This and Jungle Strike were some of my favorite games on Genesis. Even though, at the time, I couldn't get more than 2-3 levels deep lol never stopped me from playing though
I agree. I didn't have anything to compare it to back then when I first played it as a kid. But now, replaying this game, I am always impressed with how nice the movement is.
Exact same thing happened to me too. My Dad refused to play games, he'd watch us play them and tell us we were wasting our time, Then one day we had hired out Desert Strike, since we were so young we were playing it wrong, not following the objectives and so on. Next thing we knew he had taken over the mega drive. He bought himself a copy of the game for Xmas. And I even remember him telling all his friends how good it was. It was surreal.
Ha! My old man was exactly the same. He generally didn't care much for my MegaDrive bar the Strike series, he player Desert, Jungle and Urban to death.
my pops was a fan of the series also one day my controller broke because i used to mash buttons like crazy when i played mortal kombat 3 the he bought a controller for himself and used to hide it from me :D
I was like 9 years old when I last played and seen this, now I'm 38 and it just flooded all these memories of been a kid with my megadrive & super Nintendo 😊❤️
I loved this game. Me and my friend used to play it everytime we would stay the night at each other's houses. I liked how it had objectives and you could rescue people. Well designed. This is when EA really established themselves with good games. Now they're a scumbag developer.
I lost hours to this game as a kid. My one criticism was that there was a glitch that sometimes when you lowered your winch to pick up fuel barrels when you were abiut to run out it would tell you that you'd successfully collected fuel but then you'd run out and crash.
Used to play this game as a kid at my aunts house. Honestly could never remember the name of this game. Haven’t seen this gameplay in 25 years. Thanks for the massive nostalgia!!!
I remember my father playing this game and me watching him play back when we had the sega genesis. He loved this game and I enjoyed watching him; in a way you could say it was our bonding time earlier in my life. Who knew?
Yeah I remember this game being impossible if you just wanted to have fun. If you wanted to win, you practically had to memorize the most optimal path between targets and the exact number of weapons needed to destroy things. You always ran out of fuel or ammo otherwise.
deeditmane I used to be an Army helicopter pilot, I flew OH-58D Kiowa Warriors; trained with Apaches because we had similar missions: reconnaissance and fire support. Honestly, the Apache’s rotors give off a high pitch sound and they kinda nailed it in this game.
If they made this today they'll be so much political pushback there's so much racist overtones in this that it would never see a lot of day today LOL I mean and it's sad because this is a great game but the world is so bat shit it would never be able to look past it
Loved this played it to death it was released about the same time as the real life conflict operation desert storm led by storming Norman schwarzkopf, it was the reason I bought a mega drive I was about 24 at the time and my brother thought I was being childish spending my money on a video game then after he saw this I had to lend it to him! After completing it I tried to do the levels using only the original armour and just the machine gun (HARD) And if my memory serves me correctly you didn't use fuel if you stayed over the water, I still remember the save code to the last level to this day.
I loved this game when it came out. But reading the missions now.. " We have to stop this mad man before he gets nuclear weapons" its like yeah.. we all heard that one before.
I had my Sega Mega drive in 1994 when I was 7. Parents bought it in Germany, not sure how much they spent. Games for it did cost from 5 lats to 15 lats (around 7$ - 21$). 95% of market was used before cartridges, also we had cartridge exchange and rental. Pay deposit and take game home for a month or so. The feeling was unreal, colourful design of cartridges, unforgettable scent of them and of course the games themselves. This was a true window to the Western world for me as a boy living in young, post-Soviet country of Latvia...
One of the few games in the world I can claim absolute expertise in. After all these years, I can still remember where everything in this game was .... I can play this whole game without ever losing a life.
This is just creepy. I was just thinking about this game a few days ago randomly. I never really watch gaming videos, and the last game console I owned was a PlayStation 1. Now this is in my recommend.
This game is a classic i,m playing it now with a Retrovision cable and the big difference right away is the helicopters blades that swings is like a glowy red rather than a dual red, incredible balance game you can see mostly were all the fuel, ammo is located on your map too calculate your fuel consumption. A must have, sorry for the snes fans theirs just doesn't come up to the hype of this version!
Man this video makes it look so easy. When I played this at 4yrs old, all I could do was pick up ammo and fuel and aimlessly shoot at the guns without any clue what was going on. It was my favourite game along side micro machines. Happy Days!
so many other games today do a far better and more spectacular job and much more.. i mean, i'm playing just cause 3 on PS4 now and that has everything. so i think today, games like this can't really be much good or successful.. good war games where you fly choppers, blow shit up, run around and shoot, take over enemy base etc are everywhere.. i did LOVE the strike game series back in the day!
This brings back memories. The good old Sega Megadrive, bought it from my first hard earned money at age 14 and still have it to this day. The EA games were brilliant. Desert, jungle and urban strike, I couldn’t believe the perfect gameplay and graphics back then. And I must say, it still is a good game.
One of my favorites from the 16 bit era. I still bust it out and play every now and then. I can even finish the 1st mission, out of order on our one life on a good day.
Wow! This game was amazing spent many hours playing this game. My strategy was to go in slow and kill everything. It took me many tries but I got it right. One other thing notice how you blow a building up and the pow’s always survive? 😂
That last mission brief, lol. "The embassy officials have given us the location of the Madman's nuclear weapons plant and Presidential Palace. You must prevent these weapons from being produced and sent to the Madman's bomber... BUT OUR FIRST CRISIS is to save the oil fields. this video is so nostalgic. I had this on my parents' SNES, and while I wasn't very good at it (I'm about 80% sure I never got past the second mission, and it took me a while to figure out the first one. Those damn raptors kept missiling my tail rotor) it was a blast to play. Thank the creator for Internet archives and RUclips keeping my childhood alive :-)
Sega genesis was my first console. My dad gave it to me. I was technically too young but my dad got me started early. I want a sega so bad. He still has it but wont let me take it lol. He says "just come over here to play it" old man, I want to play it 24/7
I have very foggy memories of this game, or some type of helicopter game very similar to this one. I recall playing this (I think it was this game) on the computer when I was about 6 or 7 years old back in the early 2000s. I don’t know why we had it, let alone have it on the computer, but this game has haunted my dreams for at least 13 years now. It is only tonight at 2:30 in the morning that I’d decide to look for it, and even then it just doesn’t feel how I remembered it.
Over 25 years has passed since I played or watched this game. Nostalgia...

The helicopter actually has pretty good movement for this games time

@Cornish Fool never even heard of that controller. Incidentally which are your cornish foods? I'm a house fan of most of them.
I see you've never played the Donkey kong country series

Sir Spencer Agreed. Great games!

I loved this game. Me and my friend used to play it everytime we would stay the night at each other's houses. I liked how it had objectives and you could rescue people. Well designed. This is when EA really established themselves with good games. Now they're a scumbag developer.
The reason why it became like that is because they are moneygreedy
My parents were separated. I used to go to my dad's house and sit in front of his TV in his house and play this all night

This EA needs to come back
Defo - - I keep coming back to the strike series.
Back when EA were the best devs in the world.... before the greed
It would be nice on the Switch
You can get Genesis reissue for dirt cheap in ideal condition.
The Independent Fighter this EA is long gone. In fact any kind of EA could be long gone soon.
What a classic. Played it to death on my old Sega mega drive back in the 90's.
This puts a smile on my face.

Best thing about this game is the slap in the 1st cutscene
