    This would mean Grey-Wind's head being sewn onto Robb Stark's body in mockery of a fallen king is foreshadowing for Jon's merging with Ghost, ascending into demi-godhood. Robb can be the Lord of Winterfell but Jon will be Lord of Winter.

      Robb's skull is currently moonlighting as the noggin of Ser Robert Strong. When Catelyn claims Robb's remains after the Red Wedding 2.0 (which will kind of suck, since Daven seemed alright, for a Lannister), she will need to use Grey Wind's head for Rob's, for lack of an alternative.
      Which is to say, Robb Zombie will be a wolf-man. Or something. And something to do with the Ghost of High Heart, or something

    It’s at a point where I want Jon to do all the things because the show shut him down so hard at the end . I need lightbringer in his hands, I need rhaegal as his steed, I’m talkin full wolfman personality, badass resurrection and revenge sequence, king of the north, a dozen legendary green knights for him to lead into the heart of winter, and a duel between he and the night king for the fate of mankind. I want the true shamanistic warrior who walks away from it all and wanders like a nomad when his work is finished.

    My favourite part about Jon trying to kill Alliser in the books is that he was so damn quick, Thorne couldn't have stopped him. It was only his friends reacting fast enough and with all of them that stopped Jon. In the show they get him immediately, and despite that Thorne could have defended himself from his position.

  • @vorborinov4054
    @vorborinov4054 3 года назад +53

    Re: Jon's superstrength - did I miss mention of the scene when Jon lifts Alliser Thorne off the floor by the throat? From ASOS 2, quote: "My lord is wise." Ser Alliser seized Jon by the arm. Jon yanked away and grabbed the knight by the throat with such ferocity that he lifted him off the floor."
    Apologies to LML if this was cited, I was tired from work listening to the pod cast, so I may have missed it, but I thought that one was quite significant, I find it incredible that there are folks out there still arguing that Jon is not Azor Ahai & isn't a Targaryen heir.
    Another detail that is lost in the fandom, re: Jon's eventual resurrection - this will be Azhor Ahai's rebirth in "salt & smoke", I've noticed many fans confused about salt & smoke & where the salt will come from in Jon's resurrection. Well salt & smoke means "blood & fire", or, if you prefer, fire & blood. So in Targ parlance, it is Azhor Ahai will be reborn in fire & blood. Somewhere in the books, there is a reference for salt being a metaphor for blood, if anyone is really interested, I'll find exactly where that reference is. But I think that is significant, because it is not difficult to see how at the Wall, with what is going on there, how Jon will be resurrected in fire & blood.

    A very interesting Video! My first Idea of Lady Stoneheart was actually that she is a reference to Hel, and the Brotherhood without Banners ar the "wilde Jagd" (the wild hunt), a concept about Hel and her companions riding through the stormy nights between Christmas and New Year.
    And Brienne as a form of transitioning Frigga, as she is opposite of Hel.

    Jon's hair going white would make him like Elric of Melnibone, but also like Simon of Memory, Sorrow & Thorn, or "Snowlock" as he is dubbed when a lock of his hair turns white. Simon also has dead parents (mom in childbirth), a dwarfish companion, a claim to the throne, has visions with birds and wolves, etc. All these likenesses are clearly deliberate on George Martin's part.

    So I noticed a couple things worth pointing out. 1) Draugr if you look up the etymology means deceiver. And if you look up the etymology of Dragon, it means serpent, of course, but in Greek, serpent means deceiver. So Draugr, meaning battle revenant is quite similar to Dragon. 2) Fun fact: Heimdallr, the original watcher on the wall, was "born of nine mothers, too. So, another case of the number nine. 3) This is from the show, but I always thought it was cool that Sansa stands in her black bird feather cloak on the battleground outside Winterfell choosing Ramsey as the slain. She says something like "You will die here, tonight" to him. And if something similar happens in the books, perhaps it will be fake Arya, Jeyne Pool, saying it to him, instead. Not that anyone wants Ramsey to wind up in Valhalla, but still an interesting parallel to Norse Myth. Lastly, I really enjoyed this one, or three actually. Good content. Can't wait for the Arya video.

    Poetic inspiration and battle fury? Sounds like Odinn would be a fan of mosh-pits.
    Also, the Swedish word for wolf, varg, is actually a noa-name, i.e a word replacement used out of fear of the true name. It was believed that if you used its true name, ulv (which shares the same linguistic roots as the English word wolf) then the wolf would come for you.
    Your videos are awesome LmL and it's amazing to find new meaning in all these myths and asoiaf.

    • @karlh5066
      @karlh5066 3 года назад +3

    • @imokin86
      @imokin86 3 года назад +1

      The name Ulf, and many other given names with the -ulf element, show that this word was also seen as powerful and capable of bestowing good qualities in a person, not just dangerous. And there is no traditional human name Varg in Scandinavia. So varg can also be seen as an enemy, a bad wolf. The old Norse "vargr í veum", wolf in the sacred ground, was a name for the outlaw status.

      In my honest opinion, I think his wife will be Sansa Stark. Not only her black attire in the show told me this, but the parallels in the book. I also believe that "Winterfell" or the North is a metaphor for the underworld.
      Sansa's direwolf is dead but I think Sansa has been in and out of the weirwood net through her dead wolf Lady. "The bones remember."
      Lady's bones is buried in Winterfell. Sansa is definitely Persephone and Jon Snow is Hades/Pluto.

      Alucard's character design can go back and forth, depending on iteration; in some, he has platinum blond hair. In others, he has outright white hair (and in his earliest iterations, looks nothing like his post SOTN incarnations). Though never with red eyes, oddly enough. In any case, I'm sure Elric played a hand in inspiring Alucard's character design - though it does seem a bit trite to completely lay said character design at the feet of Elric of Melnibone. I'm sure European mythology contains its fair share of white-haired heroes if one looks hard enough. The same is probably true for other cultures as well.

But he is also somewhat amalgamated with Odin into Bloodraven, Bran & especially John. ( He could see the furthest into time & space & was Loki's sworn enemy. He was The Watcher, The Guardian of The Rainbow Bridge & Asgard. Please tell?

    potpourri kind of comment about this video
    Do you think it's possible that "Mormont's raven" is old? Mayhaps it was once called "Bloodraven's raven"? He was lord commander only 50 years ago.
    Tangentially related, the succession of Lord Commander has gone Bloodraven, Lord Qorgyle, Jeor Mormont, Jon Snow. You mentioned bear and wolf symbolism with the latter two. I know you like to look at the house standards and families for relationships. Anything we can learn from Lord Qorgyle's heritage, maybe apply it to Odin somehow? Three black scorpions on a field of red (illustration showed it as round, red sun?), they're from Dorne.
    One of the ranger heads on a spike. He might be 👉↕️👈 more than just besties with another night's watch guy. I'm pretty sure his partner had a violent reaction and had to be restrained by multiple men. (It's been a while since I read this.)
    As always, praise Garth. 🙏🔥🌳

    Loved this trilogy, need to rewatch them all together. In this video, I like the parallel of Jon's berserker rage, i.e. his wolf side, with Dany's occasional rage, i.e. her dragon side.
    A question about Jon's resurrection: when Beric is resurrected, he loses a bit of his soul every time. But Beric didn't have an animal to park his soul in. Do you think that will make a difference with regards to this 'diminishing' that seems to happen after a resurrection?

    Very cool. Another instance where Jon uses superhuman reflexes (although not necessarily an angry blood-fury, but this is arguable) is in ASOS when he escapes from the Magnar and his men near the Queen's Tower after Ygritte kills the old man.
    A bolt of lightning hits one of the Thenns, Summer appears and starts killing them, and Jon slices through them and mounts a horse while unsaddled with his sword drawn- a remarkable feat that Jon ponders, remembering it as a blur and wondering how he was capable of it. To paraphrase Jon, he said in his inner-monologue, something the line of "the old gods are with me."
    It certainly seemed that way to me when I read the book. The "gods" were with Jon. It seemed like more than a series of coincidences and quick thinking- it seemed like magic and fate.
    I can't wait to see where Jon's story goes in TWOW. Your vids (and re-reading the series) are holding me together until then.
    You have the best Channel when it comes to ASOIAF lore and I'm enjoying sorting through them and finding interesting theories and sharing your ideas. Keep it up man, loving the new videos and streams. Good luck and thanks for the hard work. Keep it up man!
