I had a stroke 5 months ago (with 26) loosing some of my peripheral vision (indirect vision) mostly left side and hadn't road any bike seriousley since then. I probalby wont ever be riding fixed like in that video again because of the too high risk of making an accident or getting run over cus I didn't see it coming... riding like this u need all ur senses at highest level. It makes me lil sad at first but I still very enjoy watching these videos. Digging up the feeling riding fixed being in the present and sending it (very good feeling) Ur videos with this many awsome riders were one of the main driver and motivator for me to start riding fixed. Greetings from Germany.
Don't worry. You'll find meaning in your life in another way. At least you didn't end up dead on the pavement like a lot of the tragic stories you hear from fallen fixed riders!
you learn to read the flow of traffic and behaviors of drivers. a lot of times you can see the driver of a potential dangerous car and see if they even recognize you, based on that you make your move. there is no trust, all calculated decisions in symbiosis with the urban environment.
I think the wheelie guy is from Portland. We went on a shredder of a Friday Night Ride and he was on it; damn fine time. This video is awesome and makes me miss my NYC bike messenger days.
On some of those intersections where there is no winning do you ever just go with the flow and go around the block or take a different route? or always just push through lol
You should branch out and make videos about: 1. Cycling Gear. 2. Camera Gear. 3. Cycling-related spots in NYC. 4. Step-by-Step instructions on how to take your bike from the city to nearby places you can get away to, like Bear Mountain, without using a car. 5. Interviews with messengers. 6. Your favorite bars and restaurants. 7. How congestion pricing, once it happens, has affected your cycling. There's a lot of untapped potential there. Also, it will probably easier on your knees.
8:53 "I can't keep up and he's still doing wheelies, that's not fair." Yup life is like that sometimes.
Kids a beast
