I'm listening to this in 2020 and after over a decade of music appreciation since Relient K became my favorite band I'm realizing how just well a songwriter Matt Thiessen is.
The guy is a genius, it's crazy. The way he conveys situations and raw emotions through his lyrics are incredible. It's crazy that this was just the cool punk band my dad listened to in the car back in the 2000s on the way to school but now when I go back to re-listen I just can't believe it. These songs still give way to deep reflection to this day, and they all sound fantastic. So good, my favorite band as well.
Back in gradeschool, when I was religious, I listened to a lot of christian rock. I've been an atheist for about 15 years now. I've forgotten every band I used to like back then. Except this one. I still remember the lyrics to all of their old songs, and I still love all of them.
Same here! So not religious anymore (gladly so), but this band will forever have a special place in my life--they had some of the best arrangements, they feel timeless to me.
My friend gave me a burnt Relient K CD back in 2nd grade, but his hand writing was so bad, i didnt know what was written on the disk, so i grew up not knowing who this bad was till just now cuz I googled "Giberish" and it said Rilient K
My kids (now 23 & 26) were raised on Relient K albums and concerts. “What goes into the mind comes out in the life”. I thank God regularly for the guys in Relient K and for M@‘s lyrics going into their ears!
I remember the first time this was on my local radio station. My brother & I geeked out at the news of the new record haha! Always loved the website design/art that accompanied this release, too. Such a great record start to finish!
2024. This record is 20 years old and it hits me just as hard as it did in 2004 when I was in college, along with Mhmm, maybe even harder. I just got divorced and these songs and so many others are a good source of therapy.
@@crazycookie76 The song is called "I Am Understood?". It's a bit odd 'cause it's a statement with a question mark, but this is the official title as you can see in the picture in the video.
such an underrated band!!!

That’s exactly where i am too!!!! Old me honestly had way better taste in and devotion to music because of the pre-spotify compact disc era 💔💔💔

I’m listening to him in 2024, and I’m sad he lost his mojo a long time ago.
Relient K has been the best at those rhythm changes since at LEAST this song. PERIOD.
2:28 these simple lyrics really get to me every time:
"through the times I've faded and you've outlined me again"
I can't hear that part clearly before but I understood the lyrics after reading your comment. I also love that part. It's comforting.
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS, I WAS TODAY YEARS OLD WHEN I LEARNED THAT'S WHAT HE WAS SAYING THERE.
My favorite Relient K song of all time! So underrated.
i wonder if they realize how much good their songs to Jesus have done, totally changed my life no exaggeration at all seriously

It’s amazing that he wrote this about Jesus

If you confess Jesus as Lord and believe He was raised from the dead you will be saved. Romans 10:9
This was posted on my 22nd birthday :)

first RK song i ever listened to! :') is this on vinyl?!!?
It really isn't a good idea to listen to this song while doing schoolwork. You just really can't help but to be absorbed by the lyrics. Hahah!
In addition to the novelty of being a CR band, has anybody else noticed that they're a rare crossover between pop and screamo?
I had forgotten this song. I love the tune of the chorus, although the words are kinda weird.
Shouldn't this song title have a question mark at the end(?) -- "Should you end this song (title) off ... with a question (mark)??
Yes
Nah. I think he's stating confidently that he is understood ("I *Am* Understood!!!"), not asking ("Am I Understood?")

@@AnimationArrow A question mark can also be used to Express uncertainty e.g. doubt.
