    Sheep Fans! In this weeks video I am at Craig Wilson LTD (Ayr Livestock Market) to purchase some rams to put with my North Country Cheviot ewes.
    I was needing 2-3 Traditional Blue Faced Leicester's but I'm working to a tight budget.
    Enjoy the video and please take the time to comment and let me know what you thinks.
    Appreciate the support.

    ABOUT ME
    I’m 30 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland. That’s why I have such a strong accent!! I was born and raised in sheep with my dad being a shepherd on an Ayrshire farm.
    At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep.
    I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could keep my hand in. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 600 ewes.
    I can now shear over 10,000 sheep a season in UK and I also travel to Norway for shearing in March and September.
    A few years ago I bought myself a sheep scanner and have been building up my run since then.
    I watched a few farm vlogs on RUclips and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
    Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

We just buy aged Suffolk rams for around 300 euro for letting out with our texel cross ewes. No bother with them they tip well. The blues very prone to pneumonia and need more care than other breeds. Mostly crossing types let out here with lanark ewes for breeding mule lambs. Waiting for next video. Thanks.

    • @TheSheepGame
      @TheSheepGame  3 года назад

      A mule sheep is a cross between two sheep most commonly the Scottish black face as the mother and Blue Face Leicester as the father or the Swaledale as the mother and Blue Face Leicester as the Father although there are a few different variations across the country, hope this helps Randolph.

    Very cheap rams Cammy 👏 Great seeing a mart video to compare it to over here. That's a nice bfl/texel ram you got, sweet bit of a sheep; im letting a few of my ewe lambs to ours this year. That texel with the lugs down is like a dog 🤣but looks to be a fine bloody sheep 👍I always find rams a bit hit and miss some cracking sheep mighten breed aswell as a middlen looking one 🤷‍♂️ do you keep track of the rams to ewes, to get an idea of how they are breeding for the first year?

  • @99037149
    @99037149 3 года назад

    Good video. Can't say I like the look of those types of sheep compared to a nice blackface or cheviot tup but I am fairly biased with what I like. Do you ever keep a tup lamb? We quite like keeping 1 or 2 just to see if they turn out and a are worth keeping.

    • @TheSheepGame
      @TheSheepGame  3 года назад

      I wouldn’t know what a good cheviot looked like so no point in me keeping any tup lambs. I put a cheviot over them last year so have some ewe lambs for gimmering. Better to put them to blue though and just buy in cheviots. My ground is too good to be breeding pures.

    How are the different sheep breeds wool different? Does each breed’s wool get used differently? What makes each type of wool unique?
