The 4 strokes popularity is fairly new ... I’m working on my 140 2 stroke with a prop myself ... the jets have there pros and cons ... one Immediate con is they are not as fuel efficient as a prop ...
As the guy said, these have been around forever. Kawasaki started changing to four stroke engines on some models in the 70's. Jet Skis haven't been two stroke since 2003

Like you said Tom no propeller. The force of the water coming out simply pushes the boat along. Of course the water also cools the motor.

A lot of river guys like them on there jon boats for shallow water catfish the rivers here we sold a lot of them in Indiana
