During the depression, men without jobs worked HARD labor jobs for farmers in exchange for a few scraps of leftovers and maybe a night or two of sleep in a barn. You are aware that Haiti is right next to DR, a Spanish speaking country? Many Haitians also know how to speak French as well due to the history of the country.
They left a lot out of the story but alternative media is giving more info. The family is orginally from Haiti. They left Haiti and moved to Chili, where they lived for a few years. They came to America illegally for handouts. They could have stayed in Chili, but like most illegals, they are economic migrants here for freebies.

This is suspicious. Haitians speak French and Creole. This is Spanish, which is very rarely spoken in Haiti. I guess they could be from near the Dominican border but it’s still quite strange. Anyway calling cooking for this woman an “occupation” is insane. This idea of opening homes up to migrants is a disaster.
Unfortunately, the suspicious part is that you assume Haitians don’t speak Spanish I am Haitian Woman my family speaks, French, Spanish, and Creole.

It’s because DR is a wealthier country than theirs so they probably picked up enough when they seek work or assistance in DR or interact with Dominicans. But theirs is in no way a fluent Spanish. They speaks bits and pieces with a Creole accent. There are more Spanish language interpretors here, so they are leaning on the Spanish they know, but they are obviously not fluent. DR has a huge issue with Haitian migrants too. Dominican Republic has actually done massive deportations of Haitians themselves.

There are Haitian migrants that moved from country to country like Venezuela, Mexico, and DR. So they most likely traveled a lot. I've seen it happen before.

Lots of Haitians speak Spanish because they share the same island with the Dominican Republic. Lots of Haitians speak three languages: English, Spanish and Creole.

Exactly. The thing is that you have not been following the Haitians lately. The new Haitians immigrants now who speak Spanish it's cause for the last couple years many have been emigrated to countries like Mexico, Chili, etc. They have been going to these countries to get to the USA. They stay there for a few years so they learn the language. Some Haitians are so desperate that they even go to Brazil and I even met Haitians speaking Portuguese it's all unreal. Some don't even speak creole the ones that got there when they were young.

They definitely speaking creole their Spanish is not good it’s just enough. They know that there will be Spanish language interpreters here so they’re leaning on the Spanish they know but they barely speak it and they do so with a thick Haitian accent. DR has initiated deportations of Haitians and had to fight off accusations of racism from Americans but it was too much for a country a few times the size of New Hampshire to deal with.
