The first time I really listened to the words of this song, I was crying by the end of it. I actually had the great privilege of attending their concert in 1994 when they came to Birmingham, AL. It was absolutely mind blowing. An experience I’ll never forget and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it.

At that time I didn't understand a Word, but every time I heard it, every song gave me different feelings. I felt angry, sad, exited, etc. So, because this album, I told my parents that I needed to learn English. Because I needed to understand the meaning of those amazing songs. It's my go to music on a long haul flight. I just listened to the entire album on a flight from Dubai to Singapore. Fabulous. I forgot I was squashed into a cattle class seat...it just took me to another place

I am 63 now. I was 13 years old when this album was released. It was the very first album I ever bought. At the time, it was the song "Money" the reason for getting the LP. But as I listened to the whole album, I was mesmerized by all this new style of music (it was new to me at the time). I was listening to all the top 40 pop songs back then mostly and what is now known as Classic Rock was beginning to become a staple on the radio. I never really read into the lyrics back then being 13 and all, now though, I understand. It is amazing to me that this music is relevant today as it was back then. It definitely falls into the category of timeless. Like many my age say when we see these reactions by a new generation to the music our youth, I am truly elated that you are experiencing what we did back then with these tunes. There is an old Chinese saying that goes: I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand Obviously they didn't listen Pink Floyd. I heard and felt the music....I understood.
3:16 Allan Parsosns ( of the Allan Parsons Project) was the producer/engineer of this album, he went in to a clockshop and had all clocks in the store go off at the same time and recorded it there on the spot, to make te start of the song. He was a protege of George Martin (legendary Beatles producer) and was still working in The Abbey Road Studio's when Pink Floyd came to record Dark Side of the Moon
The live version from the tour PULSE 1994 is sublime, they feature many songs but also perform Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety, highly recommend =)

best way to enjoy pink floyd is to get a full album make sure you got a couple of hours spare put it on and just drift away..... some of the best music ever produced.

I'm ready dating myself here, but I remember that it only took four people to perform this live. Plus whoever was running the soundboard and mixers. Early days like 1974 when concerts started moving into arenas. Still one of the shows that I can vividly remember after all this time.
I may have already mentioned this, but my first ex-wife was a bit younger than me, so I introduced her to Pink Floyd. The first time she heard this she freaked out a little because she had a "thing" about loud bells. But she fell in love the PK almost as much as I do.

If you have not, you need to hear Echoes, both the Studio, audio original and see the live performance of it at Pompeii 1972 in the ancient Roman amphitheatre, an amazing setting and take. The observation that Floyd creates the long intros in order to put you in THEIR mood is very insightful and one that I have thought of, but reactors miss that. Saw Floyd do the Dark Side tour, at Earls Court, London (my home) in the mid 70’s. I was in my early teens. Being a Londoner I’ve been to many concerts at all the landmark venues, but this one is the most memorable. They are just perfection. We have so much talent in our tiny country 🏴🇬🇧
In the original studio version it was just the four (David Gilmour, Richard Wright, Nick Mason, and Roger Waters), with backup vocalists the only other performers...lots of double tracking and overdubs. When they do this on the Pulse version, there are 10 people involved - 2nd drummer (Gary Wallis), keyboard )Jon Carin), and guitar (Tim Renwick), and three singers (Sam Brown, Durga McBroom, and Claudia Fontaine RIP). Bassist Guy Pratt replaced Roger waters in 1989. All this was done to better produce the studio sound without recordings (except for the intro clocks).

Us who were kids and young teens when TDSOTM came out were blown away by what we were hearing, just as those are today who are hearing their material for the first time. Another Floyd album -- Wish You Were Here ( 1975 ) -- is about as amazing as TDSOTM. Animals ( 1977 ) is right up there with these two, although it might take a listen or two before it grabs hold of you. Meddle ( 1971 ) is also great, and was the album that was a precursor to what Pink Floyd would eventually produce, getting away from the mostly psychedelic material on their earlier albums. And as good as Led Zeppelin was, and many other bands that were around in 1970 or so, Pink Floyd stands out. I would put Yes in the same stratosphere as Pink Floyd, along with Emerson, Lake and Palmer. "Fragile" by Yes and "Tarkus" by ELP are mesmerizing albums, and are not close to being these bands' only great albums. But I still say Pink Floyd trumps every other band. Simply too good over a long period of time, realistically. With very deep lyrics to add to the ingenious music. I have to mention Floyd's "The Wall" double album ( 1979 ). While it is obviously a very good album, with some of their best individual songs, overall I think it is a step down from TDSOTM, WYWH and Animals. I'm sure many will disagree with me on this assessment. But that is to be expected. All 4 albums are incredible.

Ideally this song should be heard as a part of the whole album. And the way it was intended to be heard was as an analog quadraphonic mix (analog so your ears get the full, rich sound and the won't start hurting if you turn the volume up to even moderate levels). You'll notice that there are lots of spots on the record where you hear odd voices and footsteps wandering across the speakers. These were meant to appear as being behind the listener, who they figured would most likely be a stoner, and thus probably a bit paranoid - freak out! Now, for a really weird, but wonderful experience of this album, search for Dub Side of the Moon. Trust me, you won't regret it lol.

Actually just the band itself. Sometimes it appears as though they will add a rhythym guitarist or another keyboard but really they have performed it with just the band most of the time.

Ideally this song should be heard as a part of the whole album. And the way it was intended to be heard was as an analog quadraphonic mix (analog so your ears get the full, rich sound and the won't start hurting if you turn the volume up to even moderate levels).
You'll notice that there are lots of spots on the record where you hear odd voices and footsteps wandering across the speakers. These were meant to appear as being behind the listener, who they figured would most likely be a stoner, and thus probably a bit paranoid - freak out!
Now, for a really weird, but wonderful experience of this album, search for Dub Side of the Moon. Trust me, you won't regret it lol.
There are only four of them, but I imagine there is plenty of studio work to complete the full sound.
And of course, the backing vocals.
