- Amidst the pub sing-songs and bombsites and with slums giving way to high-rise flats, life in Bethnal Green is changing for the Flints. Dad may decide to quit the docks and their daughter wants a new home with her husband and expected baby. Son Ricky is dissatisfied with his lot and equally eager to get away. Involved with a planned robbery of the cigarette factory where he works, his life becomes even more complicated when he gets involved with quirky Catherine.

Mum's speech at the end is real working class philosophy - on the nature of freedom, relationships and creating a sense of meaning. Great stuff!
More than an entertaining story, these kinds of movies provide a time capsule and glimpse into a culturally important time of the 20th century. Lots of changes were going on.
Blimey ! I enjoyed this very very much ! What a great script & cast. Not only entertaining but quite heartwarming ! I love these lesser known early 60s British dramas about the working class. Thank you VERY much for uploading for us to enjoy ! CHEERS !! 🙂
Roy Kinnear was so great. What a loss to the world that he died so young. He would be extraordinarily proud of his son, Rory, I think.
Very good story and fine acting from the dependable Rita T. And good evocation of late 50s/early 60s London.
I am loving these Bryanston films, I didn't know anything about this Production Company till yesterday when I watched Dilemma, 1962 on your channel! Thank you so much for posting, they are really wonderful!
SLUM CLEARANCE FOR FUTURE SLUM CLEARANCE.I LOVE THESE OLD FILMS.ALWAYS REMINDS ME OF BEING A KID.
Yes they tore down the old homes to put them in project towers which would be placed in project towers.
Rita Tushingham in yet another "Kitchen Sink" drama. I love them.
I just recently watched "The Leather Boys" another movie in this genre. Brings back memories of growing up in England in the 1960s. I'm an ex-pat living in California now . . .
This channel just gets better and better!
Pretty good "slice of life" movie. Mike Sarne (Ricky) had a # 1 UK hit record in 1962, with Wendy Richard (yes... that Wendy Richard); the song was "Come Outside" and can be found on RUclips. Thanks for posting such a nice variety of interesting films.
Proper old East end. I would rather have all that again than anything you can get today.
Yes. And I would rather have Micky Mantle than all the high-priced crybabies of today.
That fight scene at the end is hilarious! When the old man smacked that woman's bottom I was crying with laughter.
You show great movies! Thank you!
lucky smith your welcome ilike to up load from canada
Rita T!
I've always loved her! Those eyes of her's are something else. Loved her in The Knack!
Another highly entertaining slice of life drama from the early 60s in the UK. Innit?
Humour, music, violence, love, theft and nitty gritty family stuck in 'ya ma's house' wiv chips an egg for tea. Excellent 50's little known classic.
Flick Vault you served up another brilliant 'Flick' 👍
Except it’s a 60s flick, lol.
Never heard of kitchen sink dramas until a friend ( Jenny ) explained them to me after watching a taste of honey , really enjoyed watching them so many thanks for downloading
Mike Sarne, playing Ricky Flint, had a 1960s UK No.1 pop song - Come Outside,(with Wendy Richards)
Wow…… that transported me back in time!
A great movie showing humour and innocence of youth at the time. A year before Britain led the world in fashion and music with the rise of the Beatles!
That funny faced looking girlfriend of Ricky! I looked and looked at her and was smitten by a sense of strong familiarity. I was like "Now I've seen that face before! But where? Where where where!?!?"
Nearly racked my brains trying to remember while watching the beginning of this flick. Then it struck me where!
That Omar Sharif and Julie Christy flick, Dr. Zhivago!!! She played that Soviet power plant laborer, Zhivago's daughter!!! Those very wide opened eyes of her! Can never forget that!
A beautiful English rose Rita
Uncredited role for Yootha Joyce at 45:59.
Another cover star from The Smiths' albums ☺
Bernard Lee who played the father of this family drama is best remembered as "M" in the early Bond films. He was an actor who could switch with ease from working class to "toff" roles. This is very much a lost film and one of the least known of the Dearden-Relph partnership. It gives a good idea of the largely white community of Bethnal Green, East London, in the early 1960s as working class districts were ripped apart and families resettled in high rises. Dearden and Relphn also gave us "Victim" with Dirk Bogarde, the first British picture to show some sympathy for homosexuals.
You are very knowledgeable Sir :)
Thank you Mr. Wright for the information on Mr. Bernard Lee
Truly a very versatile actor....Lovely old black and white film. Many thanks. Greeting from the Philippines.
My favourite role of his was Sgt. Paine in "The Third Man". Mainly because it's my favourite movie...
This film is an incredible time capsule, as are (all movies to some extent) many of the gritty 'realist' /kitchen-sink dramas of the 1960s. I found this film after rewatching A Taste of Honey last night, another time capsule of Manchester and Blackpool, from 1961.
34:13 George Sewell is the bird seller.
Another British film good cast
American here. Good film, but I could scarcely understand a word. Hooray for subtitles!
You are going to tell me that the Yankees speak better English than the ENGLISH.?
loved this movie,few small roles,noticed rita webb,yootha joyce,in the wash house,any others?
The great character actress Rita Webb, also in the laundry with a speaking part.
Doris Hare,On the buses.
The ever excellent Roy Kinnear as Mike Sarne's grumpy foreman.
Excellent film. Thank you.

brilliant
Ricky goes on to direct Myra Breckenridge. It went about as well as the failed heist.
Recommended heartily👍🏻
I've always found RITA TUSHINGHAM slightly disturbing in some of her movies..it dosnt mean i dont like her..she must be good to have such an effect on me😮...
Mackey Sarne also directed Myra Brecki nridge with Mae West
Nice brit crime!!!
This movie just didn't float my boat.
Rather dreary and overly "chatty".
I don't think it was a success when it came out and, after watching it, I can see why.
I love this channel and watch it all the time. Please keep up your excellent (and greatly appreciated) efforts. I hope my constructive criticism of the films isn't interpreted as ingratitude.
on tower hill out side the tower london there was a strongarm man did that got out of chains saw him as a kid
Yeah I remember him. There were actually two of em worked together up on the raised pavement bit at the side.
Michael sarne was a hottie here.
7:27 Bit part for Barbara Windsor?
That’s not her...
Mike Sarn,,pop singer,,👏🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
mike is handsome here?
1:21:30 - why is Simon Cowell grabbing Rita T?
,.
Winnie Wallace.....Poor acting and overall a terrible film.
What a terrible film. Fit only for compulsory viewing to be shown to the authorities who run our country for the criminal disruption they cause to peoples lives. How watching the unfortunate low life end of life can be considered entertainment I can't imagine.
