No, my information is that Labours polling nationally beats the Tories on every component below the headline figure, and that was not something Blair couls boast of. Maybe the raw figures are lower than Blair, but that is only relevant to 1997 not 2024. Stop trying to fuddle with statistics, or you'll be accused of being a tory shill.

  • @davidwright7193

As for verification. I was at a count once where polling district A and polling district B shared a polling station. It took 5 recounts before it was accepted that one more person from district A had put their ballot in box B than vice a versa.
With multiple elections on different ballot papers the first thing you need to do is check that all the papers are in the right box before you start the verification process. Verification won’t do that as someone who puts a paper in the wrong box has probably made the opposite mistake with the second box. Verification only tallies the total number of papers in the box with the number of papers issued so verification won’t catch me putting my mayoral ballot in the council box and my council ballot in the mayoral box.
This is why the papers will be of different colours it is then easy to spot the wrong papers as you don’t have to look at them.
As a party agent verification generally gives you the result as a 2% random sample of the votes (the top vote on a bundle of 50) is often good enough to predict the result. In a local ward it’s +/- 10%, in a constituency it is more like +/- 3%.

We are a laughing stock now, we have our SECOND UNMANDATED PM and the third of this term. The first kicked out for lieing (Partygate etc), the second who crashed the economy including hard working people's pensions & now a man who can't use a credit card or asks a homeless guy if he's in business. He has selective amnesia over things like covid, while signing off contracts for mates, Donor's & family. As for the local elections, last time they "predicted" they would lose around 800 seats, thinking they'd lose around 500/600 so could claim a victory, yet lost over 1,000. Let's hope they lose more than predicted again....
