Harley Benton BS-20 Metal Demo

  • I did not see many demos of this guitar on RUclips (especially in the mix) so I decided to make one since I own one of those.
    This is a ~100 euro Son of Beast copy from Harley Benton which I bought with modding intentions. In the video it is completely stock except for black volume and tone knobs, nothing which would affect the tone.
    To put things short - it is insane how much a 100EUR guitar can offer. This model has a basswood body, maple neck (C profile, very chunky but still comfortable), amaranthe fretboard fitted with 24 medium frets, tune-o-matic style bridge and HighGain unnamed pickups. Straight out of the box it needed a little fret polish and general setup. Currently I have it set to D Standard with 10-52 D'addario Nickel Wound strings. I can't really say anything bad about this guitar when you consider the price. It has everything you would need in terms of playability and most important of all - this thing inspires. I have trouble putting it down once I start playing.
    This demo is just a bunch of riffs and some uninspired leads + a bit of camera audio clean demo at the end. Got a little 'camera-nervous' but it is what it is, I hope you'll enjoy it!

    I bought the guitar and I really like it. The only thing I didn't like about the guitar is the headstock. So I swapped the neck of the guitar for an original B.C. Rich neck from a Beast, which fits perfectly. Now the headstock looks at least good.

    • @_fifeusz
      @_fifeusz  Год назад +2

      That's a mod that I had in my mind initially when I got the guitar, but I got used to the headstock and especially the chunkier neck profile. In the end I went as far as replacing the frets recently with the biggest I could get my hands on.

    • @floydhendrix4399
      @floydhendrix4399 Год назад +1

      @@_fifeusz So the neck, the frets, the neck profile on mine was exactly like the Beast. The only difference was the headstock. At first I thought I could get used to this stupid headstock over time, but that wasn't the case. And so I made the decision, just because of the headstock, to swap the neck. The BS20BK now looks like a real Beast from the Bronze series. And if you want to change that, the neck of the original Beast and the Warlock from the Bronze series fit 100%. I think your idea with the black knobs and the black hardware, in the upgrade video is so good that I might adopt it too.

    I'm thinking about buying this and upgrading the components. Would you say this guitar can be picked up to a professional level with upgrades? Or is it not worth or unable to bring up?
    And if it is worth it, what upgrades in it would you say are necessary to bring this to the professional world and what else would you recommend?

    • @_fifeusz
      @_fifeusz  2 года назад +3

      It is very much possible to bring it up to a high standard. The only thing that would require a later upgrade are the frets.
      As to the upgrades which would be necessary:
      - bridge
      - pickups and electronics
      - nut
      So pretty much everything except for the tuners (depends on your string winding technique, the stock ones are not bad). I have an updated video where I have all the upgrades in place.
      Even with everything upgraded - I think that it's worth it. The only real requirement is to get the initial guitar in good shape out of the box.

    So I bought my first guitar 2 months ago and I’m planning to get this one for my birthday this year bc it looks super cool ,it’s super cheap and I love. To play rock metal … so I just wanted to ask if it is wort buying it

    • @_fifeusz
      @_fifeusz  Год назад +2

      In my opinion it is worth it, it can be a bit of a lottery in terms of quality control as it is a cheaper guitar but Thomann has a very friendly return policy. Once you get it set up to your liking it plays very well and, at least for me, is very inspiring.
      You have to be aware that the neck may be a bit on the chunkier side.

  • @sonysoni5079

    Hi. Thanks for the great demo. I have one question, how's the neck profile of those Hartley Benton, are they slim like Ibanez or Jackson? Do you find Harley Benton BS-20 neck to be comfortable, speedy, quick playable neck? Would this be comparable with something like Jackson JS22 or JS32 series of guitars, or something like Ibanez GRGR 131EX-BKF. I am in search for affordable every day guitar, that I'm not going to baby that much, but that is still nice instrument with fast playable neck. JS22 Dinky is about 2 times the price, JS32 around 3 times (Kelly, or Rhodes, or Worior). Would you rather go Jackson or Ibanez route, or this Benton would be sufficient. Have you ever had a chance to play this series of Jacksons or Ibanez?
    Sorry on my bad English.comfortable

    • @_fifeusz
      @_fifeusz  Год назад +1

      I wouldn't call this a slim neck, definitely far from Ibanez or Jackson. It is a bit of a thicker C-like profile, kind of like in Fenders. For me it is actually very comfortable - I don't like Ibanez Wizard necks. Unfortunately I can't compare to Ibanez or Jackson guitars that you mentioned.

      Hej, widziałem pytanie pod innym filmem też, ale odpowiem tutaj. Jasne, jak najbardziej polecam. Mam ją już ponad rok i nie mam z nią absolutnie żadnych problemów. W stanie sklepowym jest to naprawdę w porządku gitara na początek, ale też jest bardzo wdzięczną bazą pod modyfikacje. U siebie wymieniłem praktycznie wszystko - ale co najważniejsze to wstawiłem mostek Gotoha i pikapy ceramiczne firmy Fleor. Cenowo wyszło mnie to praktycznie tyle samo co cena gitarki.
      Z wad to jedyne co mogę wskazać po tym czasie to progi - są raczej średniego rozmiaru, a jak raz człowiek posmakuje porządnych, wysokich progów to ciężko potem się przestawić.
      Nie mniej jednak - bardzo często po nią sięgam kiedy mam chęć pograć w D/C# standard i w tym sprawdza się świetnie.
