    as a business owner everything nic d is talking about is stuff you learn building a biz from the ground up. wild to see it applies everywhere.

    Man this is exactly what I needed to see. Mad inspiring to see an artist doing incredible; not only independently, but also married with kids, not in his 20’s. Anything is possible with determination

    As a girl who was tired of the Bs, in the “biz”. Tired of bad deals, tired of crap I don’t have time for. I also wasn’t considered “authentic
    “ because I was always interested in the new ways of surfing through music. I love it that much.
    I fled from NYC, LA & Nashville to an island. Set my studio up at first inside my car, 12 years later I own a house down here and play live, test my songs in person on real people, watch their faces, see what works. Caught a lot of “$#%!?” For it, but I’m happy and continuing to write from the middle of the ocean. Living a happy life with my boyfriend and our dogs. Hope to be a mom someday, recording vocals from the house and doing what I love without sacrificing my dignity and soul. While I do have a decent voice, I suck at caring too much about the things that don’t matter. Moving here has helped that, but hearing this interview changes the game…… This interview I’ve needed to hear for years. Thank you! ❤

    This is inspiring. I’ve been making music for over 10 years and to see someone be able to make a living off music without all of the glitz and glame is amazing. Like Nic I prefer to live a peaceful quiet life with my family but also extremely passionate about making music. To see someone actually accomplish doing both in their 30’s definitely gave me some motivation I needed.

    The part where Nic D says "where you put your energy is what's going to grow" really resonated with me. I've been posting music on Spotify for about a month but I'm also in college and I felt at peace when I was making music and posting it rather than doing college work.

    • @wyattgrigor1995
      @wyattgrigor1995 6 месяцев назад +9

      Yea homie but we ain't all Nic D. Get that degree and keep pursuing music, you will know when the right time is to focus in on one or the other. Problem is a lot of people just do the " Oh bro I so relate to this, they are me, I am them " and it's like no... The second you try and follow someone elses blueprint you already aren't being true to yourself. You like music cause it "comes easy" to you, there is also great joy and happiness in mastering the things that don't "come easy" to you.

    As someone who doesnt make music or own a business or anything. Nic is so down to earth and I love how he uses quotes or stories of successful people and its not in a way of a speech, it'd real. Kyle also asking great questions, not overloading or invading anything, so much humble energy coming from this

  • @neonbeatz661
    @neonbeatz661 7 месяцев назад +10

    Damn, I just realized all meaning, theme, sentiment, tone, symbolism, and everything in music just doesn't matter anymore. No more writing songs with the intent to go down in history, to resonate with the broken teen, to uplift and give confidence to the hopeless, etc. Now, I need to add a transcript with the beat as a bonus, even a bundle. Or, a subscription (thanks Nic)! D, just dropped a bomb on us all.

    • @tanneragpoon
      @tanneragpoon 6 месяцев назад +11

      I hate that

    • @brion_aiota
      @brion_aiota 5 месяцев назад +2

      I wouldn’t say it doesn’t matter but I think it only matters to the same relative amount of fans that it’s always mattered to ie a small percentage of total listeners, so I think it’s still very much worth caring about as an artist but if we solely rely on that, our chances of establishing a sustainable career in a reasonable amount of time are much lower.
      To pop off as fast as possible and acquire that core fanbase that will care about the deeper meaning, symbolism, etc we need to adjust our approach to a strategy that goes with the flow of people’s consumption habits to give ourselves the platform that is effective enough for the super fans to find us.
      The two approaches are not mutually exclusive. Nobody is gonna be deterred from listening to the shorter, more easily made, less deep music/content because we also make longer, more meaningful pieces. Do both.
      This is coming from someone that places a lot of value on deeper meaning and connection. I have to make that switch myself to a strategy of quantity over quality and find a balance that works for me as I don’t think just making vapid art is the key, but the momentum is more valuable than grinding over details. It’s clear that it’s currently the most effective way to go about it.
      The best song ever written will rot in obscurity if nobody ever has a chance to hear it.

    i like what was said about being a true artist and needing to value business. One could argue, once you release your music to the world, its no longer yours, its the worlds. So, its a blessing when you think about it, to make a living off of sharing how you see the world. You don't own anything but your expression. and expression is a passing moment, not something you own all the time. and thats the value that is provided to people. not some audio file. good talk for sure.

    This is all gold. I've been doing a music a long time and hope that people getting into it with the old, getting robbed way of thinking (i.e. get signed, get management, etc.) watch this and really hear what Nic is saying. Deeply.
    And an incredibly important thing to note is: What Nic D has, in addition to fearsome business acumen, is top level ability as a pop songwriter, producer, and artist. Don't forget -- you need that, too. And it's very rare.

    I think often when people have humble beginnings it's easy to see them as "simple" so much so, they may even see themselves as "simple". He's got a vibe/energy (normally I HATE when people say this ) that's undeniable. He just seems like a super chill, down to earth dude that is wise beyond his years. It makes complete sense why he is blowing up, that "Jake Paul" be as polarizing as possible works for some RUclipsrs/Musicians but anyone with longevity understands the full circle. Nic D understands.
