There is no way Kirk is a back-up next year in Atlanta and I'll tell you why: 1. A starting caliber QB like Kirk is not gonna want to sit on the bench 2. He is not gonna want to waste a year of his career 3. There is a huge lack of quality starting QBs in the league and a poor draft 4. Two of Kirk’s former coaches and Kurt Warner easily saw by watching the film what the problem was…the lack of play action and the timing of the offense. Y’all seem to forget Robinson is a first time play caller 5. Kirk didn’t sign with Atlanta because of his wife. He signed because they looked like they were a competent team that was ready to win (boy was he wrong). He has also said that his wife doesn’t care where he plays. 6. Kirk is also an extremely competitive guy. Players talk about getting the bad taste out their mouth after a loss. His situation is that x10. Then add in that he got hurt for the first time in his 13 year career and missed half of last season. Besides that, Kirk has been doubted his whole life and has been proving people wrong for years. So there is NO way Kirk is gonna be happy not starting.

How soon they forget. Cousins was 3rd in the league in yards in a run first offense. He was on a pace to break his own record for receptions by 4 different receivers and break Tarkenton's record for receptions by 5 different receivers. He was the only quarterback in the league to be on a pace to have two 1,000 yard receivers. Kirk faced the toughest defenses of any quarterback in the league this year and still was on a pace to break those records. He played a whopping 30% better than the average quarterback against those 6 elite defenses. Against the 6 teams that had middle of the road defenses he put up Hall of Fame numbers and was even better against the two weak defenses that he faced. The lack of touchdowns was just play calling. you can't throw many touchdowns if you are not allowed to throw in the red zone and only when the defense knows that you have to pass. There are a lot of teams out there that are smarter than the Falcons and would trade more than that for him. He will choose his destination carefully so he does not end up with a totally dysfunctional team again. Oh what could have been this season if the coaches had let Kirk play like they did against Tampa and when they needed the 4th quarter comebacks.

He was actually playing better around the time he was benched. All that being said, Kirk was benched due to poor play and everybody saw it, which is why no team will trade for him. SO....he basically has 4 choices: 1. Hope the Falcons do him a favor and cut him. I say do HIM a favor, because that in no way helps the Falcons financially. OK..they dont pay him an extra 10M...but they then have to sign a backup and pay him 8-10M while STILL having to pay Kirk. 2. He agrees to WHATEVER team is willing to trade for him. Again, as you have said, if no team is willing to trade for him unless they are desperate, it may be his only chance to try to redeem himself. If he refuses, he would essentially be saying that he would rather be the backup there than the starter someplace else. 3. He accepts his role as backup QB. Again, his demotion was not just out of spite. It was performance based, and he had plenty of opportunity to hold on to the starting job this year and next. 4. Retire. Realize that even though he has not FORGOTTEN HOW to play football, his body has declined and he may not be able to play the way he WANTS to. Only he would honestly be able to tell that.
