OG way of thinking is always wanting to not miss out on their children's labor, to pay them back.
Thank you for teaching the other OGs to change their way of thinking.

Finally an OG that is living the American way. Agree with your perspective; you’re happier, your children are happier when each have their own space to make their own choices. Plus, that’s what being a grandparent is all about; you enjoy your grandkids and give them back to their parents when you’re done. Makes for an overall good experience for everyone.

Ua lub neej tsi pom tom ntej. Hnub no koj lub zog khov kho ces koj muab nyiaj coj los nplawm rau sawvdaws saib. It's all about your money. Tos koj laus, kev mob nkeeg los caum cuag. Tej zaum koj yuav txo hwjchim.
Peb ua neeg nyob, taws tsau tsi pom tom ntej. Txoj kev hlub thiaj yuav nyob mus li. Yus yeej txhawb yus tej minyuam kom ua neej khov kho. Lawv Tej minyuam los yus yeej pab tu. Thaum yus tseem taus yus yeej nyob yus, but Tej minyuam yeej yuav coj yus thaum yus tsis taus.

I’m totally agree 100 percent what your husband and you are doing and teaching your kids to be independent…we live in a different world and time…we don’t need our kids to care for us anymore…we have to enjoy our lives together and be happy what we have…👍🤠!!!

I am not there yet but for the most part, I believe this is the way of the future. This is the way of being American. The Americans had been here for centuries and they already know and have been and is doing exactly what you are saying. Thanks for sharing your story.

I agree with this 100%. My husband and I talked about this all the time. I also cannot wait for all my kids to grow up and move out. This is why we are okay with only having one son. I just don't think I can live with my kids. I also wanna enjoy my retirement and not babysit al day long. We don't even have my inlaws watch our kids.

Very wise words of wisdom to your children and good morals and teaching. A very American normal family. God bless that you do not enforce the Hmong ways especially the old ways. Great parenting

The advice in this story is good but only to an extent. This advice is coming from someone who has a husband and money. Most single mothers living with this expensive economy, it's hard to live alone without the support or our children.

Honestly I don’t count on our children to care for me too. I try to stay healthy and don’t live too old. I think people who live too old is not good luck but bad karma to live too old to burden our children

All these "inspirational" stories now are just "here's what a good hmong husband does" or "here's what a good hmong wife does" or "here's what good hmong parents do." I prefer
listening to the stories about family and friends helping someone get through a tough period in life. Those were really inspirational.

Raws li koj hais hauv Nov, ntuj los qhuas koj vim ntuj coj tus niam ntxawm thiab kwv tuaj rau koj qhuab qhia. Koj tus txiv cov lus los qhuas koj koj cov lus los qhuas koj, tub nyab los qhuas koj, niam ntxawm thiab kwv los qhuas, ntuj los qhuas koj. Cia lawv mam tuaj hais lawv rau peb hnov mas thiaj yog inspiring story. Koj rov qhuas koj xwb ces tsis yog inspiring story.

I like your story, that’s the way I planned to be when I’m older. Told my child I’m saving so that when I can’t take care of myself. I want to go live in a assistant home or senior home. I don’t want to be a burden to my child.

We all can talk but will never understand old age until we get there. Only those who are there are qualified to give advice. Homecare/nursing home is extremely expensive so save a lot. The best gift you can give your kids is not to be a burden on them financially or otherwise. Prioritize retirement over giving kids cars, college, etc. Otherwise, most of us will end up being burdens on our kids. State nursing homes are horrible. Beware.
