- Old Schecter meets new Schecter in the perfect blend of classic and modern guitar. It took years, but Schecter Guitars broke out of their typecast metalcore guy image and have gone on to create some of the most impressive guitars, at a great value, on the market today. With stainless steel extra jumbo frets, a multi-piece neck, locking tuners, ebony fretboard, USA made pickups, and much more... all for a price well under $1000, this Schecter Sunset-6 Extreme is one impressive instrument.

The way that Schecter has evolved their models and designs basically makes them this era's amazing, cool, modern brand that Ibanez was in the 90's
I've been an Ibanez player for years, until 2021, when I acquired my 1st Schecter, a Sun Valley Super Shredder FR S. It has an EMG Retroactive pickup in the bridge position, and a Sustainiac in the neck.
I _LOOOOVE_ that guitar! It has a thick, snarling tone with a really balanced tonal spectrum. Best of all the guitar itself, as well as the hardware like tuners and pickups and wood and general construction are of high quality. The Floyd double locking whammy bar system is of far greater quality than those 'licensed by Floyd Rose' rigs you find on other guitars. This Floyd stays in tune, plus the bar assembly will stay as loose or tight as you want it without slipping.
The success of the Super Shredder led to another Schecter, a C1 FR S. This one has a EMG 81 pickup in the bridge & the
'I- will-never-be-
without-one-again' Sustainiac.
I love this one too.
It's tuned down a whole step to D, while the Super Shredder is also dropped a whole step but with the low E string dropped to low C.
These guitars handle the low tunings amazingly well, & both have incredible tone.
Point is, I'm a convert to Schecter and now, Max, you hadda go and whip this new Schecter^^^out and proceed to make me want one!😅 I think I'm gonna get one, that is if they offer it with a whammy bar setup (preferably a Floyd, but a nonlocking tailpiece with Locking tuners and a graphite bridge would be awesome.
So now i gotta go check the new Schecter guitars out. Sigh. A guitarist's desire to have lots of guitars never really goes away, does it?
Schecter has really stepped up their game. I owned a C1 Elite from 2006 and yes super glossy baseball bat neck and abalone everywhere! Also had the Jeff Loomis signature and that neck was fat too. Right now I own an SLS C7, Tao 7 and SLS Evil Twin Bass. Phenomenal instruments for the price. Super fast to play, great tuning stability and great tonal options. Hard to beat Schecter for the money. Looking to get a 6 string from them and this one might be it!
Fully agree older ones with thick necks weren’t for me the quality was always solid but now the new ones are perfect in every way
Never heard MAX sounding so good with any guitar
Got a synyster gates custom S, theres a reason he chose schecter- that guitar is fantastic, it feels and sounds great while having a ton of features though consequently is a bit heavier than my jackson but its totally fine. love schecter, dont have a clue as to how anyone even looks at gibson as a 4 figure guitar any more
Just purchased my first Schecter last week, the V1 Custom. Absolutely phenomenal value! Puts Gibson to shame
Good choice!
I'd love for Schecter to give this model a single coil in the neck like the Triad and I hope they give the Sunset more exciting colors like trans bright blue or pink
Totally agree about the need for more colours. The Sunset body shape is ideal for any kind of finish but the Triad only comes in black. Imagine how brutal it would look in bloodburst!
I had my Dad pick up the Nick Johnston HSS when he was looking for a stratocaster around $1,000. He had it plek'd at Sweetwater and absolutely loves it. He complains about the Fender Strats now when we go to Guitar Center. It's a great guitar and plays perfectly. It even holds tune with my heavy handed riffing and bends. All that to say, Schecter is fantastic, as is this guitar. Excellent review and playing my friend!
My buddy and bandmate was in the same situation a couple years ago. He doesn’t follow gear much or know much about features but, damn that guitar is a no brainer for someone looking for a shred strat and does not want to work on it themselves. I showed it to him and he couldn’t put it down, I tried to tell him to hold off until we went to another place to check some other guitars but, by the next practice he had it 😂
I bought the same guitar in atomic snow (mint green pickguard). I will never go back to F's or G's.
I LOVE MY SCHECTER . . .🎸
Hi Adam . Hope you're doing well . Could you please explain to me what Plek'd is ?
Thanks 🎸
@@RikJSmith I know you asked him direct but, I just saw the notification and thought I’d chime in. It’s just a way to level frets that utilizes a computer to physically measure the height of each fret. This can theoretically get you the most even frets possible which would mean you can drop your action to lower levels with little to no buzz (if the rest of the setup is done correctly of course).
@@JosePineda-jn8jk Thank you . Well , I guess I won't be doing that because it would require the Nut Slots to be lowered , which would in turn require the Saddle Nuts to also be
lowered . I'm quite happy with the way my Action is now . Thank you for Chiming in and explaining to me Plek'd . Have a great day .
I love the fact that you introduce a lot of nice bargain guitars to us, but it also makes the quality level of guitars like this Schecter so much more obvious. This thing ROCKS.
cool t-shirt! The lancaster was one of my favorite planes growing up!
Between the simplicity of the controls and that great looking finish that's just a pretty fantastic guitar
I love my Schecter Omen V. I bought it back in 2009, on sale for $199. I got so much for my money! It came with passive EMG's, satin black finish, smooth fast satin finish neck, with the falling bat inlay. After fourteen years, it sounds spectacular, holds tuning, and has never needed any adjustment. I've played the hell out of, even fell on it, and it just keeps going.
I have the schecter dj ashba signature. And I love it. Looks sounds and plays excellent. I still play it every day.
Terrific playing on the intro. We can tell you've been putting the time in keeping the skills sharp.
Interesting, I think I might get one of these if I can get it for a good price
Schecter is my favorite. I have 3 of them. It's really best value, you get premium instrument for not a very premium price. My favorite is my 2011 Blackjack ATX with Blackout humbuckers and Ebony fretboard. Nothing can beat it for me so far, it's still a beast and my absolute favorite after 13 years.
aged white or satin black?
@@deadbyplay638 if you are asking about my Blackjack ATX, it's some kind of dark red, don't remember the name of the exact color
@@MrDeepzek oh, this is rare version without thunder on 12th fret. Nice guitar. I had a black matte one and gloss white. Gloss white was with strange fat neck. But black was nice.
@@deadbyplay638 it has a thunder on 12th fret. Yeah they didn't sell that many guitars with Blackouts in them I think
@@deadbyplay638 it's just like the black one but in vampire red satin
I've got a 2013 Indonesian C-shaped Omen-6 and a fresh 2023 Korean Avenger Apocalypse. Both have some minor issues, but in general I really like them both and they are one of those I grab to play most of the time. Really enjoy all the modern things they push to the industry. I also consider Schecters as one of the best in overall aesthetics among mass produced metal-oriented guitars.
That's a Beautiful Guitar 🎸🎶🎶🎶 Thanks for sharing 🎸🎶
Thank you too!
I've always been in love with the earlier Ibanez RG Series.. and especially Brian "Head" Welchs RG7's ( and others alike ) from the late 90s - mid 2000's but never could drop that kind of money because I didn't think I had the skills or time to be worthy of it... Sooo... I have found myself with some of that same love for the Schecters.. my C-1 Plat is awesome and I love the HellRaiser Hybrids!. For some reason... I felt like they would play the same... sound the same... feel the same-ish... or but IDk because I've never held a RG or even a 7-string for that matter. 🤷♂ 🤷♂
I'm really impressed with my SVSS Exotic. It was setup really well and there were no flaws in the build.
And yeah, I really like the new direction they've taken their brand. I could never get on board with the over the top gaudy abalone barf aesthetics of the mid 2000's bro metal schecters (although the tempest had a much more subdued pinstripe classy look).
I think the SVSS is out-Charvel'ing Charvel. Mine plays and sounds better than my MIM San Dimas and the Floyd 1500 is just a bit better than the 1000 on the Charvels as well (though neither are anywhere near as good as the Gotoh 1996T on both of the guitars at this point)
I think these new Schecters are great competition to the PRS SE's and LTD's. Definitely a great time to be a budget-minded musician not just for guitars but for gear like the Katana amps, Tone X pedals, some of the Helix stuff, etc. The quality of sound was just unthinkable back in the mid/late 90's when I was a broke young guitar player.
I own 2 schecters, a c1 platinum and the c1 platinum FRS. Both phenomenal guitars! I got them both on sale at guitar center the regular c1 platinum cost me 499 and the FRS cost me 699. I love scheter to death! Those 2 guitars are equipped with banger specs and pickups, sound truly amazing and feel incredible to play on! I have played so many guitars in my life but no other brand out there delivers the same experience as schecter imo, my next guitar will be the Synyster gates custom s
I have omen 6 and the schecter triad 6 that I have in rotations you can say I’m a Schecter guy
Thank you for talking about the neck. People don't do that enough for my taste. Let's face it, we play guitar necks, so it's important to talk about.
Hi Max ! Somehow I'm just seeing this Video now . Your Playing and Tone in this Video is PERFECT !!! Thanks for putting this Video together for all of us . I'm quite sure I can convince the Wife that this will be my next Guitar . I hope you're doing well and staying safe . Cheers Dude !! 🎸
I have a Sun Valley Super Shredder it's one of the best guitars I own it's the only guitar with a Floyd rose that I can actually get strat bluesy tones on and rock and Metal. The pickups actually surprised me they sound fantastic I normally don't like active pickups but these sounds great
I have two Schecter Omen 6's (one tuned to drop-D, and one tuned to C-standard), an Omen 7, an Omen 5 bass, and a Revenger 7-string (modified with a single-locking Floyd Rose). Suffice to say, I love Schecters. My holy grail is to find some of the old Stratocaster copies they made in the early '80s like the ones Mark Knopfler used in Dire Straits.
I do think you're just slightly off the mark about the company's focus though - yes, they've been popular with the gothic and industrial rock and metal scene, but they've also been championed by a diverse range... Abbath, Type O Negative, Filter, Papa Roach, Prince, Suicidal Tendencies, Stone Temple Pilots, Body Count, The Cure, Danzig, Avenged Sevenfold, etc. All over the place from black metal and metalcore to punk to funk, rock, rap, etc.
They're a solid company because of their diversity, versatility, and great customer interaction and support. Even their lower quality guitars have been great to play and record with, and they're fairly easy to mod with minimal fuss.
I too have a cool Schecter. It's a C-1 Elite in a transparent amber finish. It sports a flamed maple neck, a mahogany body with a QUILT maple top, and for several years it was the best-playing guitar I owned. I have many more guitars now than I had when I got that axe, yet it remains one of my very favorites. Schecter rocked in 2003, when that baby was made, although I can't say much about them now. If I was in the market for another guitar, Schecter wouldn't have to work hard to make my short list!
I asked a guitar shop salesperson to help me find a musician priced backup to match an RR5. He pulled a Schecter C-1 down and it was incredible. I’m retired many (!) years now, but I still tell young players, “go with a schecter”. I’ll refer them to this video when I want them to know why.
Neck thru models of schecters play better than LP’s IMHO.
I love Schecter, Ive own three Hellraiser Extremes and a few diamond series in the past, excellent guitars through and through and 100% the best bang for your buck out there. Not sure im digging the color on this one but everything else is exactly what would want on a guitar and very affordable too, a no brainer really.
At least it’s this guitar and not the controversial MGK razor blade guitar 😮💨
Just bought a shelter greT for shredding also have 4 fenders
Pinstripe Tophat look = perfect explanation of the reason why I haven’t bought a Schecter yet
I also like that the 7 string version is 27" rather than 26.5".
And someone was paying attention and moved the volume farther away
Its like a bolt on KM MKII for cheaper. Awesome. I've had Schecters since like 2006, and they're amazing, but the body styles were always super uncomfortable. The blockiness of the body always dug into my forearm after hours of playing. When I saw the KM-7 MKII I fell in love, because finally it had a bevel along the top of the guitar. And now alot of their guitars have a similar shape, or they're just thinner overall.
I own a Schecter Sun Valley super shredder and Schecter Diamond Series with fixed bridge. I’ve never had buyers remorse buying a Schecter. These beat my PRS and fenders hands down. On par with my old Carvin bolt T.
PRS Mike Mushok baritone 6 string is to this day one of the best baritone and bargain buys for a guitar. Cost about $700 brand new when it came out. It plays just as good as guitars that cost thousands of dollars. I'm not kidding.
thats not a razor blade!!!
I'm picking up my shecter tommorow I also have 2 Californian fenders and a Mexican
I bought the Schecter HSS Nick Johnston a couple years ago, and love it. It’s Strat tones are as Stratty as any Fender I’ve heard, but it’s so much more than that. You can’t get a Fender with the same specs at ANY price. It’s got both modern and classic vibes at the same time. It’s a killer alternative to a Fender Strat.
thanks for mentioning cost early in the video So we know what to compare it with 👍
I’m a long time schecter fan. Going to be ordering the Damien multi 7 here soon
Nice work Max have an old omen with emg’s that’s pretty nasty
I don't know about their early 2000s guitars, but if they were anything like their 2004-2008 then I would argue the necks weren't thick/fat at all. I used to have a 2004 C-1 Classic, a 2005 C-1 Elite. I still have a 2008 C-1 Hellraiser FR and a 2011 J-L7 FR. They all have thin necks and it was the 2004 C-1 Classic that got me into Schecter because of their thin necks. Then again, that was the first time when I first heard and saw them at Guitar Center back then. You're not wrong about the glossy finish. Though, I still love them for that. I don't like satin finish guitars because the satin wears off. It's happened to my JL-7 shortly after I bought. Satin looks nice, but it eventually becomes shiny in the areas you rub your arms, hands and fingers. Not a fan of that.
If I were to buy any modern Schecter today, it would be a Banshee Mach or GT, or a Solo II Custom. If I were to go a little back, I would pick up a Reaper.
Man! It sounds great... Really chugging! Love it thanks Max
I went to guitar center and tried out a schecter the exclusive one to guitar center the crimson black and it sounded good cause the pickups but the action was so high and the guitar felt so lite, like it was a toy.
nicely put together review. ty for your effort.
i like that they dont put volume near the strings
Looks a lot like my Keith merrow model
In New Zealand it's 1800 but on special 1200 shecterwas a guitar repair company
My next guitar will absolutely be a Schecter.
SCHECTERS WITH THIN NECKS! 🎉🎉🎉
Killer guitar. Still not as cool as your signature hb though, that things got it all
Had a 2017 solo6 hellraiser extreme which just didn't gel with but have just purchased c6 pro charcoal burst hard tail 🤞🤞🤞
Great review Max, as always! Is that a P38 Lightning model over your right shoulder?
I just bought SGR /C1 at a local pawn ... We're talking 500$ guitar... For 130 ... I love lil heavy ... But the neck it's so comfortable.. All most like a bass neck ... Iam the guy with the stubby hand s ... And say comfortable I mean getting cords to sound clear .. Iam trying to learn so I bought a Donner DMT 100 . A good guitar but the neck seems like it belongs on a bango ... But just feel link I am learning more on my Schecter I am sure once I learn the Donner will fit in ...Now for my Firefly LP GREEN BAT.
Sounds excellent! When you do a video like this how do you get the direct guitar tone? I'm a bit old school and not familiar with how to personally put these kind of videos together. I'd greatly appreciate any feedback.
So it’s basically a copy of a Kiesel Aries.
It's missing a string but it sounds good.
i need it in all black
Schecter has been trying to do this for a while. Note the Banshee and Miles Dmitri Baker and Keith Merrow influences. But I'm a Schecter Hellraiser boy all the way, though. Their Korea supplier is just rock solid. I have a V-1 and LP style and am seeking out more.
On this one I like the 1 volume knob/no tone. Not a fan of the pastel colours they're offering.
I own this now, the neck dive is horrible, great guitar but I have a better idea on where they should have made and put the strap button! or at the very least put after the neck like an sg.
I love my PT Hybrid
I own 3 schecter guitars I like them alot if the sunset had a floyd I would own 4
Hi there, It was emphasized this is a metal guitar a few times, but with no tone button could it be used for blues/blues rock? Maybe with an EQ in the FX loop and the amp gain cut back? It's almost impossible to find another left handed Schecter or PRS with SS frets at this price point. The SVSS Exotic with similar pickups is $500 more in Canada, and the Solo II Custom has nickle frets and is actually more expensive than the sunset-6.
In Germany this costs 1300 Euros
I got 1,shekk. Its an old black, jack series flying vee with black outs. I play it more than my gibby lp or ibby rg prestige. Though a narshall vintage modern its got all i need for heavy netal rhythm guitar. Mabey i need to eye ball schecter a little more
In the near future my guitar will need to have new frets. Ive owned it four years and the frets dont look too bad. I have no idea how much refretting a guitar costs.
For that price it should have a floyd...
Can this also do Ichika nito single coil cleans exceptionally well? Can it do it or?
I recently bought a Schecter Omen Extreme as my first guitar and I'm loving it. The action is low and fast and the sound is amazing. My only gripe is that it came from Schecter with some raised frets that I now have to hammer down. Other than that, I couldn't be happier.
My biggest problem w/ Schecter is their quality control (on their modern gutiars). I have been playing Schecter for about 15 years and have owned nearly 20 of them. The models 2012 ish and older have amazing quality control and are flawless. Every single 'newer' schecter (2019ish and up), the quality control has been absolute dog shit. For this reason I am switching over to ESP now
Totally agree man, crazy how they’re sister brands but completely different QC on their guitars
I have the E-1 FR S and I love it. But I must say that I dont have a lot of use for a FR, so maybe i should look into switching with this new Sunset-6 with a hard bridge.
How would you compare both?
sound wise good... my God look at the match in middle of rando wood - no thanks - paint that thing
I think schecter is a unrated guitar, fantastic guitars for the money
as a ibanez fan, schecter may as well be my favorite guitars, especially for floyd rose guitars with sustainiacs. ive got a c-7 apocalypse fr/s and a c-1 hellraiser fr, and a c-1 platinum fr/s that i just had the floyd removed and replaced since it was a special series floyd. also had a killswitch installed. the apocalypse is by far the best one i own. since i started guitar a little over 2 years ago ive basically stuck with only floyds. ive got a gretsch g5222 duo and an 8 string multiscale legator. i barely touch those guitars sadly.
idk if anyone else feels this way, but schecters made in house pickups sound better than my emg and sustainiac, which were my favorite until i got my c-7. that bridge pickup is the best, i almost never use bridge pickups. infact i only use it on that and the legator 8 string.
can't go wrong with a schecter umless it is that new MGK razor blade one lol!
Cool guitar, pickup selector is a 100% no go for me though
This one or Reaper-6?
Schecter rulzs! Long live the razor blade guitar!
Well. Looks like Schecter does spiky guitars visually better than Ibanez.
Got my MM100 MITCHELL CUTOUT BROO I LOVE IT!!! TOTALLY WORTH THE 108$ SHIP N HANDLING WAS FREE
Love schecter's well not that new MGK garbage but whaddaya gunnado
What's your favorite quite to play or use
Why do guitar companies make guitars with no tone control?
Ok
Guitarra muito linda ❤
Only comes in grey??
Red too
Waited 2.5 years for schecter to say they no longer make the model i ordered in left handed...
Proally wont buy another one.
Beautyfull guitar ❤❤❤
Without a Floyd tremolo...it has no sense to me
1st
2nd 😮
Is this an Ibanez RG killer? I was looking at an RG, but none of them have the specs this Schecter has. You have to buy a Prestige Ibanez to get away from plastic nuts.
The Ibanez RG631 ALF and the Ibanez JBBM30 have similar specs, but cost much more, and don't have stainless frets.
People asking for play dragonforce.
Pfffft.. I’d rather buy a Monsoon & save some bread.
Cheap version of Apocalypse C-1
Made in China or Indonesia?
Schecter evolved into Ibanez😅
ibanez puts volume and blade switch near the strings the ultimate cringe lords ill buy a schecter
Another guitar without finish lol
I honestly thought the whole point of this video was a budget Schecter. I have a pair of C1s, and love them... BUT I could not imagine paying 900 bucks for the one you are holding.
I'd say it sounds great... but you could make a stringed soup can sound great.
