Hey everyone!🌸 Thank you SO much for watching!!! What did you guys think of my interview with Erica? Any feedback? Would you guys like to see more videos like this?😊
I wanna do an interview. I never feel truly represented watching these.
It was amazing and so interesting! You managed so well the interview and were so kind and empathetic as always to the guest Erica. I was also surprised about the ego dystonic term and the action reaction one too, i literally suffer some degree of it i think so your interview felt so introspective and resonated so much. Thank you, Erica and Psych2Go 🤗❤️
Very informative, love when y’all do these interviews. Helps me understand topics from a first-hand experience.
Thank you for having me on Michelle!! This was a great conversation and I really enjoyed the audience interaction as well. Hope we can collab again sometime in the future 🙂
@@golferorb Sure! Can you share more about yourself?
Never realized most people didn’t experience this. I just thought it was “normal”. Thanks for opening my eyes.
Thanks for watching and finding this video valuable. What video do you want to see next from us?
There are so many misconceptions about what having OCD and Pure O is like.
OCD and intrusive thoughts have literally ruined my life.
Do you mind sharing more on your experiences?
there,s a way out im sure 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
@@Psych2go I'm 24. I developed OCD when I was about 12. The intrusive thoughts started when I was about 19. Unfortunately I haven't been able to overcome them at all and I've let them win. I can't do the things I want to do because of them. I have to live a miserable existence otherwise they attack my head 24/7.
I was diagnosed with OCD at a very young age but never thought much of it and have never done much research on it. The only view of it I ever had was the stereotype of OCD. This is first time I've heard Pure-O explained and maybe the first time I have ever heard the term in general. I have been going through a lot in the last years and trying to "solve" what's wrong with me. I've come a long way and the greatest truth I've learned is that we are not our thoughts, or rather, they do not control us. Meditation and learning to calm and clear my mind and body has been very powerful. This video is super helpful and gives me a lot more insight into myself and a feeling of support and understanding. Thank you so much!
I have been dealing with this exact problem for years!
Did you seek professional help or worked for it all by yourself?
@esandi6535 I take anxiety medicine. That's all. So really just putting a band aide on a cut that needs to heal from inside out....an example of a rumination...is questioning my past actions or the actions of others. Why, why, why?! Sometimes a memory will pop up from a long long time ago and I will think about that and why didn't I realize then why didn't I heed any of those red flags....all things I can't change now but won't go away inside my brain.
Thank you for watching!😊 any feedback for me about the interview?❤
Thanks for talking about OCD. Many misunderstand what it actually looks like. 😉
Thank you for watching! I’m a big fan of your work 🙏
Hey all, it’s Erica, the guest in this interview! Thank you all for watching and leaving your comments, and thanks Michelle and Psych2Go for having me 🙂This is the first livestream I’ve ever done, so forgive me for anything I’ve left out of the conversation you might find essential to OCD or Pure O. There are just so many layers to this! If you’re struggling with OCD and/or anxiety, please know that you are not alone, and there is a large community and a plethora of resources out there for you to discover. Have a great rest of your week!
This couldn't have came out at a better time ❤ I've only just discovered through therapy that this is a condition I suffer from and have suffered from all of my adult life
I was diagnosed with ocd after my mom died, it was a terrifying and hard time in my life and I was only 13. The information I could find was so limited, most of my knowledge about it came from experience or by talking to others about it (which I rarely did since I felt so embarrassed about it). Thank you both and Erica especially for sharing and advocating for yourself and for all of us in the comments that have found support on here
its distressing to have disgusting morally wrong thoughts ..they are terrifying
Obsession is Thought Process. Compulsion is Action Process towards that thought. Such as Obsessive need for clean hands, then Compulsive action to thoroughly clean hands. The Origin of the thought process (Obsession) is usually a fear or reward of something. The resolution (Compulsion) action is their way of maintaining Control.
Sometimes you just have to let fear or rewards, Go.
It is easier said than done. I also ruminate on awful things and have both positive & negative coping mechanisms.
It is a defense mechanism for Real or Imagined thoughts. It can be debilitating at times. Realize it is OK. You are allowed to have it happen, but learn strategies to better cope if you must break through.

@@Shellie95 Shellie95, Excellent. You demonstrated genuine Compassion, Understanding, & Knowledge.
Sometimes just acknowledging someone's grief is enough to set an individual on a positive pathway.
Please continue your work, it helps so many.
I think I may have pure obsessional OCD, also known as pure O. I haven’t watched the rest of the interview yet but I find that there are times when my intrusive thoughts and compulsions aren’t there as much compared to other worse episodes. Does anyone else have similar experiences of it cycling in the intensity? I used to have a compulsion of washing my hands and now it’s picking my nose because I can’t stop obsessing over the sensory feelings in my nose and it drives me crazy. The majority of my mental compulsions are unrelated to the physical things though, but there’s a huge variety of the beginning of the cycle (the types of intrusive thoughts).
I would let it checked out. Might be pure o or maybe something else.
@@noahstump24 yeah, it’s always best to get it checked out. Although honestly it doesn’t interfere in much ways noticeable to the outside so I’m not sure if it’s worth getting a diagnosis. The nose thing could be sensory related from my autism or some kind of sensory processing disorder.
Erica your thoughtful advice on how to support people with OCD and Pure O has made a significant impact. Your emphasis on patience, empathy, and education has helped dispel misconceptions surrounding these conditions, fostering a more inclusive and understanding environment. Your words have reminded us all of the importance of compassion and the power of acceptance. Thank you for your insights and time.🙏
Thank you for watching! Any feedback for me about the interview? what other topics would you like us to cover?💚
@@Shellie95you're challenging stigma in your interviews, and breaking down barriers to understanding mental health👍
I'm not diagnosed with OCD, but this video is really hitting home for me. Obsessing over intrusive thoughts is a big one for me. Thank you for this!
Thank you for watching!❤😊 any feedback for me or Erica about the interview?💕
This was very informative! I have a type of OCD where it's comparing other things. (I.E. scenarios in stories, certain words in those stories, etc.) Thankfully, MY health OCD/anxiety isn't as bad because if I were to get a cold, even I know I'm going to get better eventually. Yeah, not being able to sleep with your nose all blocked may get annoying, but I know it's going go away in about a week's time. This was a fantastic podcast!
I think I deal with a similar thing. Do you associate meaning or patterns to those comparisons?
@@dellafloyd6323 I think pattern.
I had never considered the possibility of having OCD until I randomly stumbled upon Ericas SBSK interview a few weeks ago. Things suddenly made sense for the first time in my life. I started therapy back in may and my current therapist is the first person that I've talked about my compulsions and intrusive thoughts with. Erica's video had a huge impact on me being able to open up and to get help.
I suffer from generalized anxiety disorder and I haven’t been diagnosed with ocd yet but I’ve had different types of intrusive thoughts since I was in high school. I always thought something was terribly wrong with me until I looked up symptoms to what I’ve been experiencing which helped me feel not so alone.
Thank you for posting this. It helps me understand a little bit more of why i do things so much. The anxiety from it is overwhelming at times.
that was really educational, as always, thank you!
i would be truly grateful if you discuss the topic of maladaptive daydreaming in one of your next livestreams :)
Thank you for watching! Any feedback on the interview?💖
@@Shellie95i liked that Erica shared some insights from her own experience, it’s really valuable to listen not only to experts and therapists but also to people dealing with those issues themselves. thank you for inviting so diverse guests, really appreciate it!

I've suffered greatly with OCD all my life, but this was only the 2nd time of hearing pure O.
Thank you very much of your interviews..
I had some slight ocds and I don’t want to think they were that serious or even slightly serious. But hearing her talk about her experience really pains me and at the same time glad she overcame it.
I love Erica, thank you so much ❤
I’m still confused what the difference is between OCD And OCD Pure O but I had OCD since I was a kid and it started interfering with my life in 1988.
I thought OCD was just OCD without having another disorder.
I got diagnosed in 1989.
I’m much better but I alway’s hated myself, I alway’s compare myself to other’s, where I get jealous, and I do have intrusive thought’s.
I used to cut myself but I stopped. I still have thought’s to do it though.
OCD is still a nightmare to me.
I don't know if i have ocd but i do know i icealate myself a lot i struggle in groups of people especially in certain conversations i know I'm not alone in this it takes a lot for me to get to know someone and trust
It might be social anxiety.
Okay going to the doctor obsessively. Makes sense to me.
i worked out i had this a few yrs ago...its brutal and nobody tells you about the internal chaos

how are you all dealing it with it ??? its frustraiting and pain in my ass doing rituals every day and night for more than 21 years, half of my ages 😢😢😢 plus other problems and fears 😢 the only good thing here is everyting is organized and cleaned 😊
I struggle with this also, especially for the last three years. Have you looked into therapy? I have heard self-help books on OCD can also help. I hope you soon feel less occupied with OCD :)
Can you have OCD over a person your not even with
I have this thing where two parts of me must feel the same thing, like if one hand gets wet, the other BURNS and I shove it in water and it feels fine, I also relate to two of these (the violent horror movie one and the sexual orientation one) but I’ve never been formalized with any OCD nor has anyone questioned it, especially when it’s visible. Some times I move my hand across the top of my phone and I do that with the other, when I scratch one part of my arm I must scratch the other in the same area could this be a type of OCD?
I met a lot of ppl who has OCD. A few were my supervisor and the experience are not very pleasant. My best friend Is an OCD person on neatness. I remember one time i was helping him wash his car. It took us 1/30 min to finish.
I have OCD and I hate it so much 😢
I have an example of ruminations messing with my day-to-day life....I would ruminate until I walked out of work.
Im really thinking i have these issues but im not sure😭 do u mind giving an example of your ruminations
The wires on her headphones
Uuuuuuggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Maybe it is an exercise so she can feel ok having something "not pristine"...I mean, we're kinda watching a video about therapy and help from OCD...right, jimmei92? Am I making sense here?
Good example 👍👍

Haha I usually don’t notice things like that but good to know for next time! It doesn’t bother me but I can see how it can bother someone else

It's just like OCD with the letters are in alphabetical order as they should be 😊😅😂
I know someone who has adhd, ocd and generalize anxiety disorder. But got a new diagonsed condition added to the list. Schofective disorder. But the parnoia delusions , intrusive thoughts this sounds very similar to Pure O 🤔
Hi Erica and Michelle
Hello! Did you enjoy the interview?🌸🌸
yeah very helpful
Please make a video on gender dysphoria also called gender identity disorder 😊
Somebody please I'm having an issue I think I have OCD but my parents won't let me get tested bc they are gonna think it's silly and stupid and they wont understand is there some other way I can find out if I do or would I need parents consent?? Im a minor so I think I have to have parents consent correct?? Someone please help:((
Hey there - I’m sorry you’re going through that! Have you tried talking to your parents directly already? There are some states in the US that DO allow minors to get therapy without consent from their parents - if you are in the US, I would Google your state law first. Talking with a school counselor may also help, as they can maybe act as an intermediary for you and your parents. Lastly, try IOCDF and NOCD for resources related to OCD. Good luck 🙏
@@justsaymaybepodcast Thank you!! The thing is I'm pretty sure they'd call my parents on any issues but I'm currently not in school but I'm guessing they would. But I'll try thank you!! I haven't tried talking to them bc I've seen how they acted towards my sister so I don't want to. I've also checked but I'm too young to get tested alone but thank you for the help.
@@efyuw693 Thank you!! I hope you can soon get the help you need!!
I'm russian and the restrictive male gay thing is actually quite popular subject of jokes here (just about all the bad stuff that happens, we joke about it) - I mean about how it's dramatically tense to even presume that you could be a gay man 😅
Thank you for sharing that! It sounds like it would be extremely anxiety inducing in that case for someone with OCD in that environment to have intrusive thoughts about their sexual orientation, especially for men, based on what you said
Am I the only 1 who's being more focused on her(Erica's ) tangled handsfree than the actual topic of the video😅
