Sure he is on the inside of some dark stuff now and has very powerful people pointing him in the general direction to go but he has the Natural tendency to be the controlling dominant mindset that they want him to be. Again go all the way back and you will see these traits going back to elementary school with this guy. He is a control freak and he DOES want to dominate the peoples lives around him.
