  • Queen Somebody To Love Live from Montreal Reaction. Freddie Mercury's performance here is one I wish I got to see. The whole atmosphere just seemed so alive. Queen Somebody To Love has meaning and a timeless sound in my opinion. Found myself going back and forth between this song and Queen Bohemian Rhapsody daily. I'm happy you introduced me to this band, sounds like they may just be my favorite theater rock band moving forward.

    Lyrics / Paroles :
Can anybody find me somebody to love?
Each morning I get up I die a little
Can barely stand on my feet
Take a look in the mirror and cry
Lord what you're doing to me
I have spent all my years in believing you
But I just can't get no relief, Lord!
    Somebody, somebody
Can anybody find me somebody to love?
I work hard every day of my life
I work till I ache my bones
At the end I take home my hard earned pay all on my own -
I get down on my knees
    And I start to pray
Till the tears run down from my eyes
    Lord - somebody - somebody
Can anybody find me - somebody to love?
    (He works hard)
    Everyday - I try and I try and I try -
But everybody wants to put me down
    They say I'm goin' crazy
They say I got a lot of water in my brain
    Got no common sense
I got nobody left to believe
    Yeah - yeah yeah yeah
    Oh Lord
    Somebody - somebody
Can anybody find me somebody to love?
Got no feel, I got no rhythm
I just keep losing my beat
    I'm ok, I'm alright
    Ain't gonna face no defeat
I just gotta get out of this prison cell
Someday I'm gonna be free, Lord!
    Find me somebody to love
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

You can remove the word Queen from this sentence and be just as relevant. Great reaction. we were in the zone and destressing as he was suggesting at the time this was paused - but broke the vibe. Obvious we know pausing is needed and relevant for a reaction channel - just guitar solos are the sacred cow of rock for their fans, and is the point most are totally zoned out.

Yes...the drummer, (Roger Taylor) sings too. Roger has a 3-4 octave vocal range and provided the high notes in most every song. In addition to being musically talented, they are all extremely intelligent and each holds at least one degree. Freddie Mercury has a degree in graphic design. He created the band’s logo which represents the Zodiac signs of the band members. The two fairies represent Freddie. (Virgo, September 5 birthday.)The two lions (Leo - Roger, July 26, John, August 19 birthdays) represent Roger Taylor (drums and vocals - studied dentistry, degree in biology. John Deacon (Bass-degree in electronics. Created the Deaky amp for Brian May’s unique guitar sound). Doctor Brian May, (Cancer the Crab Birthday July 19. Doctorate degree in Astrophysics, worked with NASA. Built his guitar (the Red Special) along with his dad, from a piece of mantle and other household odds & ends. Still his primary instrument. Of course the drummer sings too, sometimes when Fred's voice would start crapping out on him at the end of a tour, Roger would just take over the vocals while drumming! Brian can sing too! "Let Me Live" is a song that they all sing about a third of each. The song was released on the Made In Heaven album 4 years after Freddie died. Towards the end, Fred could only record a few lines at a time, and so they all kicked in vocals a little bit more. Freddie does the first verse, then Roger with his "heavy metal" voice and then Brian with his "hair band" voice. Is it any wonder that when you put them all together, you get pure MAGIC?
On Freddie's last day in the studio, they were recording "Mother Love." They got all the way to the last verse, and Freddie said "I just can't do anymore today, I will finish it next time," but he never made it back into the studio. Brian does a beautiful job of singing the last verse, but it's heartbreaking to listen to it.
Here is Let Me LIve, so you can hear all their very distinctive voices.

"every member can sing" And every member was inducted into the Songwriters' Hall Of Fame, because every single one of them wrote at least one #1 hit song. Each one of them was extremely talented, and it's rare to have that much talent in one band that actually works together without conflict.
And you've hit the nail on the head when it comes to modern pop music. It's why I stick to heavy/alternative genres. They're fundamentally unfriendly for advertisers, so they have no ulterior motives. The worst examples of "selling out" that you can find in metal are like, someone accepting a sponsorship from Ibanez or Fender and being an "exclusive artist" who only plays those instruments... And that's not a big deal, because a lot of people already prefer one name over another without getting paid for it.
(Side note: I know a lot of similar themes and raw emotions can be found in rap and many other genres, but rock and metal are my home.)

Actually John Deacon, bassist, did not sing. During live shows he would sometimes “sing” but the audio level on the mike was turned down to nearly zero. Despite not singing he was an incredibly gifted musician and song writer. The members of Queen often had arguments and fights but this conflict helped them creatively most of the time. John Deacon even wrote a song called “Back Chat” that address some of the disagreements and tension.

Check out their live aid performance. But first from a music standpoint, Bohemian Rhapsody. No auto tune, but they multitracked their vocals. I am not sure of the number but the guitarist said 18 times. Roger Taylor is the drummer that can hit the highest notes. John is the amazing bass player that came up with their the amazing riffs. Sorry. Name blank. The guitarist was better than anyone. That bass lead into Under Pressure was John deacon playing around. Today think of “Ice Ice baby.” He got sued by them. Successfully. John deacon also came up with that bass lead for “we will rock you.”

Don't forget Roger's backing vocals while playing the drums. Concerts are not like that today. No lip syncing whatsoever. Pure natural talent. ❤️🔥

Just to clarify, Freddie Mercury never had a coming out song to announce his sexuality preference. He advertised it on a daily basis. He just flat out didnt care who knew. The fact is, the song Bohemian Rhapsody was a nod to the opera community and style of music. Freddie wanted to prove to the world Rock music could crossover into opera.
The fact is, the musical Tommy had already done that years earlier. (FYI, the movie Tommy would be an interesting movie to react too. just throwing it out there if you love different platforms of music)
I just recently found your channel and enjoy your videos.

Yes the drummer does indeed sing...has released his own albums. The guitarist Brian May was an astronomy research student when Queen started so he put his PHD on 'temporary hold' thinking the band may not get far...30 years later, he completed his degree. He's now Dr Brian May PhD. How cool is it being a guitar hero & astrophysicist?. BTW...Live Aid 1985, Queen just floored everyone, widely regarded as the best rock performance of all time. 20 minutes of pure musical genius.

If you want to hear a new talent who just like queen don't need autotune, who are getting very big and in my opinion are following in the footsteps of Queen in that they are all very talented performers, great songwriters, have a great connection with their live audiences and have a lead singer who is phenominal, then please listen to Nothing but Thieves. I would suggest you perhaps start with Impossible - studio version, Impossible live at Abbey Road, Sorry, Paricles, Amsterdam, If I get high etc. etc. So many great songs to choose from.

Roger Taylor’s drums always get under my skin and take over my own heartbeat, so I FELT that chest-pounding you were doing! Re his voice: God gave Roger, Brian and Freddie vocal cords of steel and it shocks me that Brian and Roger are still singing at age 70+. (How did the years of cigarettes -and other things - not destroy them by now?) Brian May recently said, “Roger is a TERRIFYINGLY good singer.” I’d love to know if he ever had professional vocal training for that 4-octave voice.

Thank you for being genuine. Enjoy your experience as you discover more of Freddy Mercury and Queen. I grew up with this music and the transitions of popular music that lead to Queen, including Phil Colins, David Bowie, The Stones and so many more. It's lovely to see you reacting to these songs that I've known and loved for decades. Couple things:
    - This song was started playing in my house right when a saw a picture of a puppy that needed adoption. I got him and named him Freddie, just about a year ago.
    - Did you know that amazing guitar player is DOCTOR Brian May, PhD? I found this out while I was looking at books about space in the bookstore, and looked at the author's page, and went, "man, that guy has great hair, he looks just just like... WAITAMINUTE!!!" Yes, turns out Brian May put earning his doctorate in astrophysics on hold in 1974 because his band, Queen, started doing so well. Later (in 2007) he went back and finished. So yeah, he's also an expert on matters of deep space. ALSO, in fact checking myself just now, I learned that Dr. Brian May, guitarist for Queen at age 67, was among the first twelve people or so who was made an actual Knight for his services to music and charity by the newly crowned King Charles III of England. So. Legendary guitarist, doctor of astrophysics, and a legit Knight...! I think this just goes to show you that chasing your dreams is always a good idea, and that it's never too late.
I can't wait to hear what you get into next!
