    The MGB really is the perfect affordable classic car: relatively inexpensive to buy and maintain, most replacement parts still available brand new, and it looks beautiful. I am the very happy owner of a 1963 pull-handle MGB Roadster.

    Some of us think that MGB's are great. I'm a 20 year owner of a B GT Sebring race car replica, and my mate owns the one in this film. We asked the question - is the MGB the perfect classic? @9Yz4

    Is it road legal or just like Aston Martin DB4 GT and Jaguar XKSS you can just keep it in the garage?

    • @Scrubworks
      @Scrubworks 5 лет назад +1

      Nope, it's road legal. There's a company out there that makes brand new bodyshells for these cars, so what they do is take an original MGB and rebuild it onto the new bodyshell with the new engine and such. That way you can keep the original chassis number and registration plates. It's all legal as long as you tell the government that you've fully rebuilt the car, and they then class it as a "reconstructed classic".

    you can buy an old one for a few grand. Spend 20k on it to make it much better than this, bit strange to put a mazda engine in it and not something better.

    Buy an old one
    Put a big block in-line 4 or a v6 or a v8
    If you really want it
    Upgrade the suspension or put a porsche suspension
    Then its better
    Why buy a car that is an mx-5 with an mgb body shell just buy an mx-5 then
    And you can do all this with less than the mgb-mx5 combo

      Most cars should be limited to about 120 mph not by law but by just design. And they should be focused on the driving experience rather than just brute raw speed.
      Even the Jaguar E type that could do 150 mph was never driven at that speed on the roads apart from a test drive on the motorway.

    Mustang sold 607,000 in one year
    Corvette 2 million
    Camaro 6 million
    Mustang 10 million
    Just sayin.

    WHY bhp/BRAKING HORSE POWER/AND NOT php/PULLING HORSE POWER/?

    • @seekerSteele
      @seekerSteele 6 лет назад

      Did pulling HP mean Wheel HP or Torque? If you meant Wheel HP, then my two cents is that BHP is preferred because it's the raw power the engine delivers not taking into account the wasted power as it travels from the engine to the wheels.

    • @984francis
      @984francis 6 лет назад +1

      The term brake horsepower comes from the full term for a dynamometer that is brake-dynamometer.. The brake is arrange to resist the torque developed by the engine (whether at the flywheel or the wheels) and the torque that it takes to prevent the brake from revolving is measured (force at end of the torque or moment arm, times length of the arm from the centre of revolution). The power is equal to 2pi times the revs per second times the torque. In SI units that's Newton.meter/Second = Watts. Divide by 746 and you have the horse power developed on the brake. In the world of railway locomotives, your pulling horsepower shows up as drawbar horsepower (BDHP).
      The brake can take the form of a hydraulic motor forcing fluid through an orifice or a generator or alternator forcing current through an electrical resistance. Either way, it takes a torque to prevent the brake from rotating and rather than mounting the whole thing solid, it is free to rotate within limits and held by a torque arm having some form of load measurement device at the end. The electrical type can be mounted solid and the power measured as volts times amps = watts however there will be losses due to the generator heating that are not readily accounted for this way.

      Thank you.The term brake horsepower (bhp) refers to a device called 'Prony Brake' (invented by Gaspard de Prony), which was used to measure engine power in the early 1900s. Brake horsepower (bhp) is the measure of an engine's before loss in power caused by gearbox, alternator, differential, water pump, and other auxiliary components such as steering muffled exhaust system, etc

    • @bradyfilm
      @bradyfilm 6 лет назад

      Wow, 984francis is talking about trains (god knows why) and wellwisher is an idiot and has it backwards BHP is the hp measured at the wheels after driveline loss as opposed to hp measured at the crank.

    • @lipozor
      @lipozor 6 лет назад

      I wouldn't discus your family heritage ,personal culture and education specially as we discussing in a public domain some technical issue
      However,I'm sure you can learn a more by reading such a content and evolve from your cave
      Brake horsepower (bhp) is the measure of an engine's before loss in power caused by gearbox, alternator, differential, water pump, and other auxiliary components such as steering muffled exhaust system, etc
      In the US, car's HP is rated at SAE net so as to give a true value of HP available at the crankshaft. SAE net is the HP output of the engine after the alternator, water-pump, power steering, etc., are added to the vehicle. Automotive manufacturers used to use SAE gross, which is BHP equivalent. This gave a misrepresentation of what the owner could expect from the vehicle as far as performance. This all came about during the HP wars of the 60's and 70's.

    I stopped watching Fifth gear when they started doing the stupid talking heads to the side of the camera and explaining what you'd just seen, the silly sound effects, the jump cuts, the frantic editing...
    it hasn't change and it's still as infantile as it used to be...There is a gap in the market for a proper, entertaining, uncontrived and unpretentious car show instead of all this shite...TG, Grand Tour and this are all ludicrous..At least Clarkson's obnoxiousness is funny.

    The MGB was never developed properly Mazda tried to buy them out in the 70,s but MG wouldn’t allow them to use the badge. Why would anyone pay 62000 for this retro car when you could buy a Porsche or Nissan or Mustang for much less.

      Ricardo Ellison so?

      American cars have to be built in such high numbers because they are mostly scrapped in a very short time.

    • @AndieBlack13
      @AndieBlack13 6 лет назад

      MegAndJas There are still untold thousands of these old Mustangs prowling the streets of America...not driven as much of course, so as not to devalue their worth...wanna have a daily driver?, commute 200Km a day?, drive a cheap Toyota.
      At an average current price of $20K for a plain-jane 65, a Mustang is an outstanding value. Stock and uprated parts are plentiful & cheap...so much so as Chinese industry is making parts as well.
      How many 50+ year-old cars exist whereby heavy Chinese industries are cranking out replacement parts purely out of a desire to make their cars the best possible? The little MGs were pathetically underpowered...& overweight due to the inexperience building uni-bodies & the use of 16 gauge sheet-metal.

    • @CarWhiz22
      @CarWhiz22 6 лет назад +4

      dude the majority of us are here to appreciate the mg & not your shitty mustang. no one cares so take ur bullshit comments somewhere else

    • @AndieBlack13
      @AndieBlack13 6 лет назад

      CarWhiz22 I do appreciate the MG line of sports-cars, but when Tiff declares "one of THE most successful sports-cars ever made...", & then cites the production numbers as "evidence" of that claim....it just doesn't hold water.
      I have driven both the MGB convertible & a Midget....& I found them wanting...more power, better handling...perhaps it was that stupid American spec thing and MGs decision to add body spacers to "jack it up"...ruined everything...an MG needs to be down on the tarmac...
      In much the same vein, I've wanted to drop a Honda F20 engine in the likes of an Alfa GTV2000...to try and wake up its potential...floating the idea had all the purists enraged.
