"Mega Man X4, originally released in Japan as Rockman X4 (ロックマンX4), is a video game developed by Capcom. It is the fourth game in the Mega Man X series and the second game in the series to be released on the Sega Saturn and PlayStation. The two versions were released simultaneously in Japan on August 1, 1997. A North America release followed sometime thereafter, while Europe received only the PlayStation version on October 13, 1997.
Taking place in the 22nd century, the Mega Man X series is set in a society populated by humans and intelligent robots called "Reploids". A military taskforce called the "Maverick Hunters" is implemented to suppress the uprising of "Mavericks", Reploids that begun to exhibit dangerous and destructive behavior. Mega Man X4 follows two such hunters, Mega Man X and Zero, as they become involved in a conflict between the Hunters and a Reploid army called the "Repliforce". Mega Man X4 is an action-platform game in the same vein as other installments in the series. The player completes a set of eight stages in any order while fighting enemies, gaining power-ups, and winning the special weapon of each stage's boss. This is actually false. The game never indicates she was going to die anyway.
It isn't even stated in the Complete Works. This sounds like a manga-only thing.
There was certainly no chance of Zero ever losing either, for two reasons: *1.* The very cutscene we see after Iris is defeated, Zero is shown completely undamaged. *2.* The Complete Works states Zero's character to be utterly _merciless_ when in battle, even against former friends (no matter who they are).

Which explains how Zero would've destroyed her ride-armor's "core" anyway (regardless of whether it's from Colonel or Sigma, as some theorize). Even Sigma himself comments how impressive it was for Zero to destroy Colonel, Iris, and General.

Zero in MMX; unnamed green Maverick Hunter in MMX2; Dr. Doppler (while trying to take the Sigma virus with him) in MMX3; Iris, Colonel, General, Double in MMX4; Zero again in MMX5; Gate, Isoc in MMX6... and so on. They almost killed Axl in MMX8. 🤣

They had to say something in the dub to match the animation lol. Frequently requires the English dub actor to artificially extend things. But still, the voice acting for the English dub in this game was shitbiscuits.

*1st reason:* Zero's voice is terrible, and X's voice is the worst of the game because he sounds like a little kid, the voices of Iris, Double, Colonel, and General are good
*2nd reason:* The japanese version sounds realistic and it makes more emotional the moment of Iris death

I love the amount of detail that went into Iris' fight. When she says "Forgive me Zero". She knows she doesn't want to do this but continues to push through and break her limits. Whenever she says "Okay I'll do it" or "I'll do it for you brother". She only goes on to honor her brother. The tone of her theme is sadness, guilt, and regret. She is only doing this because of her brother and the false fantasy she wants to fufill and stay with Zero forever, but she knows at this point she wont be able to.

But Iris shouldn't deserve it, she is my new favorite now and it's a horrible shame to find out about this even I have not played the game and I was very disappointed when I look up her backstory realizing Mega Man went way too dark in the mid 90's! Thankfully, the devs understand how the fans feel for her so they bring her back in another game that's probably not canon but at least it was better than someone making fanfic lmao.

I ve met this game around 99/2000 at a friends house. One of the most sad deaths to me in the games,for some unknow reason, is the Iris one. Too early and she could have a potential for a good previous role. 2 deaths i lament and feel kinda of pity is hers, and that girl from FFVII, i think shes also Iris, not sure

I don't think Capcom realized how big this game was going to be or they would have spent more money to get really good dubbing.
I think that, by the time it happened, it was something new in the industry; hence they didn't make the right call in the auditions. I need to do some research.
Also... Have you ever heard the dialogues of the original Resident Evil (1996)? That's Capcom all right.
This ws just a common thing in the 90s. Most anime, and Japanese dubs then were terrible.

Say what you want about the voice acting, but the ominous background track for the FMV starting at 2:23 sets the TONE for what's going on! You were expecting a happy-go-lucky MegaMan game where everyone gets out alive (much less the main villain)? Absolutely not. Welcome to the real world. The X series grew up with its audience as we watch dear friends end up on different sides of an ideology predicated by manipulation and villainy...and despite not knowing what he's fighting for...Zero still does.

Well, to be fair, Zero didn't kill her. She died because her control chip was incompatible with Colonel's, which she used to get that Ride Armor (so she would have died even if she took Zero down). She could have just rebuilt Colonel since she had his control chip perfectly intact.
You know this would have been prevented if zero did one thing right before that purple orb went into the air at the last second kicked Iris out of the way of the laser hitting her and that would have solved everything
he also could have severed the Colonel's limbs instead of killing him.

So.... am I the only one that noticed that thing Iris is holding looks EXACTLY like the evil energy orb Bass used to transform in MM8? More still that mech looks ALOT like the evil robot being Duo fought at the intro video in MM8? Plus it explains her death as even being exposed to the stuff second hand nearly killed megaman at the end of MM8. Iris directly infused it into herself, willingly. Kinda gives credance to the belief that the evil energy did indeed survive MM8. Begs a question... where the hell did she get it? Was it a relic found in a dump? or.... did Wily himself give it to her? And why wasn't the mere existence of this a HUGE plot point in the game. This shit is probably what the nightmare virus came from in X5 and X6... and zero was exposed to it when he fought Iris. This should have been addressed hard! I mean Just a drop of that stuff turned iris into war machine!

How do you use saber like that is sick.
It's called Saber Dash Cancel (SDC). Press Square and Circle alternatively. The dash should cancel the saber combo and the saber should cancel the dash and so on.
It seems to me like Iris tried to do a murder/suicide involving Zero. She planned to kill Zero and then herself so they and Colonel could be together in the afterlife.
But they are machines, they don't have afterlife.
