I owned a 987 RS60 Spyder for 6 years. Engline imploded. Tracking gets easily knocked out and they drive like on ice. EVERYTHING fails on them. Decent weekend toys, but overrated and not that great to drive. I currently have a 2018 Abarth 124 Spider and it is in a different league to drive, maintain, except for the bonnet badge.
Incredible car, incredible video MF. 987 Spyder has really flown under the radar, but is emerging as a true classic. Mid-levels of horsepower means you need to drive it harder, and the chassis delivers so much when you do. And frankly, that’s what makes the car so damn fun.
987 Spyder is best of them all, beautiful hydraulic steering, manual if optioned, 1275kg and its smaller dimensions make it so easy to place and hustle along on UK b roads.
I‘ve got a 987.1 S since 2009 and I still enjoy it, although I drive 600hp cars at work every day. I just enjoy starting the car, driving away without clicking 5 popups on the screen. I don‘t need systems that control my ride. The new Porsche 718 are better cars for sure, but I don‘t like touchscreens and digital rev counters and other instruments.
Actually the 987 Gen 2 Spyder or the Gen 2 Boxsters/Caymans were the first to get the PDK. Most 987.2 Spyder owners optioned the PDK at the time which is a pity as the MT box is so much engaging to drive. I own one with an MT.
10 years ago I would agree manual is the way to go. Today, with the amount of traffic, PDK is the way to go. It's Fast on the paddles yet easy in traffic (UK Roads). As for the Roof, some people need an education on the difference between a convertible and a Spyder. IMO the 987 is the best version of the Spyder and is as Porsche intended it to be, without outside/market insurance.
Know(n) a few 987 spyder owners . They all love them . At around £45k, absolute sports car bargain. Relatively rare , decent performance. Given the folding carbon buckets are £8k USED 😱. Definitely worth seeking out that spec
For me, best part of 987 spyder is that roof. It’s unbelievably convenient if you can just take off the weather shield at the back. It’s the best driving mode for extremely hot or cold weather. I’ve heard a few people put 987 spyder in direct comparison with gt3, would you let us know more about the similarity and difference between these 2 cars?
Thank you for that super review. The fact that you have experienced the later two versions really adds something credible. I have the same opinion regarding this being the best sports car I have ever driven. Thank you again & Bravo...
Always nice to see your "backyard" in a video. Welcome to BC! I take my 1989 944 S2 up and down the sea-to-sky on a regular basis. It's a truly beautiful bit of road though the traffic can be heavy. If you head north of Whistler and then beyond Pemberton, there are some great twisty mountain roads though likely to be snowy this time of year.
Beautiful car mark , Definitely a car Worh buying now as a keeper I can only see these going up in value over next 10 years , they just don’t make cars like this anymore , a real driver fun machine…
As an owner for a few years, I have said to many I'd never sell it after 5 minutes. Mine is pretty stock 6M, LWB's, Short Shift, no A/C, and not even PSE which I probably would've enjoyed even though stock exhaust note is great. Just like the 981 with the "best sound" and 718's with so much power, I don't drive "sound" and there is such a thing as horsepower driveability. What is huge HP good for if you cannot use most of it?
‘One of the best sports cars you’ve ever driven’ - high praise indeed given your garage and driving cars repertoire! You have owned (or driven) each Spyder and now have the 718… Given one to keep which would it be? I loved the 981… The sound was incredible… Owned 4 years Then had the 718 (3 years) - was a better drive, faster, but sounded absolute rubbish (until I put a jcr on it). Still didn’t quite match the 981 sound though. Never driven the 987… So is the 987 Spyder the one to have??? (Maybe with an exhaust upgrade?)
@@888mf4 sure, I get that, but PDK was indeed an option on the 987 Spyder. Like with the Cayman R, PDK ones tend to hang around longer so it’s not like it would be impossible to find…in fact across PH and AT there are three PDK 987 Spyders. Therefore my comment still stands, you bought the wrong one, twice.
I have both. They are both great cars, the Porsche is a much faster car on the backroads with the torque and horsepower. S2000 is more engaging to drive fast and feels very raw.

I'm so happy ☺️ my life is totally changed. I've been earning $10,250 returns from my $4,000 Investment every 13 Day's
The 987 is last of the modern surgical blade precision cars you can buy. The drop top plus the razor sharp dynamics is one pure motoring experience
Totally agree with you Alex after driving one!
It’s not the last one, Lotus is still doing their thing

I totally agree. If you want a manual gearbox then this is one of the best sports cars for the money.

The spec of that spyder... *kisses fingers* absolutely stunning.
Great to see you in Canada! Enjoy
Thanks. I will go back for more filming at some point.
Absolutely love the 987.2 Spyder!! Wonderful Video of this gorgeous Spyder on the infamous Sea 2 Sky, Well done!! 😎👍
Thanks Michael. It’s a spectacular view. Glad you enjoyed it.

It did feel like a mini GT3.
Like I said, you're definitely in the right part of Canada to enjoy a Spyder

Fantastic place for driving and skiing!!
Thanks for the video, love this car, agree with all your points, true legend, just need a garage to put it in.
I struggle to find a garage in Central London!!
Stunning car, stunning location, great video.
Thank you!!
Great car!
It’s a lot of fun Michael if I could persuade you to get into a Porsche!!
03:32 The 987 Spyder actually came offered in PDK and manual.
Yes I know Andy. My brother had the PDK version as I mention in the video. It was awful.
@@888mf4 unlike this video. very lovely, you lovely man. lovely.
Good luck there 🙏

Totally agree. One just sold in the UK for £47000 so still a good discount compared to a 981 Spyder.

The 987 and 981 are both great. You get more feel from the 987 as it is lighter and less powerful. The roof on the 981 is better!!
@@888mf4 Yes the roof does look a-little fiddly!
Sounds a lot of fun… If you had to choose only 1 for your garage?
Waiting for drag 🏁
Nice video and a lovely car. Question tho......987 Boxster spyder or 981 GTS which do you prefer??
Is this stock exhaust or PSE? Any other engine mods?
You bought the wrong one twice. You should have bought this model

@888MF is the spyder owner of Aqua interested in selling by any chance?
What roof?
S2K is a better roadster.
