I dismissed Slipknot for years, thinking I didn't really like them. Then a few years ago, I heard this song for the first time and I realised the only reason I didn't love them was because I hadn't been listening closely enough. These guys are masters of mood. They really know what they're doing when it comes to creating an atmosphere and building tension. So glad I finally gave them the chance they deserved. I'm a huge supporter now. Gusti Stalin cardiff - stone sour overlord - Lamb of god purity / gentle or killers are quiet - Slipknot low lands - gojira floods - pantera porcelain heart - opeth
As much as i love every other song on this album, this song is my favorite. I love how slow, dark, and emotional this song is. Its got such a creepy atmosphere to it. And Corey's vocal performance is one of his best. This song may even be my favorite song in Slipknot's discography.
If you have this one as your favorite in all of Slipknot's discography, then I suppose you're from the newest generations of fans. That's a good song, but it hardly compares to their best phases.
I absolutely adore this song, you can feel the heart of the band in this track...absolutely amazing. They reallly did pull off a very nice album this time around, i've found myself listening to it over and over because i keep finding elements that i didn't hear before. I've been listening to slipknot since i was 14 years old. So that means i was 14 when the self titled album came out in 1999-2000 somewhere around there. Anyway, I like the direction they are going and I'm proud to say im 28 years old and STILL loving this fucking band, i can't say the same for other bands i listened to at the age of 14, so kudos to slipknot for keeping me entertained all these years :)
Man it makes me feel old that this band has been around this long. It seems like only yesterday their self titled came out. If you younger guys could have been there to see how they changed things. No one was doing what they were then. No disrespect intended. I remember hearing them when they first started and being completely enthralled with everything that was Slipknot. Corey's vocal style and lyrics, the riffs, the aggression of it all and how I related to it. Brings back such memories of times and friends long gone. Imo this is the best album they have released since Iowa. Just makes me wonder what they might sound like if Paul was still involved. RIP
I think the start of this album (XIX) and the end fits so well to The Gray Chapter, It feels like the beginning of a journey (they want to do this together with you) with an ending that tells you that it's not over, there's still a long way to go to recover. You can really feel the panic, the anger, the sadness, the stress trough the whole album and I find that absolutely amazing. Amazing album for Paul.
Not having a funeral. Told my daughter to burn my ass, then when she's ready, have a bonfire for family and friends, a few drinks, and listen to my music. This song is on the list.
This song is like lighting a match and burning every memory you have of your life, from the most happiest of times to the lowest points of your life, you are now at the lowest that you have ever been in your entire life. The friends that once cared for you are now bitter enemies, your family that you have once looked upon are now leaving you aside one by one, and the only way to stay sane is if you purposely forget they all ever existed, like as I said about lighting a match. You burn all those loving pictures in your head, and all you can really do is fucking watch.

to think that a bank can be this fucking heavy and still make great acoustic songs shows the level of talent here. one of the greatest bands of this generation
Craig Jones has a song writing credit for this song (along with Corey and Jim) I wonder what lyrics he provided. Seems like he had a lot to do with the intro but I wonder if that was what gave him the credit
Song writing doesn't necessarily means lyrics, it's also about the instruments. Unless you're specifically talking about lyrics in this case then don't mind me lol
+Omar Diaz oh cool I'll definatly check it out!! Thanks for the heads up!! Just saw them Friday Corey is alive and well he was beating his chest and screaming without the mic...it was AWESOME!! Dude was back to his old self!! Can't wait to see what the next few years brings!!
I hear a EVP device in the beginning. An EVP being a device used by ghost hunters in order to talk to ghost. Now since ghosts don’t have an actual voice the voice in the beginning is the voice used
Nah man, that's the Hawking voice. I take care of a dude that's paralyzed except for a few fingers and head movement, and he can't talk. He uses a machine that sounds identically to that in order to communicate. Went to HS with a kid that used the same device, they're common for people that can't express themselves verbally.
I enjoy the living Hell out of their music. they always ignite the fire of my volition. giving the best music to inspire my "fuck it" and "fuck you" attitude.

In the end
Can we face it?

Can we really die?

All you have to do is close your eyes
Just close your eyes

Is there any chance in Hell?

Do we see it?
Is it really there?
If rain is what you want

The only thing deeper than my last breath
The only thing darker than my last death
Is the panic, the static
I've come back from the dead
For my solace
We'll never sleep again
In these diamonds
We’re left with colored glass
As pressure takes its toll
We will outlast
But you can’t break my heart
As long as I can be myself
I’ll never fall apart
And you can’t take me in
If I’m not broken, break me down
So I will never feel alone again

This song is so amazing. I love the part from 2:42-3:38. Can't stop listening it over and over again. Gives me goosebumps every time.
corey's voice is unique ready for the new album that 2019 comes heavy \m/
It came.....so did I.
If only I could hug music. This song would have my strong embrace.
coreys vocals from 4:09 that part gives me goosebumps all the time, its so awesome
Same
So dark..
That's why we love it......
+Bryce Niedjelski yess
I don't advice smoking a joint to this
+LULZ COFEH I took an 8th of shrooms to the original tattered and torn from mfkr. How is a joint harmful?
Jason newsted is darker because of his jaw.
I really think metal is largely misunderstood. Within it lies creativity, artistry, rage, sorrow, and truth. Just like life.
Probably the best song on the album. can't get enough of 3:36
Wish they perform this song live on their tour. As long as I can be myself I'll never fall apart. Damn I love this song.
His voice is so attractive
im so glad my girlfriend got me addicted to this band ive been listening to so much of corey taylor in just over a year and a half. i listen to them daily whether it be stone sour or slipknot or a feature corey taylor is in i adore it
i told her i didnt like em and she sat me down and put me in my place by showing so many songs that i just got hooked
My favourite song of slipknot 🥹
true😎
i feel this is the beauty of darkness. a sculpture in the dark.
What an underrated f****** masterpiece
We don't look for old songs, we look for the memories they carry.
This and killpop are my favorite slipknot songs and they're so slept on, it makes me so sad I can never expect either to be played live. Nothing gets me fucked up for a pr is that rift man

It’s so good thoooooo
Killpop is definitely not slept on, my dude.
Currently listening to this very loudly on my sound bar.... It's Magical 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
Started listening to Slipknot when I was 12yrs old now I'm 27 and still listening to them ❤️❤️🖤🖤❤️❤️🖤🖤 #MAGGOTLIFEEE
The only deeper than my last breath....is my love for Slipknot..😍😍😲
for me, the best closer track of all their discography, i cant explain what this song makes me feel. Maybe one of the most underrated tracks too, a truly masterpiece. and like someone in comments said, listening this in the rain is a premium experience
This song is a masterpiece I just can't get over how amazing the lyrics and guitar works are everything clicks together
to think that a bank can be this fucking heavy and still make great acoustic songs shows the level of talent here. one of the greatest bands of this generation
I swear they put more effort into their music than anyone else 🔥🔥🔥
Craig Jones has a song writing credit for this song (along with Corey and Jim) I wonder what lyrics he provided. Seems like he had a lot to do with the intro but I wonder if that was what gave him the credit
He probably wrote the distorded vocals in the intro or even "sang" it. Everything's possible
Song writing doesn't necessarily means lyrics, it's also about the instruments. Unless you're specifically talking about lyrics in this case then don't mind me lol
If doesn't matter if you prefer Black, trash, doom, heavy or death, we all love Slipknot
They all deserve credit for the song
My favorite song.

So you're a good human.
This song has actually inspired, in part, a graphic novel I am currently writing about the fall of a Kingdom. My Cities Will Never Sleep Again...
Have you finished it ?
My very best friend died Dec 21st of 2016 and he loved this song. Rock in peace my dark soul DS4L... Gone but never forgotten
Rest in peace, I hope you coped well
Hope they play it one day
Love It. Reminds me of songs like Gently or Iowa. Slow and Dark.
Gently is not slow or dark.
@@slipknotmfkrlocust8843 dude it's both and absolutely amazing. One of their oldest and best tracks
im not talking about the iowa version, im talking about the mfkr version
SlipknotMFKR well fuck you that version sucks
Wish they would attempt this live!!
You can sort of hear Jim playing the main riff of this song at the end of "Sic" from Download 2015
+Omar Diaz ቸቸጸጀ መ መ
He did too in the end of the set in Rock Am Ring in the same year, probably a ritual.
Slipknot for life
Underrated by a mile.
My favorite song on this album.
The Drums and Vocals really hit home for me in this song
thats metal with dramatic emotions, Gray chapter is a Masterpiece
THIS IS A SONG SLIPKNOT SHOULD BE PROUD OF
"But You Can’t Break My Heart" sad true
I hope someday they will play this live 😌
I hear a EVP device in the beginning. An EVP being a device used by ghost hunters in order to talk to ghost. Now since ghosts don’t have an actual voice the voice in the beginning is the voice used
Nah man, that's the Hawking voice. I take care of a dude that's paralyzed except for a few fingers and head movement, and he can't talk. He uses a machine that sounds identically to that in order to communicate. Went to HS with a kid that used the same device, they're common for people that can't express themselves verbally.
Jack, i am with you on this one, i was thinking the exact thing as you was with the EVP.
@@amandaphillips6015 nah, it's just the Hawking voice, like I said in my reply to Jack
And at the very end of the song it says "Paul"
Slipknot is the best cure for depression ever
saved me
Slipknot is one of the only bands where they have made constant consistent successful albums, there wasn’t a single album I didn’t think was good.
This song leaves me thinking everytime. a closing chapter to an unforgettable book... RIP PAUL 😪
I enjoy the living Hell out of their music. they always ignite the fire of my volition. giving the best music to inspire my "fuck it" and "fuck you" attitude.
