  • This week I explore how to add Do-It-Yourself wheels to your Gibraltar Gong stands and racks. It's an easy process and can save you a LOT of money.
I've been thinking about doing this for a longtime, just to make it convenient to move things around in my studio where I have 7 different racks set up. Moving them without wheels is a real chore. I went through a few versions of this without the rubber feet that didn't work all that well. Then I came up with this idea that uses the complete rack foot, rubber feet and all, which is incredibly stable.
I used 2" wheels because it's just for here in my studio. If I were to do this for any racks used on stage, I would use larger 3" or 4" wheels because they would easily roll over cables and other small obstacles like carpet edges, different floors, etc.

Sometimes you can find those rectangular furniture dollies on sale for cheaper than the casters would cost by themselves, plus they are already attached to planks. Just need to cut them into two long segments.
