I think that historically, in their collective mentalities, the indomitable people of Ireland had experienced the blues for many centuries before Gallagher. Though of course, he did quite something with it ;)
I asked the blues player what the difference was between Delta and Chicago blues and he explained that Chicago moved indoors and people were drinking and loud so Chicago Blues was electrified kind of like Dylan at Newport sort of scandalous affair
