  • Boeing has violated a settlement that allowed the company to avoid criminal prosecution after two deadly crashes involving its 737 Max aircraft, the Justice Department told a federal judge on Tuesday.
It is now up to the Justice Department to decide whether to file charges against the aircraft maker amid increasing scrutiny over the safety of its planes. Prosecutors will tell the court no later than July 7 how they plan to proceed, the Justice Department said.
Boeing reached a $2.5 billion settlement with the Justice Department in January 2021 to avoid prosecution on a single charge of fraud - misleading regulators who approved the 737 Max. Boeing blamed the deception on two relatively low-level employees.
The manufacturing giant came under renewed scrutiny since a door-plug panel blew off a 737 Max jetliner during an Alaska Airlines flight in January. The company is under multiple investigations, and the FBI has told passengers from the flight that they might be victims of a crime.
"We believe that we have honored the terms of that agreement, and look forward to the opportunity to respond to the Department on this issue," Boeing said in a statement. "As we do so, we will engage with the Department with the utmost transparency, as we have throughout the entire term of the agreement, including in response to their questions following the Alaska Airlines 1282 accident.” #Boeing #News #Politics

Hundreds of non American died in foreign countries and the penalty is paying a fine to U.S. government, I don’t understand the logic.

The planes crashed because of untrained pilots btw. Thats why the country that flied the most 737 Max planes (the US) had no incidents.
Btw. Airbus had a plane crash for this exact same reason with everyone on board dying as well.

@@VanquishedAgain Ethiopian flight I know for a fact went down due to the automatized pitch correction thing that they didn't disclose to pilots MCAS, they can't prepare for something they don't know about. No airbus didn't MCAS is a Boeing exclusive gang (actually 737 max exclusive).

The penalty fine is just the beginning; it (the finding against Boeing) widely opens the door for victims' families (from anywhere) to succeed in filing claims against Boeing, in the U.S.
