Sweet. Looking forward to that. I’ve tackled the tones from “DSOTM”- “Animals/ The Wall”, and the live “PULSE” tones, and am fairly satisfied (I modeled my board on an extremely ultra budget friendly version of David’s “PULSE” rig). Now I’m becoming obsessed with the later live tones (“Remember That Night”, “Gdańsk”, and “Pompeii”); in particular the “Comfortably Numb” solos where the high gain Tube Driver was used. It just gives the solo a different flavor.
Hi @mustyguitar What do you mean by saying "check the cards of something"? Would it possible for you to do this exact same videos to get the different tones of David, but with vst Plugins, Amp sims, etc for computer with an orientation about how to set each effect to get something closer to the original tone? Thanks!
Nice playing and tones as always. It's worth giving a mention to the Fuzz Face on the early stuff and Dark Side Of The Moon. Very notable on the Live At Pompeii performance too.
brain damage and eclipse had a rotary and any colour you like had a very early phaser from a not so little thing called the EMS HiFli. it was a synth pedal and how they did on the run, but it also had a phaser on it that was used on any colour you like. the closest you can get is the EHX bad stone or the MXR phase 100 which are both 6 stage phasers just like the hi fli
on the narrow way part 3 there is definatly a leslie and I'm fairly certain it was the first time he ever used a leslie. and there may be one on fearless
That last remark in the end, dear god you gave me a good laugh -maybe because I like collecting plushies lol- Thank you so f much, you’ve done a tremendous work. And your playing is a joy to listen to!
Great stuff and great playing! 1 of David’s great tone tricks is how he used those Boss EQ’s to tweak things. Also between PeteCornish & Phil Taylor, they tweaked pedals& circuits. Also many tube buffers in those pedal boards & stuff. So don’t get too hung on the knob positions - because it might look very different for you.
I’m pretty sure he used a Leslie just before and on DSOTM, and of course different rotating speakers later. I think there’s a cabinet on the the Pompeii footage, and I think you hear it on particularly on the last three tracks on DSOTM. I think I hear it in the 72-73 live shows too, but you’re right, it could be the UniVibe. A good rotary speaker pedal (even something like the affordable Danelectro Big Spender) enhances any Dark Side and after Floyd tone. It just adds something subtle. I think the PowerBoost David used on DSOTM through Animals. I’ve used different overdrives, and although some like the Blues Driver come close, there’s nothing like a PowerBoost, especially for WYWH tones.
Yeah, nothing sounds like colorsound powerboost, ngl it's near impossible to nail it without actually having the pedal. Though, like you said, blues driver is the closest I've heard, a couple of clones of powerboost still is okay but in a bedroom setup, blues driver is the best. I even think it's better than tube driver for colorsound tones...
At what age did you start learning to play guitar? I got an acoustic guitar last Christmas, I'm 39 and feel like it is too late for me. I just want to play like you and Gilmour.
You capture the tones amazingly well. Would love to learn about the signal chain starting with the guitar models - pickups, strings, heck even setup. I prefer the non-EMG Gilmour tones, but you sure capture the DSOT tones as they exist on the record and in concert. And more impressive - you capture the 70s, and 80s tones perfectly *WITH* EMG pickups. Well done!
You know, I tried, I can get a “practice sound” but nothing more unfortunately, I’ve tried guitar rig too and still not my style I guess… I can try to make a video though
just a funny thing I've noticed, all gilmour youtubers are always focused entirely on pulse or entirely on the wall as the main thing. it's just funny. they all either have a strat, yamaha ra200, hiwatts, rams head big muff and electric mistress, or strat with emg's russian big muff, etc you have a fairly balanced mix though where are my dark side of the moon and wish you were here chasers at? I just find it funny
I think the real Pink Floyd is the great 4: Dark Side, WYWH, Animals and The Wall. Rest is still, out of question, some of the best pieces of music, but these 4 define the bands vision and even though I'm a Gilmour-sided Floyd fan, I'm no less fan of Roger Waters as well. What a genius. WHAT, A, GENIUS! Though, for tone wise, I think dark side tones are kinda meh, it's just not much there. After 1976 when he switched to a big muff, that's when tone becomes important for me. Of course WYWH was the reason I play guitar, that's for sure. Thank you for your words, I take that as a compliment
@@mustyguitar I'm really into the subtle nuances of the tones. I love money live 1974 because the tone is just so cool. the overdrive tone he gets by rolling back the volume of a boosted fuzz face is great, then basically getting it completely clean for the jam. wow and of course, shine on has a great tone in the 4 notes bit and the 3rd solo. and I like how in the live 1974/75 he has the rotary, phaser and delay on the whole time, not just the 4 notes bit, which sounds great
that is a tough one... principle is the same though. I'm not sure about that processor, I've heard gt-100 before, but not gt-1, I'm not a fan of either :)
A few questions for you: 1. Should I go chorus or overdrive (both would probably be a boss) for the best variety? 2. What do you recommend for a signal chain? I currently have a compressor, big muff, a few different delay settings on a zoom g3xn I can play with, and a mxr 90 or 95 phaser. I understand that it may differ from album to album but I’m really looking for whatever has the most diverse usage potential.
1. should you get a computer or a fridge? it's the same question, you need to get what you need. if you don't have an overdrive, you need an overdrive first to use a chorus pedal WITH an overdrive :) 2. i don't follow the question, you don't have an overdrive, I recommend you get an overdrive first then, decide what kind of tone you want and build your pedalboard according to that. I'd get a rotary simulator, it can cover a lot more tones than other modulations.
Such a great gitarist. And an only 1 Watt amp? I know we are bedroom players but 1 Watt Laney, come on, is your studio in the bathroom or...? :D Grtz from Belgium ;)

This is great, thankyou, fantastic playing, really captured it all! On the turning away solo, just nailed it, well done.
Is the cable plugged into your head?
He’s got headphones with microphone feed from the amp (it’s really quiet) and the backing track
I’m fucking dead hahaha
Very nice! You are becoming one of the best channels for Pink Floyd guitar.

Hi Mustafa, thanks so much! Take care.
Wow, thank you Tyrion!
oha 1000 tl
Great tones man. David’s sound influenced my playing more than anyone else. My setup certainly reflects iy
Great video, as always! You talk about song "cards", where can we find those?
Damn you Serhat!!!!!
Not sure if anyone has asked this but is there a meaning behind the yellow picking hand band? Lol im intrigued
I was about to ask this lol
You really hit every tone, nice work ;)
The solo on echoes 2016 pompeii is the best tone I’ve ever heard I wish I knew the magic potion!
Gilmour played echoes at that show?
@@brockgan8941 Probably meant Gdansk in 06

Scratch that. It’s never late. I really mean that
He definitely used Leslie’s before Dark Side. Generally they were always mixed lower in live and studio mixes.
Brilliant! Thanks.
Great volume swells too 👌🏻
what is the overdrive and amp you are using?
I use Laney Cub 12r for amp and blues driver for overdrive

Great informative video 👌🏻.. thank you
great video.
Awesome !!!
Bro should I get a Electric Mistress or Univibe for DSOTM and WYWH?
Uni-vibe for Dark Side Of The Moon and Phaser for Wish You Were Here
If you're on a budget, go with phaser.
What pedals did you use for pre-dark side?
JHS Charlie Brown v4
All excellent! Could you help us find some key DG's tones on GarageBand?
You know, I tried, I can get a “practice sound” but nothing more unfortunately, I’ve tried guitar rig too and still not my style I guess… I can try to make a video though

I like the phase 95. anyway. for shine on's third solo, he uses the neck pickup, not a lot of people realise that
I'm %101 sure he switches back and forth but yeah, people only play bridge I guess, you can definitely hear some neck tone too.
Such a great gitarist. And an only 1 Watt amp?

1 watt is still pretty loud. I use the %30 of max volume even with 1 watt.

Where's echoes tone. The echorec is the most amazing thing I've ever heard
What is the yellow band on the hand? Protecting a gland? Or maybe a gift from a fan? Does it make a line when you tan?
