      Thanks so much man! I had a really fun time making this one. It's such a fascinating lock! My only regret is that I couldn't gut it.

    I didn't know that a lock like this exists - very cool. Thank you a lot for taking the time to make this enjoyable video and explaining everything so nicely.

      Thanks Potti! When I first saw one of these in Mac's collection, I had to have one.

    Fichet make beautiful locks and safe locks . I think they must have alien designing these locks because they so complex's. Another great vid. Thanks man.

      They sure do! I can't even imagine a way to pick this thing. I do wish I was a fly on the wall when whoever designed it was trying to sell the idea to Fichet, LOL.

    That is a crazy lock with a mental key! I reckon that's as close as you can get to pick proof.... thanks for sharing it.

      I really wish I was a fly on the wall when whoever designed it was trying to sell the idea to Fichet, LOL. I'm guessing he had to explain it a bunch of times.

      hehe, I can imagine that there was a fair amount of blank stares accompanied by "Can you explain that again please?" :)

    Awesome.. all the way an all round awesome lock and than how smooth that thing operates once its key is inserted.. I imagine that that 'click' it makes when its key is pressed forward when it is being used, is a very satisfactory aspect to it in real life as well ~ apart from the fact it most likely is one of the very few truly unpickable locks that exist on this little planet of ours ?

    Great video! I have Fichet 450, if you could source one I bet that would make a great picking video. I'm still looking for a F3D for my collection but your right they are hard to come by.

    • @tumbl3r
      @tumbl3r  7 лет назад +1

      A 450 was available when I bought this one. Sadly, extra funds for it were not available :(

    There are 11000000 key variations but since the rotation is fixed in its orientation doesn't that give only 6x6x6 possible position combinations for picking?

    About tittle end name.
    There're 3 companies that make locks. All make hi sec strange lock. One is called Fichet-Bauche another another Point Fort Fichet(ASSA Abloy) last FBH Fichet. It's look like some strange buying part of company end renaming. Whatever happened that there are 3(4) Fichets, they all seem to work independently, have own development programs end locks.
    Also there is Fichet Serrurerie Bâtiment(ASSA Abloy) that make doors(sold under/with Point Fort Fichet).
    So this lock would be Point Fort Fichet ASSA Abloy F3D.
    Because it's kinda strange with multiple Fichets. If You know something more end I'm wrong I would like to be corrected.

    There is a reason why fichet stays far from europrofile cylibders. And that is their inherent weakness in its conception with a very weak center point prone to snapping which forces you to use a defender. But even the defender has weak spots so newer types of defenders are constantly coming out. The pump lock in question here escapes from all that crap. I use a fichet 787z on my door and never looked back.

    It is a very complicated mechanism, especially when you buy the door and the lock

    I bet they can be barrel snapped week spot in the point where u screw the lock into the door ?

    • @douro20
      @douro20 7 лет назад

      Not likely due to the way the mounting works. They often have a hardened estucheon around the whole thing which would have to be removed first, plus the lock mounts into a steel cradle which is part of the door. These are very high end locks, as are the doors to which they are designed to be mounted. They are not for the average homeowner.

  • @Kurazaybo

    finally a video about the F3d! thank you.
    But why is the inner lock shorter?

    • @NigelTolley
      @NigelTolley 7 лет назад

      kurazaybo Because the armoured door is thicker on the outside than the inside. It takes longer to drill through more door to get to the mechanism. The inside is easier to attack, but there you go with trade-offs - even here, on very fancy expensive security doors, you don't want it so thick it is too heavy for the wall!

    Awesome video. Haven't talked to you in awhile. I'll send an email when I get a chance still would like to set up something. Don't know if you've seen my video on the Mauer DT1 SKG. Not as difficult as I thought it would be but still fun. Oh I got the DP but want to get it on camera. I know it's been done but I just want to do it, lol.

    Don't these cost over 1000 Euro? I do know it is one of the most expensive residential door looks in the world. I believe the keys are ground rather than milled because of the extremely tight tolerances and highly complex geometry.

    Howdy. Looks like some pretty cool stuff. I'm not sure how to get involved with trading locks and whatnot but I'd like to throw my hat in the ring. I'm fairly new to picking, but I love it and would love to start making some connections. I'm K1 Locks. I have a few vids in the Tube if you care to check out. Thanks for your time...

    • @tumbl3r
      @tumbl3r  8 лет назад +1

      I'd suggest buying large lots of locks on eBay and then reaching out to people to trade. People in this hobby tend to be very generous, so plan to spend some money on things you'll just be giving away. You'll quickly find that you have plenty of locks coming your way too.

      Michael said he first learned of it in 2008. I suspect that was pretty close to when Fichet came out with it.
