We traveled on the long distance train all the way from Chengdu, in Sichuan province, to Xining, and then onwards to Turpan, and as soon as we arrived in Turpan, we dove deep into the street food scene and tried our hardest to eat all of the western china street food dishes. A lot of the dishes we tried really reminded me of central asian street food. The insanely delicious hand made roast baozi in this street food video was definitely of the best street foods that I’ve tried in China! So far, I’ve tried and sampled street food in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Chengdu (in Sichuan province), and all around china, but after coming here to Turpan in Xinjiang in deep western China, I was blown away at how delicious it was and can say that this is definitely one of the best street foods around the world!
Everything we tried, and in particular these roast baozi, made by baking them deep in a tandoori oven, was really cheap. The local language is Uighur, but I got by with Mandarin Chinese, although it would have been a little better if I studied a little Uighur language to have some better interaction with the locals. Overall, our experience in Turpan eating delicious street food was amazing! It is definitely one of the best street food cities we've been to in 2017!
Here are the locations in this street food video:
1) Kao baozi AKA Samsa AKA roast beef buns (INSANELY DELICIOUS baozi baking) -
2) Meat feast and Uighur specialties dinner - featuring hand pulled noodles and hand grasped mutton as well as Polo, central asian Pilaf! -

HUGE THANKS to ExpressVPN for offering all Food Ranger viewers 3 months free and 49% off their yearly package using this link: ExpressVPN.com/Thefoodranger . Travelers need ExpressVPN to stay safe online and to unblock any site. I personally use it for Netflix, even while at home in Canada, but also while traveling to unblock content and episodes that are geoblocked, and I also use it for security, because airport wifi and hotel wifi is often very insecure, leaving my data vulnerable. By connecting to one of their servers around the world, it’s just like my computer or phone is in that location, and all data sent while connected to their VPN is secure, safe, and private from others to see, so I know that my data won’t be hacked or looked at by others. Thanks so much for watching, and we have tons more videos coming up for you! Please leave me a comment below letting me know what you thought about this episode, thanks so much!!!

The only thing I've ever seen Trevor wince at was lamb brain...or some sort of brain. My man ate it straight from the skull. Keep it up Trev, your content is fantastic.
I love this series being a Muslim who always wanted to visit China and try their food it's good to know that it might be possible for me to do that, Thank you so much for this.
Al a Halal food and muslim food is everywhere in China, it is pretty popular there
not everywhere in east China.
haha M Almost every tier1 plus tier2 cities in the east have halal restaurants lool what ar e you talking about
trust me you can find Halal food in every city in China. Halal food is decently popular. Muslim represent around 10 million population in China. I am from a Muslim autonomy province in China called Ning Xia. half the population there is Muslim.
All the foods I saw is in my country Uzbekistan and you don't need to be Muslim to go there I am jewish
This is truly one of the most unique and genuine channels on RUclips! I love this guy. So respectful, he has learned the language well, and he knows how to immerse himself in the Silk Road culture to give us an in-depth look at what a trip to China might be like. Excellent!
This is beautiful uygur people.
Assalomu alaykum.
I'm loving the Silk Road tour! It's great to see parts of China that I would never see otherwise. Great video, Trevor!

That lady at 10:25 is crazy enthusiastic about her job
...
Thanks that made my day haha ^^
I thought she was rude at first, but then I thought maybe she is taking the order through the cellphone
I think she is booking the food on her phone with an app or something
she uses some apps to to take the order XD it come really handfull with those apps
saulfreedman 😂😂😂😂😂
10:50 the waitress looks really happy about her job
you probably make more in 1 day than she makes in 2 weeks
@@whypopme88 In no way comparable, we do not have the same cost of living, it must be taken into account that one Renminbi (RMB) is worth 0.14 USD.
@ no one will under attack just because of different nations. Yes, The government of china is very powerful, but will only attack anyone who wants to disrupt social order. Even if he is an atheist communist, yes, a socialist China will also attack communists.
In other countries waitstaff isn’t required to put on a faux happy veneer and dance for tips. All that matters is whether or not the food is good and that it reaches your table in a timely manner. That’s how things ought to be.
Hi, Trevor - thank you so much for making this series! A unique chance to see parts of China (that we know exists, but...). Amazing, simple food!

I heard that China has the best inquisitive food.
Deli Veizi seriously my god, this will literally be a porn movie. Way too much mmmm ooooooh aaaaahh!
Deli Veizi He did NOT "MMMMM" when he ate the packaged food on the train to Wuhan...gave the dumplings 2 outta 10! 😝
I love the map feature you added! It's nice to be able to watch your videos and become more familiar with the geography of China. It isn't something I have ever had the opportunity to have much exposure to, so I appreciate it!
As usual, you showed incredibly good food. I get super hungry whenever I watch this. I hope I will manage to go on such journey. Keep up the good work!!
What a fantastic series. Keep up the good work!
Outstanding, China is rich in diversity and culture, greetings from South America Brazil!

Best RUclips Channel ever? You can feel happiness by seeing this guy eating, like magic
I don't think I've ever had anything quite like those baozi, they looked really good.
It's a perfect fusion food I ever seen. The baozi dumpling with beef inside and a light middle east seasoning with tandoori cooking. Wow....it's a next level of perfection ❤️❤️❤️
The food line up on this vid looks amazing and delicious!
I love when you upload these in the morning on the weekends. They make me so hungry though.
I like it when you explore the outskirts and neighborhoods you should do more of that
Thanks so much! I'm glad to know that!
The food man in Turpan! man those roasted boazi looked delicious, Chinese food with muslim influences, how awesome!
EastWindBreaks it's Chinese food made by Muslims, lamb and beef stuffing baozi are very common across China.

Fantastic. I cannot say how much I enjoyed this, the food looked spectacular. Interesting all the different things they incorporate pumpkin into. Everything looks so nutritional and has spices and texture but nothing you ate seemed tough. Oh my gosh, just amazing. The breads...from the Middle East to these other foreign lands, they are all so similar.
As a food truck owner, I am so so jealous of both trevor james and all these amazing entrepreneurs.
I think Food truck owner is awesome.
i dont know if street restaurant owners can be called "entrepreneurs" lmao
FAN ZHEN They're making their own dough with their business. That's an entrepreneur. They don't need to be dressed up in suits to be one.
HIDAYATOFARURU lol yea rich AF. Some famous street food owners of China buy ferrari lol
Food Network needs to give you a show of your own.. you really bring that joy and happiness in what you do. Food Network make it happen!!

@Hashimoto Altai ассалому алекум
People have asked me in the past, what is my favorite Chinese cuisine? Answer, Xinjiang Cuisine. It's the perfect blend of thousands of years of turkic/middle eastern/Chinese style cooking molded into one.
That "rice pilaf" is out of this world, I've never had anything like it. That natural soft melt in your mouth lamb fat and meat, mixed with the sweetness of carrots which tastes and has more of a texture of pumpkin. That "kao baozi" bread is like a mix between a bagel, croissant, and pizza crust. Outside it's got that char and crisp, next layer is chewy, and last layer is puffy/foldy like a croissant (but not as light).
This is just a small portion of many, of my favorites was a lamb meat pie that was seasoned with raisins. Really unique flavor, but that crust was amazing.
complete agreement with you there. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Western Chinese food. Something 95% of Americans out there have probably never tasted.

Been enjoying watching this "the food ranger" very educational so much to know and see the different culture, different way of cooking food. It's so nice that the place he is showing is not touristy, not the high end restaurant. Thanks Trevor and Ting ting for the effort.

HI again Trevor.. nice job on this silk road series...makes you want to jump on a plane and head to China. Your question and answer episode was a great thought and congrats on you and your fiancee she seems really sweet...you make a wonderful pair..!!! Have you ever walked down a street and felt (I don't think we should go there, or is everyone just really nice?) Did you ever think about coming back here to Canada to do the food thing in Vancouver or Toronto as a bit of cultural contrast? Just thinking.... Love what you do... all the best . Gregory
The best video I’ve watched in a long time.
The way and the sound when the baozi peels and drops off from the sides of the tandoor is so mesmerizing.. I'm putting it on loop!

She's awesome
Trevor, Anthony Bourdain has nothing on you! This is absolutely amazing! The gateway into a culture and the "real people" is their food, and what I find amazing about your videos is the places you've gone and seen that we would never see in conventional television. Kudos, if there was any way any of us in the west are to understand China and Asia, your videos should be mandatory watching. Thanks so much!
awesome! Stay safe venturing through those alleys.
Making me miss the food of western China! You're the man, Trev
