Omg I've been hoping to see my project come up at some point! YES! I am absolutely blown away by this semi-restoration! As Kyle said in the video, I requested a minimalist approach but gave him complete freedom to do his thing! I'm in South Central Kentucky. I found the blade while restoring a house that was located near a spot an old barn had once stood. I imagine it took many a hens head.... But that's just a guess.
Kyle is correct in that it will grace our barbecue. Although I might not have the courage to use it after all his hard work! I'm ecstatic with the results! Thank you Sir Kyle! Fantastic!
Haha Thanks Ed! So glad you love it, and hoping I get to see a picture of it carving up your barbequed meats!
I hope it's well oiled or all the pits will rust away again in no time. Would have cleaned it up quite a bit more myself.
How much does a Restauration like this cost?
@@milchpulverkakao4917 I'd like to know that as well... On an average.. about what price range???. Just a ballpark figure is all
@@strydyrhellzrydyr1345 i mean it can’t be that expensive because the mora that he restored cots like 80$ or something so it must make sense
You're a true artist! Beautiful!
You are a true craftsman.
Take care Kyle
Thanks Clinton!
Another great tutorial. Another happy customer. Cowabunga matey!
Kyle, she's a beauty and a total win on the handle choice. What a nice look. I think your customer will be very impressed to say the least . Just a real beauty buddy. Again , next level workmanship 👍
Thanks Chris! Even when old and rough looking, a tool can still be useful. 🤣😂
@@kyle_noseworthy That's exactly what I tell my wife! I may be old and rough looking but I'm still useful.
Does she believe you? 🤣
@@kyle_noseworthy not for a minute. You questioning it has now got me wondering if its true!! Thanks a lot! (nice video by the way - wish the customer had all the rust removed, but that would have taken you forever)
@@thelees1000 same here! I may be old and rough looking, but I'm still a tool.
very informative as i had found a clever from my families past. did not know where to start until now. wish me luck Mr Kyle!
I see there’s a new gem. Click like and ready to enjoy myself!! Outstanding work as always bud!!! That’s is a beauty!!!
Great job as always Kyle! Very nice!
Kyle you are a inspiration for many people, I am 50 and just bought a new drafting table, I haven't done a landscape drawing in 15 years. I went to my local Hobby Lobby and bought a roll of practice paper and a few sheets of Vellum, I am going to sit down with my grandson and have him help me design a new clubhouse and garden design. And of course let him draw as well. Great show as always. Have a nice weekend,
That's beautiful Roy. Thanks for sharing, and good for you for diving back in. I hope you two have a wonderful time!
fantastic work Kyle as always .
Besides it being a great video first time in my life I can say this I enjoyed the music well done
Absolutely beautiful piece 👍👍👍👍
Very nicely done Kyle, it's always nice to bring old tools back to working condition 👍🏻
It certainly is, Richard!
Great work as usual!
Greetings from Calgary Alberta
Nice work.
That is so cool looking.
Nice job on this piece!! I’m getting inspired to try a one my self.
This whole video was A E S T H E T I C
Great save! Very unique look.
The RUclips algorithm took me to your channel.
I've watched a few video's now, and I like them a lot!
So, you've got a new subscriber.
Saying hi from the Netherlands. 🤗
Thank you!!
A mate of mine found a cleaver when he was digging up someone’s backyard,(he does garden landscaping). It was buried for a long time. I restored it and he let me keep it. It’s a beast of cleaver, about 1kg and I managed to keep the original handle. I got 90% of the scale/rust off. It still has character marks.
You’re right, they are a fun knife.
Looks awsome
Loved this type of video amazing edit and at the end thought you cut yourself but was red paint haha nice job 👍
Beautiful! Well done.
Kyle, just as in your truck build, I really like it when you take something that nobody else wants, apply some artistry, and present us with an excellent, re-born user! Surely your client will love this one, and everytime it gets brought out will be pleased that at some level space in a landfill was saved! Fine work my friend, more of the same..
😁👍❤️❗️
Thanks Roy! New truck build videos coming soon!!
Awesome Transformation On This Thanks Kyle ! ATB T God Bless
Awesome job ❤
You are an amazing craftsman
Kyle, I just want to thank you for such useful information. I've went from learning how to sharpen a Mora to spending the last couple of days in the shed making a knife from an old garden shears, all inspired by your content. I'm 90% done and it's looking good, it's something similar to a Condor Bushlore. Just hoping the steel holds up now! Keep up the great work!
That's fantastic! I'm so glad you found value in my content!
@@kyle_noseworthy You might have some competition in a few years Kyle haha. Just wondering, is it a bad idea to use an old shears, considering the quality of the steel is probably not great. Either way it's been a great learning curve, many mistakes were made.
Great work, and equally great music selection. As Dixie Dreggs would say…”Tasty”!
That's awesome great job man all the best
That thing looked awesome. I love it
What a beautiful and eye catching cleaver that mess turned into! Great work! :)
Nicely done Kyle
Amazing job
I had my doubts on this one, Kyle, but should have known better! That project turned out to be really cool. What a treasure to find and to breath new life back into. Wouldn't it be fun to hear all the stories that cleaver/knife had to tell? Very nice job and thanks for sharing this with us.
I'm diggin the theme music!
Great looking blade!
Wow that looked like lots of fun! Love the result too (though that will be a pain to wash haha)
I love restoring OLD axe heads that I find metal detecting
here in Maine. Have you ever experimented with electrolysis
for removing oxidation from steel?
I haven't yet, Scott! Pondered it a few times. Metal detecting is something else I'd love to try!
Is there a particular reason you didn't remove atleast most of the pitting? I was kind of expecting to see all of that come off, not to say it _needs_ that of course, but I am curious.
The client has posted in the comments that he requested a very minimalist style restoration.
I think it wouldnt look as good as its now. Also with that, he would need to remove way more steel to the level of the deepest pitting. I think you would loose the style as this knife just looks very old and good now.
Going too far could create more problems. He took it as far as it could go and I think it has benefited from that. It looks super rustic but with a very clean finish.
Sweet. Can’t believe you made that worth while
Nice piece of work. Took a break from watching the Depp/Heard trial on RUclips - glad I did ....
Haha I couldn't watch any of it.. it's like nails on a chaulkboard!

Kyle, you did an amazing job on that knife 🔪. I love the pitting and how you done that handle was awesome . You definitely have been working your behind off . Your channel is one of my absolute favorites !! Great video as always Kyle 👍. Take care and stay safe my friend !!
Thanks Troy! Being as productive as I can. Thank you for your continued support. I love reading your comments
So nice 👍
Wow!! Not only can the S.O.B. work a knife, his editing skills have improved tremendously!! I’m proud of you for making the effort to make me want to watch again! You’ve come along way since the first post, can’t wait to see the next!
Haha thanks buddy. Unfortunately, according to the comments here, some people really didn't like the new style. I'll have to find a balance between the two. You can't please everyone though, can you? Thanks for watching!
That cleaver went from scrap to GLORIOUS!!!
That's a deadly old cleaver, a friend of mine dug one up in torbay years ago and restored it but it wasn't nearly as hefty as that old relic. What a piece to Have hung on the wall in the kitchen.
I wouldn't know where to stop on that edge.
Nice job
When I first saw you starting this meat cleaver I was hoping you was not going to take the pitting out completely .. that thing is so cool man I want one of those for myself I guess I need to find one in the dirt and get it made from you awesome work!!!!!!
Haha best of luck finding one, Anthony! I think those guys with metal detectors have all kinds of luck!
That's a hell of a kitchen convo starter.
Haha It certainly would be eh!!
Something that would really interest me, especially with a pretty extreme piece like this one, is the customer's first reaction.
I understand that probably at least some of the knives (maybe even most) you get to restore are sent to you, and the customer doesn't pick the finished knife up in person. I also am aware that many likely don't want to be in front of the camera. And there might be other reasons that make filming customer reactions hard, but if ever possible, I think it would be lovely to see how people react to your work in person.
Incredible work on this one, as always. It is great to see that you keep the knife's character. I am sure this rather unique-looking knife will get some family members or friends of the client curious about its story.
looks almost like an obsidian knife with the deep pitting looks very cool
Pits in that thing are so deep it could nearly double as a cheese grater.🤣
Hey.. decent intro man... Liking it
Damn that knife went through pack-a-punch And a clean-up
Interesting steel! Judging by the sparks it was closer to a tool steel.
Wow that was so neglected. You did a good job giving it a second life!
Would absolutely have gone with a darkish wood for the handle but otherwise great results.
That Turned out nice. Like that you left the pitting, looks awesome and only time can make that look. I bought a new kitchen knife where they tried to duplicate that look. I'd rather it had been a plain blade after seeing the result.
Decided to hop on youtube and see if there was anything and found gold! :D
haha score!
Good job, i have a similar one nearly as bad as that one but with no handle , I think it was a butchers cleaver that retired it,s life to chopping sticks in the woodshed.
LOL... I was expecting a stash of gold coins found with the metal detector.! Well done restoration...
Beautiful restoration you have done there 😍. I love the good looking knife and as Ed said below, I probably won't have enough courage to use that beautiful knife.
Now I'm not an expert but maybe the tip would help you. I agree with you that it would have taken you lot of time to remove all rust. In that case how about trying electrolysis? Would that work anything better for removing 99% (or heck maybe 100%) rust while maintaining the look?
Again, gosh darn beauty! 😊
That thing came out looking sweet.
Was expecting it to be gound within an inch of its life. Was presently surprised it wasnt
Shoulda checked with the local constables, that might be a long lost murder weapon 😂
Great job as usual. What did you use to stabilize the rust?
Had one like that even had the handle on it.sent you a pic of it. you said it look like it seen its last days.was going to give to you . Gave it away.good luck with that one.
I would not use that thing anywhere near food.
Food prep knives should all have a clean and smooth Finish.
do you ever sharpen machetes i always wanted to get the sharpness of a regular blade on a durable jungle master since the blade is thick
This video felt very different from your usual video, not bad but not my favorite. Part of it was the music there seemed to be more of it and quite different than normal. Also the handle felt unfinished i do not know if it was the square edge toward the blade or the epoxy. Great content and things like this are why i watch knife makers to see the weird and unusual.
thanks for the input, friend. A lot of it comes down to preference doesn't it? Editing, music style, handle materials, blade finish, etc.. we all like different things. Thanks for appreciating the work even if it wasn't your favorite.
Wow. I really like the contrast of the old pitted steel to the newly sharpened steal. Really fine looking knife
Silly question, why not just bead blast the rust off of all the surfaces? I mean sure, wire brush it first to get the heavy stuff off. But a bead blast would take you back to clean steel and arrest any further corrosion. Cool finished result regardless. I enjoy the videos as well.
As a blacksmith, I would have thrown it in the forge. A lot of the blade could have been corrected on the anvil. Most modern blade smiths just remove stock from blades that someone else made or cut out of flat stock and heat treated.
That was a gorgeous piece man! I was expecting a shiny end piece and when you left the pitting but still got it cleaned up so nicely, it really left so much personality in it! So cool!
Thanks Danielle!
It's so nice to see a knife restoration where it's not ground down to the thickness of flashing for the sake of thumbnail cosmetics! Well done!
haha Yea... I have no interest in that silliness. It doesn't suit my style.
it's a post cleaver, not a knife, suppose to be mounted on a pivot and use the handle as a lever to be able to aply strong continuous force to either split or carve medium pieces of wood.
On a butchers cleaver what should the edge geometry be ?
I did wonder if you would use electrolysis to remove at least some of the rust.
Awesome job I'm sure that meat cleaver has not looked that good ever so You my friend are a artist true artist God bless see you later
I love what you did, I so hate that when people just take away all the personality and remove chunks of the blade because pitting is "unsightly" (read- beautiful)
I agree. If theres nothing flaking off or something no need to go further. Also would have just been more expensive to the customer who just wanted user becausr the added grind time. Likely he would have polished it if that what the customer would have asked, but it looks awesome now with character.
The pitting makes it look like a meteor. Meteor knife.
The one part looks super deep... But it definitely will have enough to make something out of it in the end...
Nice job and nice knife.
May I ask what are you using at 3:41 ? You are cleaning the belt or something?
But what can you cut with it? The pitting on the blade will just be a filth magnet and make it harder to clean and more likely to hold bacteria on it?
Damn, that guy probably unconvered a buried murder weapon in his backyard!
might be worth looking into chemical rust removal for things like this
Love this! Super that you are willing to take on this project.
And that the owner found it and wants to use an antique! That’s just awesome !!
I love older tools. Taken care of , some of them can last several lifetimes.
The only question i have is.. did you not have to use any sharpening stones to make an edge?
That's beautiful Kyle!!
Still has the character of age but VERY usable. I'd be proud of that.
Do you do commissioned work?
Thanks Jimmy! I certainly do!
Maybe I missed it, but it looks like you've done some treatment (blueing?) on the iron oxide that was left, converting it to a black form?
Nope! Just a good washdown and oiling with good grade oil!
You need a heavy-duty sand blaster that thinng give somebody LOCK JAW
Haha Naw, it's fine. Although I have been wanting a sand blast cabinet!
no Gold just rusty old steel boo wanted to see you dig up some Gold
My old lady heard me watching this video and she was like, "You watching porn?" "Sounds like you watching some girl getting naked" 😆 ✊👏
As long as they don't plan on using that for food they should be happy, not sure why you didn't remove the rest of the rust?
The rust is 99% removed. What's left is the blade itself with incredibly deep pitting!
In Denmark: A butcher knife, used as an ax for cartilage or thinner bones.
Look how freaking thick that tang is.. ohh my god... That's a beast...
I can only imagine how thick it was to begin with... Lol
