They aren't that good against mayan archers. Despite having attack bonus against archers skirmisher still has less hp and MUCH slower attack rate (~3 seconds compared to ~1.7 for archer with thumb ring). Mayan archers are also cheaper than skirmishers, and with equal resources and slight tactical advantage (like killing few skirms before enemy reacts) they can hold their own.

go try face skirms with arbs then . ;). arbs still suck against skirms, it's just his microing and macroing that cut the edge, he hit literally at every single side of his base

He can attack in multi fronts because he has the number with him. As anti-trash they are so cheap they cost only 200 Woods (with guild). With my own humble experience, I prefer using these cheap arbalest than the two-handed swordman. And go try yourself in a long game with Mayans who did better ? Two-handed swordman (120 woods+60 foods almost) who can be kitting or Arbalest 200 woods who can be micro to avoid losses ? (eagles are not an option they are too expensive ).

The bonus still largely helps, those skirms are powerless, even if they manage to win cost efficiently, they still got raided easily due to obsidian arrows, mayan archers cost reduction also helps by reducing the effect of his bad trades against those skirms
