@@michaelprice8207 don’t stop. There is literally no possible way you can’t be fluent within a few years if you just keep it up. I’m excited every day to learn more history and language. I want to help revive the language in America as well, which will in turn revive the culture. If the language wasn’t so beat down before we came here in the millions then I believe it would have helped keep the culture alive in a lot of the American Irish.
Received my copy today and am very impressed by the format as well as the style of writing. Just 3 chapters in I feel that I already have a greater understanding of the language as well as the people of Ireland. Mollie is clearly a talented teacher and writer.😊
I haven't been studying Irish in like 9 months (no excuse really, just got frustrated and discouraged) and I'm sad because I just found out a couple weeks ago that I'm going to Ireland NEXT WEEK and I don't have nearly as much Irish as I hoped I would have before visiting for the first time. I know that it's expected to speak English there since many Irish folks don't speak Irish themselves, but as an American of Irish descent, I wanted to show respect and reverence to the homeland my family came from. Unfortunately, since I haven't been studying all along, there isn't much time for me to go beyond refreshing my extremely limited vocabulary and practically nonexistent grasp on the grammar. However, I do still want to learn the language, and I will definitely go and preorder your book now! Thank you for being so passionate about bringing the Irish language to more people. It's really amazing!

I have recently discovered my ancestry is mostly Irish and I have never wanted to learn a language as much as I've wanted to learn Gaeilge. It's difficult with limited resources but I will absolutely be getting this book. It's one of if not the most beautiful language I've ever heard and if I can do my part to keep it alive, I so very much want to. Thank you for this. Really looking forward to getting the book. Can't wait to read this. I agree about direct translation. Some teachers will give you a gloss for the phrase in English. E.g. this means I'm sad. But knowing Tá brón orm literally helps you appreciate an saibhreas as an teanga but also helps you construct your own sentences. Anyway, comhghairdeas. I hope it does really well for you.

Congratulations! I hope your book does really well! I'm 59 and American. My family still had some Irish when I was growing up and it was spoken frequently. But at school, more than once, I was yanked out of my seat or slapped by a teacher and shoved out the door to go to the principal's office for speaking it. The teacher had me by my arm while she spat out, "We do Not speak ERSE!". This was in the 70's. We were strongly discouraged from speaking it and they made it sound like only poor, dirty people spoke it. (Gaeilge and Gaelic were lumped in together under the "Erse" umbrella). Then the older relatives who did have the Irish, passed on. So what I had was basically, little kid Irish or older, no slang Irish and after decades of not even using that, I lost most of what I did remember. Those teachers just made me want to hold onto as much as I could but I've only got scraps here and there. Basically, just enough to talk to the cat. I am relearning it now. We need more media in Gaeilge!

That is shocking to me now but I know things like that were “normal” at school. I think that you’d really enjoy the book, it’s ideal for those reconnecting with the language 😁
Thank you for replying. Which part shocked you? That the Irish who emigrated to America passed on Gaeilge? That it was still spoken more than one generation away? Or that it was looked down on with disgust? I remember seeing "Apartment for Rent" signs that still said, "No coloured or Irish". It was more than systemic racism. I grew up in Michigan and the racism was pretty loud. I left in 1982 and didn't visit much. I am looking forward to reading your book. Maybe you'd be interested in the history of the Irish who came to America.
