Thanks dude. It's stupid that a tiny piece of plastic can be the difference between something that works and something that doesn't, but you've found a way to bypass that issue. You have saved at least 334 people, if not 7000 people, the cost of a brand new pair of m50xs.
There is a replacement part that you can get if you know how to solder :) But you of course have to write to them AND need to be able to fix them yourself. :)
I googled this problem and found people telling me I needed to drill a hole? I'm not trying to bust out the power tools, I want the fastest and laziest possible solution and THIS is it. It took me about 3 minutes of total time including watching this video to fix this problem with a zip tie I had lying around. Great video!
Thank you so much for this amazingly simple but SUPER EFFICIENT fix. I just did this to my son's ATH-M50X, which had BOTH sides broken. Sorted it out for him with a couple of zip ties and gave it back to him... the utter joy in his face was cause for celebration! Salamat po sa pagtulong niyo sa akin! Pagpalain ka nawa ng Diyos!
Bro, you are a life saver! I had come across this method before when trying to see if there were any "hax" that I could use to temp fix them until I can give my pair a full service... and I had tried this before, but I did not manage to do it 100% right - what I noticed from your vid, is that you criss-crossed and wrapped your your zip-tie around the hinge, which previously I had just used to two zip-ties without crisis crossing them. Makes such a difference!! Many thanks to you
wooowwww wtf this worked, holy shit. just get a normal zip tie. you'll notice theres two different holes he inserts it into. I can't believe this solved it instantly, I was about to pay for a 20 dollar replacement headset on ali express based on another video. You are awesome, thank you.
Incredible fix! Cheap, accessible and if you get a cable tie with the same color as the headphones it is impossible to see. Saved me buying new headphones! Thank you sharing this fix so that everyone can use it!
Thank you, wrapping the tie twice around the hinge helps it stay in place much more securely, I tried wrapping it around only once before and it didn't work, but then I stumbled upon this video.
Absolute legend! such a simple fix. For those attempting at home: Make sure to get 2.5 mm or smaller cable ties! Will definitely hold up until I get round to doing a full fix once I have the parts
Thank you, it worked! For anyone else trying this make sure to get 2.5x150(or longer)mm zipties, anything thicker than 2.5 won't work and anything shorter than about 150 won't work either. Once again, thank you so much!
Thank you - had exactly the same problem but not skilled enough to perform a more technical fix, but one black cable tie and three seconds later! Perfect for me!
Man, thanks for the tip! I've worn mine for like 5 years. One side was broken a while ago, but somehow I kept on working on them 😂. Yesterday both sides were broken so I was looking through different solutions, and your solution is I think the easiest, cheapest and most effective 🎉 God bless you, brother
Man seriously thank you so much. I've been trying to find out a good solution to fix this annoying issue. Almost thought my just fine headset was gone. I'm glad I found this.
After using my LE Dark Green M50x for many years, its hinges snapped a few days ago. I found this small piece of hard plastic on my desk and didn't want to throw it away because I knew it came from my stuff. I found out it's the hinges, and I'm so freaking disappointed. I'm glad I found this video to be the ultimate lifehack.
I was super skeptical that this would work at all. Even before putting the headset on my head I was ready to be disappointed, BUT it worked. So if there are any skeptical people out there like I was, just give it a try. Worked wonders and now I don't have to buy a new headset. Thanks a ton. With all the money you saved people you deserve a sub, haha.
My boy! I have legit had these m30's for over 10 years and doing this on the one side made it feel so much better I did it on the unbroken side too. Thanks
Omg. Okay so I just got my first pair of dj headphones, the ath-m50x second hand delivered and I was having a bad day so I was excited to get them to cheer me up... and the hinge was broken and I burst into tears. This video absolutely helped me and was comforting to me too, thank you SO much, what a simple solution, I already have some white cable ties to match my white headphones 😊 thanks so much you have saved my sanity 😂
I found a pair of mx50's in the free bin and once they sounded amazing other than the broken hindge and leaky sound pads, I tried 3D printing like 7 diffrent things to fix this and spent at least an hour googling and a humble zip tie that took 30 seconds to find and install makes these things basically brand new. Thanks so much for sharing!
Aug 2024 - Another set saved. Original ATH-m50, so already a 10+ year old pair. Thank you so much. This is a really elegant solution. When you start looking at the construction, the between the top of the headphone and hinge gets smaller as you open the headphones up. This puts just enough material in the gap to stop it opening too wide. But it also means you can still close the headphones up to fit in the drawstring bag. So all upside.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, crazy how well this works. For those wondering about the size, some people here said a 2.5 mm works best but the ones I found near my place were too short, so I used a 3.5 and while it was a little harder to push through the slits they worked perfectly.
ABSOLUTE LEGEND. It works!!!! A better view of the process and some explanation could have helped make the steps easier/faster to follow, but the solution is indeed so simple that it's easy to figure it out with the information that is provided. Thank you for making the video short, sweet and to-the-point without any time-wasting. And more so, you've saved a lot of people money; and saved the environment from a bunch of e-waste. Thank you!
It was a little difficult to do at first - make sure to find the sweet spot to insert the tie-wrap (mine was on the middle left), and make sure you're on the correct side. Flip the tie-wrap upside down if it seems difficult to do. (The -waves- should face upwards, in my case) Btw, note that doing this will make it even worse until you finish it. Mine wasn't as bad as the video, but once I started the procedure, it did what it does in the video. Once finished, its perfect. Another side note: The repaired side will barely huge inwards after that, so if you plan on transporting them inside the pouch, its something to consider. Works perfectly.
Thank you so much! You are definitely an absolute legend! It works! I fixed two pairs in a few seconds! 7(!) dollar for 10 (edit: 30!) stripes. I recently had to buy a new (used) pair because of the hinges (now I've got three pairs that I can use). People are selling some kind of plastic things to fix the hinges, and they want quite a lot of money for it. I would gladly pay you 5 dollar for putting your solution out here. Superb earphones, but the hinges are terrible. Now I just need to buy new pads.
thank you for this video! this perfectly works for me :) just bear in mind, to consider thinner cable ties. the ones sold in my area are abit thicker so i had to use the 3mmx100mm ones. i used 2 of them (to extend the length) and complete the same loop as your video for this fix.
Genius bro! Unfortunately the swivel on my M40x broke completely, so wasn't possible to use this trick. But now that i switched to M50s, I think I'll do this preemptively!
Nice! I will try this later. So annoying that this literally happened to my headset the 2nd day of owning it.. Its obviously a common problem judging by the amount of posts on this video, so its a shame the company don't want/can't fix it. Poor build quaility, but the sound is pretty good.

this just happened to me.... I wish there was more elegant solution, but this will do!
I have the same issue with my M40x. Unfortunetly, most of the cable ties I tried are too thick for inserting in. Can you tell me how thick is the tie you have used here?
This worked too well haha. I managed to break the hinge on the other side while fixing the first broken hinge, added another zip-tie to the other side and voila it works!
We have those nylon cable ties around the house and i have been using paper which is folded a few times to tighten the hinges ahahahah glad i found this vid.
Thanks for saving me $150, due to a 1 cent piece of plastic breaking. I can't stand planned obsolescence. Audio Technica made a pair of headphones with incredible sound, that gets ruined by a cheap piece of plastic breaking.
Thanks dude. It's stupid that a tiny piece of plastic can be the difference between something that works and something that doesn't, but you've found a way to bypass that issue. You have saved at least 334 people, if not 7000 people, the cost of a brand new pair of m50xs.
They haven't fixed this catastrophic design flaw in a decade too I broke mine in 2014 on the same headphones.
There is a replacement part that you can get if you know how to solder :)

Glad that it helped.. consider subscribing 😊 God bless

WOW!!!!!! I cannot believe this works... but it does. I fixed my Audio-Technicas for basically 0,99 euros. THANKS A MILLION FOR THIS VIDEO!
If I could leave 10,000 likes, I would. This has saved me from months of annoyance!! THANK YOU!!

I was ready to get my micro screwdriver, but decided to RUclips it first. Glad I did. Even happier I found your solution.
Man seriously thank you so much. I've been trying to find out a good solution to fix this annoying issue. Almost thought my just fine headset was gone. I'm glad I found this.
Fixed my M50xs with this trick. You're such a hero for this, man.
After using my LE Dark Green M50x for many years, its hinges snapped a few days ago. That's brilliant! This fix was very easy to apply and saved my old trustworthy headphones form being replaced.
I am shocked at the simplicity and how well they turned out!

Thank you for the video! The trick works with my broken device too. Saved my day, man!
Thanks! Been wearing a beanie over my headphones for 1-2 months and a 30 second trip from my house for 2 cents I'm back to being operational.
You saved my headphones! You're a genius!
Thank you! You saved my precious heart, wallet and music career all the same time!
Dude, you are a genius. I just broke the hinge on mine. Gotta find some cable ties lol
Amazing, figured I was gonna have to buy new headphones, instead I got it fixed with something I had lying around. Thank you.

It also work for other headphones! Thanks to you I've "fixed" Odio hinge! This is soooo brilliant!
Wish I'd seen this before I threw out my first pair. But you saved my second pair. Can't thank you enough, you are awesome :)
fantastic little fix, thanks a bunch! saved me the trouble of getting it repaired or paying someone to 3d print parts for it

It worked! If i pull hard they will still go sideways but you have to go out of your way to do that. Thank you very much!! very nice and easy solution

Thanks man this worked great on my M50s appreciate the cheap and effective solution to this common problem
Absolutely genius, this saved my m50x headphones. Thank you!
Great fix . Audio Technica should sponsor this video. Thanks.
Genius bro! Unfortunately the swivel on my M40x broke completely, so wasn't possible to use this trick. But now that i switched to M50s, I think I'll do this preemptively!
Thanks you very much! Great solution. But would it be possible to change the whole frame? I've seen they sell those parts
At first I was like, how is this going to work, but it works so great!! Thanks for this :)
Thank you so much for the simple way to fix that troublesome hinge!!
Thank you so much! I have an old pair with loose hinges so I did this to both sides. Worked perfectly and they feel good as new on the head.
You just saved me 120 bucks. Thank you, brother!
Wow, I don't even understand how it works, but it works. THANK YOU! And I was duct aping and bending metal and struggling for months.
This man is a lifesaver! All hail the RUclips Hivemind!

Easy, cheap and the best of all, it works! Thank you so much!
Such an easy fix, thanks for sharing this method!
thanks a lot, I have loved these headphones for 2 years and I would've hated to replace them over a small piece of plastic breaking
You're an absolute genius thank you so much!!!

Thank you 😊
Thank you, it worked PERFECTLY
Sir - you are a damn hero!! Thank you so much
Saved me! Thanks! Greetings from Romania❤😘
Saved me $200, thank you!
I have the same issue with my M40x. Unfortunetly, most of the cable ties I tried are too thick for inserting in. Can you tell me how thick is the tie you have used here?
Bless you man, you saved me $300
Omy god , so glad i didnt throw my m50x away, i can try this now! Thankyou so much sir. !

Works perfectly! Thank you, kind sir, for sharing this tip!
Welcome 😊
thank you sir! you saved my ATH-M50X
This worked too well haha. I managed to break the hinge on the other side while fixing the first broken hinge, added another zip-tie to the other side and voila it works!
It's not like a brand new headband, but it does the job very well, thanks
You my friend are a life saver!
🙏
Thank you so much! Life saver. Absolute legend!
We have those nylon cable ties around the house and i have been using paper which is folded a few times to tighten the hinges ahahahah glad i found this vid.
This is awesome. Thank you so much, my man!
DUDE, this worked so well!!!!
Life changing hack right here OMG THE RELIEFFFFFF ON MY EAR THANK YOUUUUUUUUU
Amazing. Now they fit perfect. Thanks so much!!!😊
Thanks for saving my 50x, cant believe fully functional headphones can become unusuable because of a trashy piece of plastic
Thanks for saving me $150, due to a 1 cent piece of plastic breaking.
I can't stand planned obsolescence. Audio Technica made a pair of headphones with incredible sound, that gets ruined by a cheap piece of plastic breaking.
Legit, wearing them covered in duck tape atm to hold it in place.
Total lifesaver, rummaging the house now for zip ties!
