  • The last UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Downhill of 2023 is here and it's at the infamous Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec, Canada venue. Riders and mechanics are gearing up for an abusive, rocky, rough track and rain is likely in the forecast for race day.

      100% agree that having some weight in the bike is a good thing. They track better, and hold a line better. And don't go pinging off rocks all over the place

    • @joshuaandress3666
      @joshuaandress3666 Год назад +1

      It's kind of the other way around honestly. Pirelli sponsors the trek team bc their in house tires usually aren't what people prefer. I'm honestly surprised to see Bontrager tires on there. Doubt it's gonna be raced like that

    • @thenewfire
      @thenewfire Год назад

      It's just a trek thing. They have enough weight as a company to get away with it. It's just cause Bontrager is Trek.

    I do the same thing with my all mountain hardtail. I intentionally have a full water bottle mounted as low and far back as possible. If I want less weight, smaller bottle. The water sloshing also tends to act like a motion damper as well.

    I got a bunch of shots of the new Demo uncovered last week at Snowshoe. Very interesting setup with the pull linkage below the BB. Also interesting that the majority of the frame aside from the carbon lugged top/down tubes is machined aluminum.

    A full 29er is going to be faster on most DH courses but not so great if there are lots of tight corners which is rare in DH courses. For enduro on the other hand, where you haven't memorised every corner and might need to make emergency turns, I'd rather have a mullet or even a 27.5.

    • @harrie205
      @harrie205 Год назад

      Not sure about 29“ being faster on most courses(there are many mullets in the World Cup just because they are fast).
      Also ist not just in the corners where the mullet shines

    • @sandy_knight
      @sandy_knight Год назад +1

      @@harrie205 Fare enough, I don't race DH so happy to stand corrected. I am curious what other benefits smaller wheel provide though other than, arguably, better manoeuvrability. Obviously if you're a smaller rider arse clearance is an issue but for a 6ft rider...?

    • @thenewfire
      @thenewfire Год назад

      @@sandy_knight Definitely a lot of value in pure 27.5s for the majority of riders.

    • @bensblues
      @bensblues Год назад

      @@sandy_knightmaybe not completely relevant but in the freeride world, one of the reasons riders avoid wheels bigger than 27.5 is because they act as a sail in the air, especially on big jumps where even a light wind is an issue.

    • @rezenclowd3
      @rezenclowd3 Год назад

      29er doesnt mean longer wheelbase..so I do not see the argument for tighter corners unless the radius of the wheel is large enough to hit a wall in a corner....

    I've heard the new Sram brakes are 6 piston. Not sure if it's true or not, but it's what I've been told from someone who saw them in Winter Park a few months ago

    • @rezenclowd3
      @rezenclowd3 Год назад +3

      Looking at it though, that would be 6 small pistons to fit in that radius....however technically pistons do not have to be circular, nor do the seals....that way you could have more piston surface area without the wasted space, however then flex is a problem, which means bottom loading, so that the upper bridge can be consistent.
