I wonder if the one with the camera thought about standing on the other side of the table so we can ACTUALLY SEE what he is talking about and not just looking at his back as he talks and shows equipment
Just some constructive feedback. I couldn’t see the items being discussed because the camera is on the wrong side. All I could see is your back. Great topic otherwise.
When I arrives to US ,I will be buy Ameye langstroth hives from you.Just now pre view it benefit function processing air ventilation for hive temperature equalling control.
I used Pierco and Mann Lake foundation before discovering Premier foundation, also embedded wire into wax like the old days. That cheap smoker needs a torch used to burn the crud off the top and scrape it, then its OK. Just ordered a new smoker of better quality. Buyer Beware when it comes to buying bee equipment online because you cannot inspect anything until it arrives. My first hive was in a kit and a horror story dealing with an out-of-state vendor.. I buy some gadgets to handle queens to avoid damaging her.
Lol I'm originally from Australia. I bought a Bee suit and wore it once. The heat was worse than bee stings. now I just ware a veil and no gloves. It's rare I get stung. Maybe once or twice in 2 month period.
I don't want wire in my cut comb. That being said in a rude tone in my voice. Now don't waste a full sheet on beeswax foundation on your frames. A 1" strip is all you need. I use hot wax to glue the strip into the groove of the top bar. So with one deep sheet of beeswax I get 8 frames of cut comb. I'm starting my 5 season now and still haven't mastered the plastic foundation. It's either cross combed or floating. Even tried aligning the frames N-S to align with the magnetic earth field. Most feral colonies build comb on the N-S plane. You should try divining / dowsing your own apiary. There are some spots that just shouldn't be used as apiaries. Anyway I have the wax and a crockpot but do think I'd be prepared when I need the frames. No. I'm usually in a hurry and don't take the time to add more wax to my plastic foundation frames. 🙃
I used to use plain wax foundation, in the olden days before plastic foundation had been invented yet, and we always had to use liquid bee's wax at the top of the foundation to glue it into the top groove of the bar. If a bead of hot wax was put along both sides of the foundation it would hang perfectly in the frame and never warp from heat. To make a wax beader I would take a piece of 1/2" diameter copper pipe about 6" long and cut one end off at a 45 degree angle and then flatten it with a nail in the longest corner. Pounding the 45 degree angle with a hammer would seal it pretty well. A little solder could be used if the two parts flattened together did not seal. The nail was pulled out and that was the spot the wax would be used to come out and form the wax bead. This would be put into a container of hot melted wax and allowed to get warm. When wax was needed one puts their finger over the other open end and then uses the other end to apply a bead of wax by carefully and slowly loosening their finger on the other end so the wax would slowly come out where the nail hole was, and with proper finger control the wax could be applied in a nice bead.
good tip. I have 3 hives; 2 double deeps and 1 single. I also have 6 honey supers. I started with 1 last spring and thru a split and a swarm capture I ended up with 3. Looking to the spring what additional hive components would you suggest? I definitely plan on at least 2 nucs.
Mistakes will happen and the way you bounce back is what makes you a better beekeeper.. Most important is killing mites and if they are controlled the hive will make brood and a big honey crop.
Thank you for making a video about just purchasing the basic equipment for a beginner. I spent about a year researching and studying prior to my first year of beekeeping (March 2022) which kept me from making useless purchases. I couldn't agree with you more on the basic items you covered. The bee suit is the most important item to me. I have a good one from Dadant but I plan on purchasing the 420 Aero you use. Keep the videos coming please!!
I really love these new videos and Genius to do these during the winter it shakes things up and it's just a Great variety of videos so👏🐝👏Thats really not that bad a price to start Beekeeping surprised me! I'm getting ready to start beekeeping this spring. I'm building almost everything I need as far as the hive goes. Also building swarm traps. I ordered 2 packages and 2 nucs to start with. My goal is to finish the early spring with 6 running hives

I’ve never had the issue of then not drawing on plastic foundation .
First pay for your master beekeeping certification cause then bees just fall from the sky already in a box.
