- Using the power of AI, we can fix those MidJourney, Dalle-2, and Stable Diffusion faces. It turns out that there are some great AI tools out there used to restore faces, so we will leverage those to fix our MidJourney face issues. I will show you using an image I did in my live stream yesterday where I was working on my entry for a weekly AI Art challenge for the 7 Deadly Sins.

Honestly, this has just blown my mind.
It's a pretty sweet solution!
Wow! It's amazing that such a tool exists for free. Thank you so much!
It really is!
I recently created a RUclips playlist called "AI image tools" to save clips like this one right here. So far your videos represent 100% of the saved content in there :)
Awesome, thank you! That's pretty amazing! lol!
Can you share that special file? Hehe
Could you configure this list to be publicitly available?
@@AlexZ005 I appreciate the sentiment but the playlist has this video's here as well as the "Upsize your art" one from the same channel. I suggest making your own list. They're really handy.
Could you share me that playlist? please
Duuuuuude! That is amazing! The fidelity of the reconstructed faces are just breathtaking. Thank you for showing us this!
My pleasure!
Bloody hell Scott, I didnt think I was technical enough for all that, but you made it easy AND fantastic results! Cheers.
Glad it turned out well!
A heap of thanks for introducing me to this tool. Not an exaggeration to say that without it, I'm not sure I'd be spending much time/effort/cash on DALL-E at all. I'll be linking back to this vid from several of my own upcoming... Keep up the good work!
Thanks!
Wow! Thank you! You are officially the first to use that feature!
Thank You Scott - I have literally been able to pick up using AI generated images and quickly tough them up in less than an hour and your tutorial was great to follow to give me better results from facial generation. Appreciated!
Great to hear!
Like many, I'm very new to this tech. My bookmarks folder is rapidly filling with all the things recommended by this channel. Its very clear that the new digital art frontier going to involve being able to find a workflow through an ever-expanding suite of AI and software. But its so rewarding that it doesn't seem to require the kind of energy I'd otherwise have to muster to learn new stuff. Thanks for another great vid!
You are more than welcome! Have a great weekend!
As lots have said most of the midjourney help videos I've watched are yours and yes the inbox was the greatest help I've taken from any!
OMG YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE saint with the google collabs! OMFG I never used it before I found your channel lol! And, well, really I think you and perhaps a couple or one other, argh darn memory-anywho-OMFG thank you! It's just, wow. All of these are so amazing! Thank you for the sharing, LOL it's just positronic-mania fuel!
Thanks!!!! I was so intimidated by the Google ai tool earlier today. Thank you for making this tutorial.
Omg, thank you! I discovered this solution yesterday, but wasn't sure how to run the code. Who knew it was so easy, lol. I thought I'd have to run it on my own computer. This will save me so much time. I'm currently editing faces by hand with Procreate. I plan on using it to fix old family photos too. I really appreciate the video!
Glad I could help! I also agree this is a pretty amazing tool in so many ways!
Great video. Easy to understand and straight to the point
Thanks for this video, this is revolutionary technology & exactly what I needed! I've seen so many AI generated portraits with fantastic facial features, and always wondered how it was done.
Thank you google algorithm for showing me this AMAZING video!! Hell yeah!
Thank you! This has been my biggest problem with my AI art.
I’ve been trying to work on face, and stories. How people can get the same feel and vibe with multiple midjourney images to tell a whole story is absolutely crazy
My mind is blown out of my skull!! Thank you so much for this valuable tip!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so much for this Scott, always good to know there are good souls out there willing to share their knowledge. I'm loving Midjourney atm but really struggling sometimes with faces, as I find it's a bit hit & miss. This GPFGAN link though could just be the reason I don't Unsubscribe from MJ. Awesome. Well done mate.
More to come! Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment as well!
Artbreeder can be used to create faces also. Your mileage may vary.
@@TarlTelford I love the faces on artbreeder, and StableD has a tie in there now as well. I might make a video on that, as I was a paid member of AB for a while now.
Dude really, you have way the best channel for ai generated art with such a lot of tricks and tipps.
Thank you so much 😀
Thanks, Scott! Another great solution! In my first week or two playing with the AI art gens, I came up with some images I really liked but which had pretty wonky faces. This def saved them. And fast! Also, now I know I don't have to keep fishing variations when I already have an image I like (minus the wonky face) or spend a ton of time repairing the wonkiness in PS.
It seems like generating unlimited images with MJ's $30/mo sub, fixing hands and wonky limbs and whatnot in DALL-E 2 for a few cents, and then fixing faces with this GAN is the current best solution for fast prototyping and ending up with images that are either ready to use or at least 95% of the way there. I'm sure the future will bring (1) AI that has fewer issues with limbs and faces and/or (2) all these repair solutions under one roof but, for now, it's good to have a work flow that gets it done quickly and less manually.
I've been an artist and designer for years (both professionally and just for fun) and am super excited about the possibilities with the tech. I know from hysterical comments under various videos about MJ, D2, SD, etc. that a lot of artists are scared of being replaced by machines and are desperately lashing out at these AI generators but, personally, I'm already finding them to be great tools that enhance the things I do and really supercharge the ideation phase. I'm nothing but stoked at this point, creatively and otherwise.
Loving your coverage of all this, Scott, all your super helpful tips and recs, AND your embrace of these new tools. Subscribed!
Thanks! I just started practicing portraits last night in MJ and ran one of the upscales through this. Great results ironing out the noise and wonkiness.
Great to hear!
Fantastic tool. Thanks for sharing and an easy step by step. Some of the output I have tried so far has been excellent. There goes my weekend! 😉
Glad it helped and sorry about the weekend ;-)
Another great video. I can see this being really useful in creating and augmenting artwork quickly... especially when faces can take so much time to get right. All these tips you're sharing are really helping me visualize a real world workflow using AI. Thank you!
So glad you find them helpful!
Brilliant! Thanks for providing such an invaluable tool for AI portaiture.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks, Scott!
You're welcome!
Dude, this is pure gold! Thanks for the tip, instantly subscribed.
Thank you!
A little late in commenting but I thought I would say how pleased I am with this notebook I generate portraits in Disco Diffusion Portrait generator( more pleasing results than Dall-E) and use Photoshop to correct distortions. Your suggested method is fantastic and I am using it to great effect. Thankyou!
Thank you! I really love how easy this can make things. Cheers!
Great tipp! Great help! Thank you very much Scott
You are welcome!
man thanks that is able to restore old photos!!! WOW
TNice tutorials is really well done Mike, thanks for putting the ti and energy into tNice tutorials.
Glad you like them!
I really appreciate you sharing this technique! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
This is so great! They just need one for limbs & hands now! haha
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video, it's very appreciated. I was able to follow along easily. Subbed, liked, saved. =)
Glad it helped! Thanks for taking the time to like it as well! So few take the time to do so.
awesome, thank you for sharing and showing
Bravo, Scott! I have to try this!
Go for it!
This is superb! Thank You Sir! Much appreciated!
You are most welcome!
Terrific video! This is all great stuff. I'm primarily a landscape photographer, but I like photographing people. I even had a small studio with an 8x10 portrait camera....My problem? I couldn't get people to come in, and I'm not that good with styling (clothes, hair, makeup) in real life. This new digital content creation allows me to have fun without bothering a bunch of other people. Hopefully, it'll allow me to create scenes where I can take photographs of people to fit in the scene. Having the template for the image, as it were, should be very helpful in taking the photographs. Keep up the good work!
I will keep the videos coming! I also agree as this is a wonderful motivator for me to take my photography in new and exciting directions.
Works so good, holy cow! Thanks for the video.
You're welcome!
Wow! Blown away...thanks for the tip.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, thank you!
I had problems uploading images using Safari ("stack error" or something similar), and the simple solution is to use Google Chrome instead.
Thanks for sharing that tip!
thx I was blocked
Thank you so much
I tried switching to chrome and edge but keep getting stack errors.
This awesome. Thanks for the walkthrough...much appreciated!
No problem!
Thank You...the results are great!!!!!
Great to hear!
Real-ESRGAN v4 with face enhance is probably still the best for faces. Works with free colab tier since the process can be broken up into tiled sections and reassembled automatically... Thus it doesn't require any specific GPU. You can also compile your own and add it to a Discord server and you can put however many models you want into a folder and let people use it.
Oh! I would love to do that! I will have to dig around on how to set that up.
@@sedetweiler If you make another video like this for REAL-ESRGAN, I'd love you forever :P
Hey budd, care to explain a lil better how to get to a discord bot ? thanks
Wow gonna try this now, im now subscribed to your channel. Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks for subbing!
This video really helped me. Thank you very much!
I am glad!
There is also a shortcut running all the cells at once...its strg + F9 or something! Boarding atm...thanks for all the info! This is great content!!
Thanks so much for letting us know! Really helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Thats incredible 😍 thank you so much! It works! 😄
You're welcome!
this is a game changer. thank you for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
@@sedetweiler I've been experimenting since watching this, and i noticed it makes the faces look a little too comparatively clean, so I'm rolling with a transparency over the original (usually just the face and hair) , with a 60%/40% - ish blend depending on how crazy the original was and i really like the results! It even fixes transplanting, like when i take eyes mouth nose from another picture, the GFPGAN will use it and give me a new blended face, which is awesome for getting a "character" to look the same from image to image :)
@@scottlambert9074 perfect! I think that you are using it exactly how you should. This is all personal preference and bending the result to meet your needs is ideal.
Dooooooood so sick!!
It's pretty amazing!
DEFINITELY A LIFE SAVIOR
Totally!
You freaking rock dude
hehe, thanks!
This is a gamechanger!!!
Thanks so much ....wow...what an improvement.....Truly amazing results
Great to hear!
Great video amazing and simple process, thank you!
thanks so much, I use this to fix my sister's photo, is look pretty good now. thanks again!!
You're welcome!
Just WOW! thanks for Sharing.
Incredibly informative. As soone with no background in soft other than so Nice tutorialgh school band, I completely understand everytNice tutorialng
Glad it was helpful!
Had errors using Firefox but Edge worked fine. I was trying to find this the other evening, thank you!
You're welcome!
@@sedetweiler I noticed in the first Cell there is an address and the GAN can be downloaded... So I did. ChaiNNer pops and error when the GAN is loaded (doing it the same way we loaded the '.pth' GANs fro the Wiki site). is there a way to get chaiNNer to recognize it? Or another piece of local software? Would be wonderful to run this locally (even if I slower). I don't mind getting into the weeds and down a rabbit-hole, I have a background in tech but this is all new to me.... I am learning though!
@@nondivisiblequotient I filed it as an error yesterday and he said he was aware of it. I think he is trying to make it work, but it is a bit more effort than I think we realize.
@@sedetweiler Awesome, thank you. if you hear anything! I'll keep trying with each new version that comes out.
Super useful Scott, thanks !!! A short but step by step video showing how to properly replace the face with the corrected one with Photoshop would be awesome for a PS beginner like me 🙂
I have quite a few of those in my live streams. Those can get pretty involved.
I think you are perusing a path in which I predicted would happen when I was trying to find a career path in my late teens, which has laid dormant for a long time artistically. Being a former old-school nerd of Photoshop and now in the industry of engineering, I cant help but think.. what would have been ..If I chose to follow a similar path than yours, at this day and age with AI inspiration, I think that would have taken a hold of me.
It isn't too late! This jet has not even left the terminal yet. :-)
i want to say thanks so much once more... i did give it a shot when i first saw your vid... i took one that was totally not the best (really crappy) and boy oh boy.. though it was not 100 percent great it made so much a great difference with a little photoshopping one can get it to truly work.. as i said i took one that was totally blown to see the limitations and again.. wow!! thanks so much once more !
Glad it helped! It is a bit time saver for a lot of images I would otherwise need to discard.
Really great. Thank you for sharing the process, it's quite simple, really.
Glad it was helpful!
more handy tips! Thanks heaps!
More to come and thanks for helping to support the channel!!!
Awesome thanks for the video!
Thanks for your AI uploads they've been incredibly helpful and they're a joy to watch. I played around with GPFGan and it does work wonders on the face, but the neck needs some work - a bit like a cheap-ass plastic surgeon :D
That is a great way to sum it up, and a very accurate description of where it needs love. :-)
I tried a few images and its amazing, it wont fix images that are very graphical designed (aka messed up) but 100% old photos or low quality it is amazing at thx
Yea, sometimes the face is just so destroyed nothing is going to save it.
Love your content - have just subscribed. Felt compelled to point out that it is "GFPGAN" though, and not "GPFGAN" as mention. Might help some others find it online with the correct spelling :) Keep up the great content!
Dyslexia untie, UNTIE! Oops, I mean UNITE! Thank you SO much, I will fix this in the graphic and the text. Geez, that was pretty funny and a nice catch.
Thank you so much !!!
You're welcome!
Love your channel super helpful
That's great to hear! Thank you!
This is amazing!
Thanks a lot 😍
You're welcome 😊
Thank you very much.
this is great ! thank you so much
You are welcome!
Many thanks sir.
These are awesome results. But aren't there any easier or faster online tools to do that process? Can you create a video to list and demonstrate some online Ai Restoration tools?
This is awesome. I spent hours today fixing faces in PS and then found this and did it in minutes. Very easy to follow tutorial. Thanks so much.
Wondering what people are doing with the art they are producing. Any tips on how to sell them would be great :)
Glad it helped! As far as selling, I think that is all over the place, with a ton of people minting them for NFTs most of the time.
Thank you!!! BIG HELP!
What would be a reason you might want to modify it? Just curious since you mentioned it. Fantastic tool, thank you for sharing!
That's amazing!!! I'm gonna try that out asap!!
It really helps a ton!
@@sedetweiler Thank you so much for the tips! :D
Awesome video, thank you so much! I also had the widgets error for uploading files in Firefox, but it worked in Edge. Now if you find a tool to fix hands, I'll build you a statue! :)
Keep in mind it is a Google product, so you might have the best luck using Chrome. ;-)
I LOVE IT! GRACIAS
I'm glad you like it
WOW! I just got into AI Art and I have NEVER even commented on a youtube video in my life (I have watched millions of them) but had to just say I love this!! It resolved my biggest disappointment with AI art.
Thank you! And thank you for taking the time to leave your first comment! 🙂 I am glad to hear it was helpful! 🥂
Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!
NIIIIIICEEEE!
Thanks!
Amazing, thank you!!!! its magic :)

You're welcome
dude you are god, thank you very much
Perfect! thanks.
Amazing
Thank ya.
@@sedetweiler ya this just put my face retouching of old photos out of biz! amazing.
But.... it only works well on images that are fairly close cropped into the face. I tried some scans of whole body babies being held were old scans of black and white images and the results were terrible. If I had shots that were cropped in closer, then the face cleanups were superb.
i find that this leaves a square around the face which is very noticible once you see it.
If you ran it through the photo shop AI tool they have to fix faces would be really informative. I’m going to do a comparison now for myself
That would be a fun check! I think a lot of those tools, like a few websites, are using this in the background to do the heavy lifting. It is really the best face reconstruction tool I have found.
@@sedetweiler It's the same one that tencent has on their arc site isnt it? just without the watermarks!
It might be!
Eu amo vc cara!!!!!
Nice tutorial. Could you do a aeries on how to find and use different things like this. Example I see tons of RUclipsrs running stable diffusion straight from their computers. No clue how they are doing that.
This was a very helpful video. I will share it as much as possible. But i have some problems uploading upscaled files ... you mentioned some issues with big files in the video. Do you know if there are documentation on how to avoid that? Thanks!!!!
I started using chaiNNer as it has more options and I can really scale these to insane sizes with that app. I did a video on that solution not long ago.
thanks !
Hi There, Thanks so much for this great tool. It seems however it takes out bright or very blue eyes. Is there anyway I can avoid this? Not all portraits need to be brown eyed people....🙂
Thanks for the video, that is a live saver. Now I just need a tool that can remove weird things from the background, like a hand coming out of hair. I could do it in Photoshop, but that takes time ;)
