    Still relevant years later. Put my tail fin thru the leading edge getting out in shorebreak yesterday…Thanks for the excellent video!

      Great, thanks, yes, as long as wings use bladder, this will be relevant, unfortunately. 🤙🏼

    Thanks to Jeff and Rob for this video that keeps on giving over the years. Have a 4m Ozone WASP that needs a new leading edge. The tips about keeping track of the seam, how you hold it, weight down each side, etc make it great for us to take advantage of your years of experience doing this.

    On my second bladder swap this week I used the pole method to push the bladder through the leading edge. The tip showed up at the opening right side up so I untaped it from the pole. The dump valve 2 ft from the tip was at the right place oriented right side up, so I pulled it through its hole. I then looked back at the tip of the bladder and now it appeared twisted. So what I did was put a little air into the bladder with both tips out, probably .5 psi, to see if the tip would untwist itself. It did. Then I tucked the tip into its container and all was well.

      I guess you found out how important it is to keep the bladder from twisting. 🤙🏼

    Brilliant video just fixed two small holes in my Duotone Slick, were opposite each other on the front strut like something gone through in storage. I will store in a box as suggested in future. Bit of a fail today as it deflated 1km from shore 😂

      Oh no! Did it fail at your repair or is there another leak? Might be time to replace the bladder.

    Hi there, thanks a lot for the incredibly helpful explanations. The video of the repair to the central strut helped me a lot. Unfortunately I found that the hole in my strut bladder was bigger than a patch could mend, so I’ll need to replace mine rather than repair it, but I wouldn’t have been able to confirm that without this video!
    Just for info, I think in your video description you mention that this central strut repair is on the Duotone Echo, I think this should read Duotone Unit, right? :)
    Cheers again 👍

    Even better than pulling the bladder through with a string, tape the end of your bladder with masking tape to a flat 1m ruler and push it through. No twists guaranteed!

      If your bladder is beyond repair, most brands offer replacement bladders for their wings. Another great source for replacement bladders for most brands is: www.airtimekite.com

    Great video - any advice on wings that have one bladder for the entire wing, vs, one on the center strut and one on the leading/outer edge.
    I have Takuma wings and they are designed with this single bladder for center and outer edge, method. I have a leak in the center strut that I can tell is there, since I clamp the plastic parts on the tube valves on each side of the upper center strut, and the rest of the wing stays inflated, but the center strut leaks slowly down. I pulled about 5 feet of the bladder out from the bottom of the center strut opening, and tested that part to see if I could find a leak, and did not. So I am pretty sure the leak is up near the tube valves.
    I am thinking to disconnect the tubes and pull more of the bladder up, with a string on the bottom like you show, and see if I can find the hole and patch it.
    Only thing I saw your videos did not cover was this single bladder model of wing. Thanks a ton for taking the time to do this !

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  2 года назад

      If you have a tube connecting the center strut to the leading edge bladder, or a separate valve, that means there are two bladders, I don’t know of any wings that only use one single bladder. Watch repair #4 at 30 minutes for instructions to remove and repair it.

    Awesome video. Just repaired blowout with patch but when I was pumping it up noticed middle of wing leading edge with crease. I stopped and deflated wing. Any special techniques on untwisting bladder besides pulling it out and stuffing it back in from wingtip?

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  3 года назад +1

      I’m not the expert but make sure the wing is completely dry and powder the wing with baby powder, that can help it untwist. Also Jeff says: if you hang it to dry, hang it up by the rear handle on the strut so it hangs upside down, this can prevent the bladder from getting twisted or folded in.

    Thanks Jeff. I learned how to fix my kites from Kathy Wong, who has a great system :) Love learning all the tricks. Did you contact Duotone to tell them about the seam issue..is that what compromised the bladder?

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  4 года назад +1

      I don’t think the Duotone issue was caused by a seam, if was most likely a kink in the bladder that caused the leak and I did contact them about it. 🤙🏼

    Anyone have issues unscrewing that little blue ring that holds the fill valve in? Mine is locked tight. Looks like yours was just thumb tight. I’ve even tried a wrench and it won’t budge.

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  2 года назад +1

      You might have salt crystals or sand blocking it, try soaking it and using a big pipe wrench.

      @@blueplanetsurf Thank you so much for your time and your response! That's exactly what it was. Bought the kite used. I'm guessing the previous owner never rinsed his gear after use. That thing was locked on solid.

      On the original wing foil you have to pull out the bladder from the side as shown in repair #6 at 40:00
