from the bilge and extraction fans in the back that blow it into the engine room. The batteries all have temperature regulation built-in and will limit themselves or even shut down if they get too hot. These are LiFePO4 batteries which do not off-gas and are far more stable than Li-Ion batteries. Location - yes, it's not the perfect place, but the batteries are heavy enough that they should be low and centred. As with every single thing on any boat, it's a compromise, and that's why I'm going to be putting in a lot of effort to make sure the hatches are fully watertight. I'm very pleased with their location in terms of how effectively this space is used and weight distribution.
Thank you for the educational reply. I boat experience was taking the rusty mortar box to the creek and trying to use as a boat. . It sank . But I managed to get it out of the water. On my way home a guy stopped and wanted to know if I wanted to sell the mortar box . I got a ride home but dad would not sell him the mortar box.

Beautiful work on that cockpit, Clifton, it is absolutely stunning!! The hatches and hatchways for the sparks box look fantastic, and the fit on those tanks, I have to say, is just remarkable. A credit to all your planning, drawing and pattern work, and my compliments to the fabricator, those tanks are ART. Now there is a man who takes enormous pride in his work! As usual, another beautifully filmed, edited and produced video, Leo, your skills improve every episode! GO TEAM!!!
It's been a long road since Brookings , Ore . The intro is always so amazing to recall the sad shape Tally ho was in when you rescued her . great job Leo & crew .
The cockpit drop in is stunning. I like the covers over the electronics, the wood work for the main crossbeam was stunning. I really wish you had left them unpainted, but varnished, but that's me. The amount of work that is going into this boat is amazing, as well as the quality of the work. I saw the Kitsap Transit catamaran being put back into the water. Thank you for showing that. While I don't live in Kitsap County any more, I did ride that a couple of times, but I thought she had been removed from service. Nice to see her back in the water.
Kind of cool how in the end Leo will be a millionaire on paper through donations. Well deserved. He can "loft the lines" with design, woodwork, edit videos, and is a great 'host" of sorts. This is better than anything I have ever watched on tv. History is being made here before our eyes, preserved forever in the digital stratosphere, and then to be physically manifested sailing about the globe. Some people will just see a boat with the other boats....but WE KNOW.
Yes, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. But this boat has the proven provenance and the complete video record of its rebuild. It could easily be worth a million dollars/pounds. My question to Leo would be “What are you going to do with the rest of your life?” Do you just want to sail? In that case he has the skills now to make videos and narrate them. He could probably do a deal with a TV company to distribute them. Although they may make stupid production demands, like installing a stupid crew member that everyone hates! Alternatively, he could (I think should) progress the Sampson Boat Company to build/restore quality boats. He now has the contacts, and that will last a lifetime. Anyway, his choice. Personally, I think he just wants to sail….
This man just used the tiniest handplane I have ever seen to clean up a dado, then used a battery router as a sanding block in the same minute of footage. This is the best show on RUclips.
Nowadays when I do wood working I ask myself is this worthy of Tally Ho's standards? It's a total joy and very satisfying to see EVERYTHING done right with great craftsmanship.
It's great seeing those fuel tanks installed Leo! Exacting & beautiful work by you & the crew! As an ongoing supporter of this amazing project, I would urge anyone watching to consider making a donation. Thank you! 👍👍
Good to see the diesel tanks and cockpit placed! Your craftsmanship continues to amaze me! I often wonder what it was like for my ancestors in Holland as they built sailboats to travel to the Americas.
Only 18 mins :( Why Leo why . Getting up Sunday here in Australia and watching you build this boat makes me smile . The work that has been put into every part of the boat is 2nd to non. Can't wait to you sail the old girl. Please longer videos :)
With characteristic attention to detail Leo's electrical locker is beautifully made - the purple heart cross beam joint was perfection. Great that the tanks fit so neatly too as does the amazingly engineered cockpit tub. Great work guys!!
Seeing you sit on Tally Ho and pretend to steer made it so real for me. Patrick is one of those naturally funny people he is a very good craftsman but is also so much more. Clifton you are a beast you are a true master craftsman.
Yes, Leo, do a deep dive into the electrical system. Heck, do deep dives into all systems. It's exciting seeing the tanks go in. Getting close, now. Only two years to go!
I believe you are building the coolest, most beautiful boat in the whole wide world. The skill, craftmanship, knowledge, leadership, time, and I could go on forever. I am privileged to have watched this project unfold. Everyone who has touched or helped this project should be proud. Leo, your leadership and hard work has brought about something special. My thanks.
Such progress. Its going to be depressing in a way when this journey is over. Being 52 I hope to see this vessel sometime when I am retired, I will travel to see it or perhaps it will be in port in NY where I live. I long to see her in person and maybe even touch, or dare I say take a ride on her in person...It brings me wonderment and joy to watch, and I have been watching, since the first episode somehow popped into my feed. I'm a carpenter by trade, with my own wood shop. I drool over all of tis, from the woods used, to the heavy machinery. I work for the county where I live so we also have some nice stuff, (but I also have my own).
In this day and age, laser scanning an area as a prelude to producing a CAD file of the tank design is relatively easy. However, to actually produce the tank, to the exact dimensions, with all the correct angles, with correctly positioned internal baffles and perfect welds throughout - that is an unbelievable skill. Those tanks are truly a work of art!
One of the things among many, which have impressed me about the Tally Ho project is the amount and quality of the machinery which appears to be available. I am a humble householder, admittedly very different situation. However like most householders there can be a multitude of tasks which need a good selection of hand tools and power tools. The cost of Leo's professional inventory must be eye watering. Particularly for a one off project.
The yacht is going to be finished and the collection of videos will continue generating interest and revenue for decades. I’m amazed at how the audience has grown since the project began. It’ll be awesome seeing Leo out piloting Tally Ho on various adventures with, what I expect to be, an ever expanding audience. Great job 👏
Lauren, you ROCK! - Those tanks are show-pieces for aluminium welding. They are a fitting match for the standards of workmanship on the rest of the boat. To make these on you own time is a huge contribution to the project. Thank you!
I believe the Pacific Northwest has a long history of aluminum boat and airplane building. It's an art form for sure, but one that is more common than you might expect compared to other parts of the country and world.
I forget his name, but he contacted Leo to volunteer, and the business he worked for let him use their shop. Good people doing good work create good Karma.
@@edwardschmitt5710 You misunderstood my comment. My point was that this skill is more common in some areas like the PNW than others. That doesn't make it any less impressive.
Driven by your yard many times over the year when visiting Port Townsend and it's always tempting to want to drive by (not stop or get out) and see if I can spot any of the crew or a glimpse of Tally Ho :) I don't because you've kindly asked for no visitors and I don't want to clog up the boat yard with tourists. Excited for you all!
The quality of those aluminum tanks was the best I have seen and thats my trade,it matches the quality of the Tally ho,I have been watching since day one and i look forward to this each week and i am so impressed at the workmanship,I ised to be ridiculed for my jig making but my work was always excellent too.
Leo this is probably my favorite channel the work is nothing but perfect I am impressed with every episode you are a great builder but also a great filmmaker. The crew is funny and the home made commercials are funny. You and your crew are genuine and it comes through on film. Thank you for another great video please keep up asking "so what are you up to" to the crew.
Such big steps! The finality of bolting in the tanks, hiding bits of the hull for “a long time” seemed to hit home: imagining the long life still to come for this fine boat. And that smile when sitting in the beautiful cockpit, at the helm, was such a sweet moment to share, thank you!
I was in Port Townsend two years ago. Such a special spot. As a carpenter for fifty years I enjoy listening to your language. It is so different than the terms I use as a house carpenter. The main thing I love about your videos is you have to come up with designs to solve unique problems. For me it is what inspires me to keep working. Every new project has some kind of difficulty that we need to design a solution for. Love how your tanks fit. If it was me I would have made jigs and tried to come up with the design, then compare the old method with a cad solution.

I just finished watching this from the beginning, it took a number of weeks watching over 140 episodes and it's an amazing build. I hope all the wonderful assistants will get some time out on the water experiencing the fruit of their labour. I have to say I miss Pete, he went from very shy to very much an interesting character, so many of your crew have incredible woodworking skills (yourself included obviously). The sad part is I just discovered the first Sydney harbour hydrofoil is sitting on a farm north of Sydney for many years, I want to go buy it and start my own build, but I guarantee my wife would make me go live in it somewhere instead! that and the fact my back yard is 2 metres too short to fit it. Can't wait to see Tally Ho on the water! I hope when finished Tally Ho will make a Sydney visit, would love to come to an open day for it. Cheers from an Australian fan!

A credit to all your planning, drawing and pattern work, and my compliments to the fabricator, those tanks are ART. Now there is a man who takes enormous pride in his work! As usual, another beautifully filmed, edited and produced video, Leo, your skills improve every episode! GO TEAM!!!
Great to see the diesel tanks installed. Nice work once again by all the craftsmen working on the Tally Ho.
"In there like swimwear " classic ! Love the deep deep Tuba in dat music Leo .
This boat will be worth millions of dollars!
Shout out to the mini mini plane!
Thank you! 👍👍
Bravo Steve - exactly. Totally worth it.
Good to see the diesel tanks and cockpit placed! Your craftsmanship continues to amaze me! I often wonder what it was like for my ancestors in Holland as they built sailboats to travel to the Americas.
0:50 that wiring around routing is SUPER elegant!
Only 18 mins :( Why Leo why . Getting up Sunday here in Australia and watching you build this boat makes me smile .
The work that has been put into every part of the boat is 2nd to non. Can't wait to you sail the old girl.
Please longer videos :)
I think that's the first time I have seen a violin makers Finger Plane used on a sailing vessel.
Hey, I just bought 2 days ago my first ever yacht !!!
Mostly thanks to you guys for giving me that love of the nautical. Cheers
She's looking so wonderful Leo, can't wait to see her launched and ready for sea trials and then see her in a British port.
#tallyho
I think this would be the one and only channel where I would willingly watch a video about electrical systems. Nice router sander 😆
With characteristic attention to detail Leo's electrical locker is beautifully made - the purple heart cross beam joint was perfection. Great that the tanks fit so neatly too as does the amazingly engineered cockpit tub. Great work guys!!
Amazing work, per usual. It’s been an exciting journey all the way along, but man, you’re really spiking the excitement gauge for me!
I never get tired of watching the craftsmanship around the boat or the spectacular film footage around the boatyard! DD
The guy installing the electrical system sat and explained the entire system already. Back several videos.
Loved the “Leo’s jig. Don’t bin” 😊
Nice to see Leo getting to do some woodwork himself. He and the rest are very impressive artisans.
I just added more to the funding because I want to see it sail before I die of old age. Superb wood work AND fabrication !
The improvement of your cinematography throughout the series has not gone unnoticed. The quality of these videos overall just continue to amaze
The woodwork these guys do never ceases to amaze me. These vids are so short!!! Love this!!!
Thank you!
Tank fabricator is incredible its pure art you really got lucky finding this skillful individual
@@muchmuchmore "no big deal lots of people can weld aluminum in such great detail....NOT. Aluminum is one of the hardest to weld.
@@edwardschmitt5710 You misunderstood my comment. My point was that this skill is more common in some areas like the PNW than others. That doesn't make it any less impressive.
A deep dive on the elec-trickery setup would be awesome!
Nothing but top notch craftsmanship by all involved.
we have to have a few years at the least of the journeys Tally Ho takes afternthe years of following her rebirthing
Coming up on 6 years. I hope I live long enough to see Tally Ho launch.
I've never loved you more then when
i saw that PBR !!!!
Patrick's technical jargon has elevated! Great job on the tanks install.
in a sad world of mass production that we soooo take for granted - we really miss the wonderful world of craftmanship, the love that goes into building bespoke objects, pure craftsmanship - isn't it a joy to watch on a channel like this
i'm not into boats or sailing, not even really into woodwork and joinery, but i really appreciate what goes into things
love this channel - well done Leo
Been watching since day 1 Leo! Hope she ends up in Newport, RI some day :)
Wow, the welds on those tanks are just beautiful 👌🏼
Leo, you are working in a precision with hand tools on wood that other people only can archived with million dollar CNC machines on Metall. Amazing!
I love seeing all the precision woodworking, and all the jigs that make it seem so effortless
Hope you get 500,000 subscribers before launch date! She is looking really swell lads and gals!
Awesome video update! Favorite moment: Leo dreaming of a gin & tonic while manning the tiller! Beautiful work; so honored to be one of many longtime loyal subscribers, including people who help support this project via Patreon. I feel so lucky to greet every-other-Saturday with anticipation: ‘What have you been doing, _______?’
At this stage everything done seems like an actual step towards a functional ship, and the shots from the yard and harbour reminds me of the day Tally Ho is going in.
That tiny plane! Come on… you had to be so excited to have the perfect little tool for that job!
Amazing work.. Pat.. You are the man bro! So glad you are part of this. Peace to you all Rolfie
Those tanks are a work of art, beautiful welds, perfect reinforcements and, even the stainless steel helicoyd in the threads, a drool.
💪 From Italy
Hi Leo, your work inspired me to book a vacancy in Port Townsend during the next Wooden Boat Festival. Hope to see Tally Ho there, so dont hurry too much!
