Kunafeh (with cheese, not the other varieties) is definitely the best dessert from the Middle East. Perhaps "halawa bil jubneh" (Syrian, AFAIK) is tied with it, or maybe edges it slightly. There are several ME desserts that use that cheese as a filling; they are all 💯!

Theor ghee itself was diff. in taste wen I had that box of different shapes and taste of that roasted vermicelli pista sweet my uncle bought back from Saudi Arabia Wow, still yearned for it When I was in Oman I used to have Omani Halwa once in a while...I couldn't devode which was bettr after I had that vermicelli sweet...but I dun think I had any sweet cheese in between those

Yess there are other variations that don't use the sweet cheese (called Akawi), and it still works because you top it with sugar syrup! I actually found mine at an East Asian grocery store.
