When considering the "genuine" RODE, take also a look at the "Rycote Super Blimp NTG Kit". It's a lot more compact and stylish, has a more efficient construction for easy mounting a mic and the overall performance beats the RODE one.
Tom Thank you again, I was literally Just about to get the Rode, and watched the video and Ordered this for some upcoming work. Will put it to a Production test. and Got it at the Price you mentioned. don't know why others are finding it Higher.
Hi Tom, thanks for another good review. I just found one weird looking blimp for around 100 USD: Boya BY-WS1000 Microphones Blimp Windshield Suspension System.
For me the cable thickness might be worth the change for the Mico, the one from the mic to the grip. Otherwise I'd say it is hard to verify the blowing test. I'd say your blow is further away with the mico one and it might be very different for that reason. Also the rode ones with deadcat seems a little less muffled. Hard to choose... At this moment both are around the same price, the Rode also including the dead wombat.

Hi Tom, thanks for the review! I just got a pair of used sm89s. Since they are long shotgun mics. Does Movo offers an extension rig for long ones? I'm pretty new in shotgun mic category. Maybe you can even offer a diy blimp solution ;) all best!!
Another difference is that there will be less vibration going through the cable closest to the back of the mic on the rode because of it's design. It's thinner than the Micolive Mic cable.
It’s complete trash, mine started falling apart in my second shoot just from opening the blimp to turn on and off the microphone. Not recommended at all.
As of July 2021 -- not only is the included deadcat cat dead, this entire DigitalFoto Microlive (yeah, a rather dumb name at that) Zeppelin is dead. Forgetaboutit.
Every site is $240 bucks bruh. Decreases the value of this video drastically. Odd because they have ALWAYS been $240. Might as well drop the extra $60 and get a RØDE for the warranty alone. OR do what I did and buy two (slightly) used RODE blimps for $300 (both). At $150 it's a bargain. At $240 I'd pay the extra $60. Would have rather seen a review of the AURAY boom pole. It's the best bang for buck on the market these days truth be told.
@@trueaugust1972 HAHAHAHA THAT'S WILD! I checked it 3 times today alone and it said $240. Like I said if it's $180 i'd cop it. If it's $240 i'd spend $60 more. I don't blame price shifting on @Tom but this gouge was one for the record books. I'd bet a Satoshi of Bitcoin it changes again over the next 24 hours. #CrazyTown
Plus the DigitalFoto one has the knows and clip made from metal and not plastic like on the rode. So you can say parts of it are built better than the more expensive rode version
@Zack Darce It's not. Colleague have used them before. (Perhaps the one we had) but doesn't seem to be balanced. Also RODE comes with 5-STAR shielded cabling. Looking at that cable I'd doubt this one supports that technology.
You guys do the most comprehensive video production reviews online. Great job! Cheers!
For all of my fellow indie/non union ballers on a budget, sound gear is a great deal if you buy used!

I was wondering about that one too
Yesterday I buy a Boya BY-WS 1000 for about 120 $ here in Romania and is just as good as the one in this video.
As we were watching the video (kids and me) Andrzej shouted "phoebe mama" when he saw the dead cat cover. haha!
Krisia Vaca good to know you have a Channel, I will subscribe
@@dprovisuals1890 yay! Thank you. Hope you enjoy my videos
Good information, but seeing a man blowing a dead cat is something to be shared... lol

Is it worth saving 50 bucks or so or am I better off getting the rode blimp?
Hey Tom what case do you use to hold the Zoom H5 recorder? I have the same recorder myself.
I use the proaim blimp, its amazing, and only runs $153 on amazonn.ca! No regrets!!
Thanks for the tip. Might check it out!
It’s complete trash, mine started falling apart in my second shoot just from opening the blimp to turn on and off the microphone. Not recommended at all.
Pricing for these must have changed because I am seeing the Rode blimp as a bit cheaper than DigitalFoto now??
The parts look interchangeable!
Thanks for the video!! :) What would you say is the advantage of this one versus the Movo $99 blimp, which also gets good reviews on RUclips?
It looks very profesional!
thanks a lot! is there even a cheaper way for beginners to record sounds outside please?
Are you able to recover the brightness of the audio in post?
I came for the good looking dude and the review.
what microphone you used inside the blimp?
The Amazon page uses 2 stills of you Tom.
love from Kenya
Any well known ways to fit and mount zoom h1n in it?
Yes I showed how I mount the zoom recorder using a magic arm and a clamp grip to the boom in a few videos on my website.
It seems like I can't exactly find the video. Could you please give me a link if it's not too much to ask? @@TomAntos
Even cheaper is the PROAIM blimp, shock mount & wombat wind screen for 115.00 at Amazon.
But it’s shit. I bought it and I regret it. It’s very bad quality
Crazy I got my Rode Blimp MKII for 185€ in Germany new! (210 USD)
It looks like you shot that in Tarrytown.
Exactly
good sir thank u so much

good job
No longer listed on B&H. Haha “Torturing a deadcat.”
"cheap" is not same "bad"! ;)
Sounds like it blocks more frequencies than the rode.
At this size of furry wind protection, the thing is called a "dead wombat". Decreasing in size there are also dead "cats" and "kittens".
Why not just use an electric fan or something to test it? Just my thought
Sounds to me like they let Røde pay for all the R&D and have just stole the design.
It’s 180.00 now not 240.00
Video has only been up 1 hour and the product costs $70 more than you claim in the video.
That's weird I just clicked on the Amazon link and it says $184 . Are you sure you are clicking the links I provide?
@@TomAntos I used your links. The price has been reduced since then. Seems like a good deal.
It is only $50 cheaper than the Rode one, it should be half the price to even think about it.
How is $184 USD only $50 cheaper than $300 for Rode?
@@TomAntos It was $240 yesterday for some reason.
Nice Review ut in the whole Video the sound sounds like crap...... Basicly like very low bitrate.... Why?

Just checked...$184.00 usd
@@devPunks I looked it up and it's $185.
Come on bro - $240 - I rather pay more and stick to quality but it is a nice copy
The price must have gone up. It was $180 before
They're actually both identical in build and how they perform

me too, not enough price difference to "unsupport" Rode
