So under the hood "isolate" is applying both "position: relative;" and "z-index: 0;" ? If so then I'm assuming it's important to specify "isolate" first, that way you could still set a different z-index later?

Nope! Under the hood it is applying `isolation: isolate` 👍🏻 developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/isolation
