    Hi SCD, this video has helped me a lot in the last years to get ortho4xp to look good. However, I have a question. When spawning my plane at Nice Cote D'Azur airport, i get weird triangles along part of the coastline of the airport. I only get it there, the rest of the scenery looks great. Any ideas? Thanx in advance.

    Hello Sir,
    first of all, thank you for all your much appreciated "How to" video's. It is by watching your tutorials that I had the courage to start building Ortho-tiles. I'm still in the beginning of the process (only did 2 tiles so far), but I have a question. A couple of days ago I made my second tile which contains 10 airports. Only after putting them into the sim I noticed that I missed 3 of them. Because I only fly GA it is very difficult to find those very small grass strips of some local airfields. My question: is it possible to add more airports to an already existing tile without having to do the whole tile again? I posted this question also on the forum of xp but nobody reacted. Maybe this is an interesting question that can help more people.
    Thanks in advance for looking at my request, and thanks again for your very instructive videos.
    Best Regards from Holland,
    Eddy

      Well, creating Ortho4XP tiles doesn't remove any airports (at least when the entries in the scenery_packs.ini file are ordered correctly). Of course grass airfields are harder to recognise in photoreal scenery and I recommend covering them in ZL19 orthos. Also, maybe there are some addon freeware sceneries available on x-plane.org to make them stick out more. I hope that helps. Regards

      @@SimulationChannelDeluxe
      Thank you for the fast reply, but I think I didn't make myself clear enough, or there is some kind of misunderstanding. What I mean is this (I'm talking of the tile with the 3 airports I missed in the creating of the tile, and which already is in the scenery folder of XP, with 7 out of 10 zoomlevels around the airports already edited): to create zoomlevels around the 3 airports I missed out in the tile I have to select the tile again after clicking on the "globe" icon . But in doing so, and after adjusting the zoomlevels around the 3 remaining airports I missed before, and after the complete process of creating this edited tile, and put it into to XP again, will the zoomlevels around the other 7 airports which I edited already before be lost because I made a (totally) new tile, so to speak. In other words: will the existing tile be overwritten completely so the new tile will only show the edited zoomlevels around the 3 missed out airports and the other 7 will be lost?
      Or have I have to do all the zoomlevels around the 10 airports anew? To explain it in another way: can I load an existing tile, with already made zoomlevels, back into Ortho4XP and add some more zoomlevels around other airports WITHOUT DELETING the ones that already have been created in the first place?
      I understand that creating Ortho-tiles doesn't remove the original airports in XP and I added almost all existing addon free sceneries of Holland in XP, thanks to the wonderful work of tdg and LPNils (among others).
      I hope a made myself clear this time, or could it be that I just didn't understand your reply correctly (lol)
      Regards,
      Eddy

      @@eddyvandenberghe9796 Okay, so I guess you would like to add more high zoomlevel areas to an already existing tile? ;) That's possilble yes. Select the tile on the world map. Then in the settings of O4XP (the wrench icon), in the lower left corner hit "Load Tile cfg" and then "Apply". This will load in all the existing edits you already did and they will appear in the Custom zoomlevels editor (in case the tile is still intact after your rebuilds).
      You can then add further higher ZL areas, apply as usual and redo the "All in one" tile creation process. Should be working.

      If you're in the US, try using the higher resolution 1/3 DEM from USGS, available through the Config window. Once in the Config window, note the custom_dem button with the blank line. Click the arrow on the right and select the 1/3 DEM.

    for decent realistic coasts change the water mask width to 1500

    • @SimulationChannelDeluxe
      @SimulationChannelDeluxe  5 лет назад

      Yes I was thinking about mentioning this setting as well but decided against it, as I mostly see rivers and lakes in my region and the default value fits nice. But thanks for pointing it out. EDIT: 1500 is a bit overkill imo, that would be 1.5 kilometers. I really like the look of coasts with the default value of 100 meters.

    • @britfrog
      @britfrog 5 лет назад

      @@SimulationChannelDeluxe in theory it is 1.5 kms but in reality the imagery available doesnt go out that far i mostly use 2000 in the caribbean as this allows all the reefs etc to show which makes coasts look much more realistic, i and a few others at simhaven regularly use 1500 around the north coast of france and the south coast of the uk for the same reason , for us it is all these reefs etc that make it look real

    By changing the "use decal on terrain" to true, how will the program know which decal to choose? In your other video you suggested No 32 option from the "ApplyDecals" application. How will Orhto4XP apply this particular decal (or any other) if I change the "use decal on terrain" to true? I tried it and it does not provide me with a list of decals to choose from (like in the the "ApplyDecals" application), to be included in the orthophotos.

    • @SimulationChannelDeluxe
      @SimulationChannelDeluxe  4 года назад

      This option won't let you chose a specific decal, it uses one preset that I can't recall right now... I think it is one of the "maquify_green..." decals, maybe number 19 or 20 in the ApplyDecals tool.

    Hello, you pointed custom overlay - xplane HD mesh v4, where did you place your HD mesh v4 folder, far as i know it should be on custom scenery folder,
    please could you kindly explain, many thanks for all your tutorial video.

    • @SimulationChannelDeluxe
      @SimulationChannelDeluxe  4 года назад

      It doesn't necessarily need to be in the Custom Scenery folder directly, as you can also create a shortcut to a different location within the Custom Scenery folder and X-Plane can still use it. You can also place the HD Mesh somewhere else, don't create a shortcut for XP and just use it as the improved overlay source for Ortho4XP. Cheers :)

    I've always found problems trying to edit the configs in the program after the fact. It always deletes the zoom level zones for me. What I do now is go into my scenery folder, do a search for all files containing "ortho4xo cfg", selecting all the files, right clicking and selecting edit in notepad++. I then just select the line I need, hit "ctrl+f", clicking the replace tab and entering the edited line and then clicking "replace in all open documents". Finally I click "file" -> "save all" followed y "close all".
    Next in the program I select all tiles with the same zoom level (that matches the zoom level selected on the main screen) and then do a batch build making sure that "read per tile cfg" is ticked (IMPORTANT). It still creates the .bak files, but they are identical and can be deleted after. NOTICE (IMPORTANT): It's probably a good idea to search through all the .bak files FIRST. Any that are 876 or 877 bytes can be deleted since they have no zones set for them and the bak file is completely useless. For the rest, they should be compared to their non .bak counterparts and the larger file kept as the .cfg, This ensures that you always have your most complete zone lists before you start editing the settings and rebuilding. If you consolidate all your files first, and keep the "read per tile cfg" box ticked, you can simply delete any .bak files you have left after rebuilding the tiles since they are identical to the current cfg files.

    • @SimulationChannelDeluxe
      @SimulationChannelDeluxe  5 лет назад

      Thanks a lot for describing that procedure. Yes the .cfg file editing method can be very useful when updating many tiles and I'm also mentioning it in the "perfect runway slopes" tutorial. But I found it a bit too much to add this time, so thanks again :)

      You can try that and it's easier, but you lose the ability to customize the airport coverage, for example with a different imagery provider or also ZL19. I think high_ZL_airports always uses ZL18.

    Thanks for the video, I'm new to Ortho and this was helpful. However just a friendly warning to others, these are definitely NOT the "best settings", it depends on location. For example if you apply these settings to Sydney, Australia all boats and harbor activity is erased, leaving very unrealistic empty water ways. Perhaps even worse is that all bridges are faded out to empty water. For the harbour bridge there is a 3d model so less of an issue, but for ALL other bridges it very immersion breaking that they are just erased.
    However thanks to your video it was quite simple/fast to revert some of the settings and recreate as needed, so once again thanks. I would just suggest updating the title to "My favorite settings for inland water in Ortho4XP 1.30" just to be more accurate.

The other way would be to delete the .dds texture and also the the JPEG files in the "Ortho4XP/Orthophotos" folder, hit "Load tile CFG" in the settings window, then choosing a different imagery provider for the cloudy regions in the "Custom Zoomlevels" window of Ortho4XP and finally redo the "Build Imagery/DSF" step.
