ME! He always lived a healthy lifestyle and took care of himself. Didn't smoke either. He's a trumpet player and tootin' that horn takes a lot of breath and stamina.
Jack Benny always made himself the butt of all his jokes. His TV show skits show off his skills the best. He was a very generous person, and much loved by many in Hollywood, itself an accomplishment. He died within a couple of weeks of his last appearance with Johnny on the Tonight Show the year (1974) following this appearance. The whole country grieved, his funeral made the national news. Also, his humor was very ‘dry,’ he wasn’t after the guffaw, but the grin and chuckle.
It's so sad when I see this and think Jack would be dead just a year and a half later. He should have had another 20 years like his best friend George Burns.
This suit is at least of a solid color. The wide tie and lapels were the style in '73. A year later Carson wore plaid suit jackets, sometimes with matching trousers and it was sensory overload. The clothes wore him. It was just too much and !looks embarrassingly dated now, but it was in style back then.
Only difference is back then, public opinion changed with new information. Unlike today, where followers in cults of personality deny, don’t accept information and don’t change their beliefs.
Currently watching this episode. Joe had to have been f'd up as hell 🤣🤣🤣 Or aftermath of multiple head injuries. But at that time, I'm sure he was hi*h on something
" Jack Benny ... What a bore " ...?! He made consistently entertaining humour ...☺️ He wasn't a " bore" ! He was an " original " ☺️. Don't be so mean ! ☺️ 🇬🇧🦉🇬🇧💕🇺🇲🐒🌿🇬🇧
Benny was like 80 years old in this episode. And was Johnny's hero. He would die in 1974. Johnny wasn't having him on to slay the audience at this point he was having him on out of respect and admiration. The Tonight Show itself was a bore much of the time. Especially when it ran for an hour and a half, they would just sit there smoking cigarettes and muttering.
Too bad Jack is not your cup of tea.Too old school for you.Jack Benny is one of the greats of radio and Television at 80 Jack didnt have to prove how funny he could be.Without using curse words like today comedians.Miss old Jack and Johnny.
who would've thought Doc would still be alive at 97 today !
I am always shocked to hear he is still alive.

I just asked Alexa when he died and found out he's still alive. Awesome. It's all that weed.

@@user-me7tc6ev3d happy people want to live that long
Carson - still the gold standard.

2 consummate professionals Jack & Johnny. A joy to watch 👍🏻

Elke Sommer is 82 & still with us. (as of 8/25/2023.)
I didn’t appreciate Jack when I was young but now I find him to be hilarious!
@30:16 love the Mark Twain joke and his quote: “Age is a matter of mind, and if you don’t mind it doesn’t matter”.
I don't mind. Not at all. It's the fact that everyone ELSE minds! Try getting a job or a date or a relationship after you're 50!
My dogs really love Jack Benny.
Joe Namath was a smooth operator back in his day.
You look a lot younger than me. You probably don't remember him when he did the pantyhose commercial! 😂
I forgot about this commercial but it's here on YT. My God, did he get ridiculed for agreeing to do that ad. I liked his ads with Farrah best.
👌
Namath was stoned!!! LOL!
Or drunk. He was an alcoholic for quite some time.
👍
Look at Johnny's tie! It's wider than than his head.

And that tie pin

Why the hell do you post this

They did jokes about politics on late night at that time?!?! I’m shocked, I thought it was a new thing..
