I agree I love the exploration aspect...that's also the reason why if we don't have maps we don't need coordinates and using a 3rd part map. Just makes not having one pointless...just give us good calls and a better scent mechanic and get rid of the coordinates. Find out the natural realistic and fun way. So I LOVE that they put land marks and what not way better that way
Good tips and helpful video. Whenever you mention following roads and game trails I can't help but think of the Jurassic Park 2 line "This is a game trail, Mr. Ludlow. Carnivores hunt on game trails. Do you want to set up a base camp or a buffet?".
im gonna fly around with pteranodon anyway (im a pteranodon main) im joking, but i know spiro pretty well, and i haven't played much other than pteranodon. this is because with pteranodon, i'm not flying high up in the air. this rarely happens, except on long distance travel, because climbing takes stamina (and there's no soaring in the game). more often, i'll be between just above the trees to just below the canopies.
The thing with gateway is, there's a lot of hills and mountains requiring you to increase in altitude, costing stamina. I died of thirst the other day when underestimating the distance to fresh water. The water symbol showed on the other side of the mountain and I knew there was nothing in the direction I came from that I could reach to in time, so the only option was to go over the mountain. I got halfway up then I had to rest to regain stamina. my water bar turned red after one minute and I had to try again but didn't have enough stamina so died while resting the second time.
ptera is my fav. and I know ill be torn if they don't release new payables, playing the stress test, My first instinct was to play ptera glad they removed the option for now, but I love flying being a hera will be awesome
Well, if you think about it, ground view & sky view are both something that we need to learn. Sky view is important to learn, because while your mostly on the ground, because lack of fliers, all you can do, is look up, so it’s important to also learn to navigate the sky, as well as the ground.
the roads are a serious issue for me... no dino irl would follow roads in the open, it's just too vulnerable... I would much rather have more deer run style paths but that's just me.
Yeah it'd be cool to have a network of game trails connecting migration zones instead of just the current roads where everything can see you coming a mile away. It would give herbivores more security and incentive to actually follow them. Also sets up awesome ambush spots for smart carnivores. I've found some hidden trails like this in gateway but they don't lead to anywhere in particular or are just frustratingly dead-ends most of the time.
I usually play ptera once right away when a map releases, to get a mental picture of the map (I have photographic memory).. and then ONLY play land dinos, usually going with Omni/Utah or Galli (previously teno). This has worked for me for all the maps, including legacy. And using an external map, such as Vulnona interactive map, as a helping hand when completely lost for water. Though I try to avoid using maps when learning.
@@Ambush_yt V3 was extremely easy to learn, mostly consisted of plains/not many trees, the map was very recognisable and you could see many landmarks from just going up a hill.. Gateway is trees. A lot of trees. And it is triple the size of V3
Next to the western part of the river on "no man's land" from what I know after playing today, there is a migration zone for tenonto. The location is Lat 214 and Long -204.
I played gateway today and I found it REALLY disappointing. there are WAY more sudden cliffs or insanely steep hills that you can go careening off while following migration, TONS of dead end pathways that you THINK are part of your migration but lead nowhere. Optimization is also a joke, tanking many people with 40 series cards into 30fps which is just unacceptable. if the best cards in the market cant run it decently, what do the rest of us have to hope for? barely any functional daylight requires night vision CONSTANTLY, what's the point in being a cool dino when you don't even have the light to appreciate it more than 4 minutes. AND nightvision being so much worse and stamina being insufferable WHILE trying not to starve to move to migration zones. its just a bad time unless they take the community feedback for once
I think the island in the south-east (and the smaller island in the north-west) is not used. I mean, there must be/were people who discovered it. But there is nothing here. They could put a lake on it or bring it a little closer to the main island. Smaller islands would be placed between them and the big island. So that you don't have to swim a lot, for example. Let's say 100 meters or something like that. And it's true, with migration, this area would fall far outside the ideal areas. But there would be the possibility for people to play on them as well, and not just adventurers to undertake their visit. There would be potential, and perhaps these are really beautiful areas. I have not been to these secluded islands. Simply because I had no reason to. And with a stego, it would take a thousand years before I could get to these. So far, the migration has really only taken place in the central area. From the jungle to the highlands and the swamp. It was always among them when I played. However, as you said, it could be a destination in the eastern and western areas. For example, the most south-western and the most northern areas are very much out of everyone's itinerary. There is even a road in the southwest, but no source of drinking water. A lake or a small river would put it on the map as an area to visit, which could be interesting.
You are absolutely right.....the map does remind me of Skyrim.....I have so much hours in Skyrim and when I first played Gateway in the Highlands I was like...this is literally the plains near Whiterun.
You're assuming that I know where the river is :'D Thanks though! New to the game and have learned a lot this last week. Slowly starting to get a semblance of orientation, but whenever someone is like 'let's go back NE' or sth I'm just like... sure, you lead the way, I have no idea where we are, I just know there's water here LMAO.
It's a shame that there are some parts of the map where migrations aren't enabled. The point of migrations was to spread players over the map, but it isn't even doing that.
It definitely spreads players out throughout the areas that have them. From what I can tell, there's enough room on the western end of the island for two, maybe three more migration zones while the large island can probably host one to two. When the biodome an aviaries get properly implemented I imagine each of them will have a migration, adding three more to the map. Part of the reason some areas are empty currently could be that they intend for future playables to inhabit those areas of the island, though that's just speculation on my part.
The only thing I wish and it might change with full release but I played teno and gali for a good amount of time and for both there were only two zones and they just cycled back and forth so it got pretty boring after a while. I was hoping migration might show us more of the map and more of the food on the diets.
Correction: The map at 19:36 is a little inaccurate. I have realized that the area on the western end of the map between "No" and "Man's" does currently have a single migration
Is it known if the carni migration marker takes into account player count? Say teno is on my diet, I'm near their zone, but there's no teno players on the server. Will it still point me that way to hunt to no end?
Bad example since there's AI tenos but yeah lets say the closest one is the dibble X stego zone next update but there's no dibbles online, then yeah you're screwed
I don't believe they take into account player count. I have been sent to active migration zones with nothing going on in them as a carnivore. To the best of my knowledge, the compass will still point to the migration zone when you leave the area, but if you get closer to another active migration zone the compass will start pointing to the closer one. Map knowledge (and knowledge of where the migration zones are for your prey items) is extremely important for carnivores so that you can leave dead migration zones and find ones with more players.

600 hours in the stress test atm as of 11/25/2023, am loving the map so much, so many areas to find even with 600 hours in game, also loving the teno AI in game, makes exploring as a carnivore and surviving as one so much easier atm. All of the smaller Islands surrounding the main island are accessible. Unfortunately there's no migrations or sources of fresh water on any of them currently. Until the devs either add water sources or dinos that can drink salt water the only things that can feasibly survive out there are pteras which can eat sea turtles and crabs while flying back to the main island for water when needed. Beipis can forage for crabs all around the islands, but without a fresh water source it's rough for them.

There are 3 separate rivers, 4 if you count the major split in the central river. Two are in the western end of the map and are fairly short while a branch of the central river goes to NE plains instead of Water Access.

Cannibalism is a good way of balancing the amount of a certain dinosaur that either A: has no competition Or B: has competition but straight up outmatches it If Deinos weren’t cannibals then rivers, lakes, ponds, every water source would be filled to the brim with them, and you would see groups of three, four and beyond on each water source, them being cannibals balances the population out and also is used as a last resort for when deinos aren’t being successful with their hunts, you also have to remember that deinosuchus has a really big stomach, so it needs prey as big as him And with cerato it’s the same thing, a skilled enough cerato can dominate pretty much every dinosaur expect stego and deino, its damage, turning speed and bleed resist make it a formidable opponent, and its hunger also drops pretty fast, so it can resort to cannibalism when it really needs food Sorry for the wall of text, I wanted to clarify the mechanic, and that you should also be using it, in the isle it is kill or be killed

@@skydinolord3152 Not sure, I'm not all that literate when it comes to PC specs and how they compare to each other (hence why I bought a prebuilt much to the dismay of my friends lol).
The only advice I can give (and it may not be good advice so take it with a grain of salt) is to just save up and go all out when you get the opportunity. I used to be very skeptical about how much of a difference there was between getting 30-40fps and being consistently at or above 60fps, but man it makes a world of difference.
@@jjfajen Thanks, I'm not to good at pc specs myself so I also bought a preubuilt 😭. I was happy with the pc until I found out I could only get 40 fps, which is still good, but not what i'm wanting for a game like the isle. I'll probably look into it a bit more before making any decisions
i have a 3060 and get a stable 70-80 fps on gateway. although i got 120-150 fps on spiro with max settings

But we cant play pt cause its been taken out of the game xD
They’re going to add it back in eventually
what specs your pc?
is the map out for the average Joes?
It’s undergoing public stress testing, if you can find the code you can play it
Show of hands who uses TI Vulnona here 😅
i was with my stegofirst time in the nort west.... there was not eben 1 eatbl plant ... why the devs do bullsit like this?
thank you
this game would be good without cannibalism
Cannibalism is a good way of balancing the amount of a certain dinosaur that either
A: has no competition
Or
B: has competition but straight up outmatches it
If Deinos weren’t cannibals then rivers, lakes, ponds, every water source would be filled to the brim with them, and you would see groups of three, four and beyond on each water source, them being cannibals balances the population out and also is used as a last resort for when deinos aren’t being successful with their hunts, you also have to remember that deinosuchus has a really big stomach, so it needs prey as big as him
And with cerato it’s the same thing, a skilled enough cerato can dominate pretty much every dinosaur expect stego and deino, its damage, turning speed and bleed resist make it a formidable opponent, and its hunger also drops pretty fast, so it can resort to cannibalism when it really needs food
Sorry for the wall of text, I wanted to clarify the mechanic, and that you should also be using it, in the isle it is kill or be killed
@@misterionorman9764but without cannibalism wouldnt they all starve and then less people would play as a croc?
@@EvilNecroid then you would make the playables unplayable lol
unhealthy 91 hours bruh im more unhealty i have 5000+ hours on the isle
he probably meant unhelthy 91 hours already on gateway.
that is just sad
Ptera isn't even available

i loved The Isle but this map is bullshit. looks great but when it comes to playing on this map, its a disaster. everything u see is mountains over mountains, if you want to switch bioms, you need to become a Mountain Climber, so for now its climbing and falling simulator. no eco-system on the world would work on that island. the AI is bugged like shit 99% of it will walks it self against a guess what .... FUCKING MOUNTAIN and shuts the fuck up so you cant even hear it. if ur lucky u see it randomly or u die as a carni, if u dont find a random dead body. total bullshit. from loving the game to hating it.
