Its very cool to see, with all you experience, the proper way to season the PIT BOSS griddle...also very cool to see PIT BOSS making a cast iron griddle, adding more options for griddlers everywhere...thanks for profiling and sharing the magic sauce to seasoning like a pro!!! Another banger!!
Two finishing tips:
1 from Blackstone Betty, and one from myself.
1. Dice up 5-6 white onions and cook them up for your first cook. Helps even out your layers. Will help you get by with only 3-4 layers vs 7-8.
2. A good seasoning takes a lot of propane. Make sure you have a backup ready so you don’t mess up that first family cook…….
Excellent tips! The one time I used onions, I ended up burning them on the griddle…😂🤙 - I didn’t dice them, and agree it’s an excellent tip!! Much love fam!!🔥🔥
@@waltwins The first batch of diced onions are sacrificial. They will help even out your seasoning, and help get it into the corners better! Plus, much cheaper and happier than wasting bacon or something else!
Came out pretty nice! Can’t wait to see you cook on this machine! Cheers and Griddle On!
Thank you fam! Can’t wait to show off more!!
nice job man. I also make sure I get the out sides when it's cool enough. also 5 to 9 seasonings are perfect. keep the videos coming. cheers
Thank you so much fam!! We love getting to season a new griddle! Cannot wait to share the cooks!!!
That's definitely a great video! I used peanut oil on my flat top. I did four applications and right after that cooked quite a few mounds of bacon. Like you said any high smoke point oil oh yeah and neutral flavor should work pretty decent.
Peanut oil would be amazing!! We’d have to be careful for those who may have peanut allergies - we love using it when we can though! Much love brother, GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥
Good looking griddle. I like how the lids fold out to become shelves.
I'm enjoying my copy of your epic outdoor griddle cookbook.
George! You have no idea how much we appreciate that! We worked so hard on that book, and our upcoming “Smashed”! We thank you so much brother! Griddle on!!!😁❤️🤙
man, that griddle looks fantastic, i did my baby Vevor 14' Griddle the same way and my first cook was 2 eggs, i noticed that they were sliding towards the back of the griddle top, yep, the seasoning went very well, but i then realized it was not level, all good now, 2 thumbs up man, thanks for the awesome tutorial.
I only have a Blackstone. I'm glad you're doing cooks on the Blackstone again.
Wahoo!! We hope that some of the cooks we do on this will help out!!🔥🔥
Great informative video my friend!!! Much Luv! GRIDDLE ON!!!
Thank you brother!! First cook will be up on Saturday!! GRIDDLE ONE INDEED FAM!!🔥🔥
Very cool. But when you say a tablespoon and then actually use about 10 times that amount of oil it is kind of funny.
Thank you for watching! Technically, said “about 1-2 tbsp…” it may have been closer to 3 to your point…😂😂. As long as you can wipe in a thin coat you’re good to go! Much love fam!!🔥🔥
@@waltwins At around the 10 minute mark you said to use around one half to one tablespoon. To my eye it looks like you then used at least 5 times that much. I had noticed that earlier in the video as well.
Sorry for nitpicking. I did appreciate the video. I just bought my first grill for use on my indoor oven and I was up until 3 am last night seasoning it. It made a great breakfast this morning, and was a joy to use with such low sides and a larger surface than my biggest frying pan. My IR gun showed more temerature variation than I expected, but I have learned that is normal even on big griddles like yours..
Glad to see you cooking on the cast iron top again. There is just something about the sound of the spatulas hitting the surface. Personally I'm not a fan of the non stick surface griddles but will watch all your videos and incorporate them on my cast top griddle.
Thank you brother! We for sure will have more to come! I love cooking on both and honestly love them the same, but as you said, there’s something about the metal utensils - they just hit different!😂😂🔥🔥
GREAT VIDEO AND LOOKING FORWARD TO THE COOKBOOK
Thank you as always fam!!🔥🔥
Thanx a lot, i just received my new grill, koenig plx940. Can i use this procedure for this grill? And how can i clean it after use? I suppose not using a degreaser spray or similar right? Love your videos❤
Thank you for the video, it was a great help seasoning my griddle. It took me 4 times to get it completely seasoned 👍
Oh awesome!! Congratulations fam!! Do you have this same unit?🔥🔥
@@waltwins I have the combo fryer blackstone griddle
@@tonymarfil1935 excellent unit! You’re gonna love it!
@@waltwins thank you and I enjoy watching your videos. 👍
Awesome. I like the cast iron, 😎👍
Thank you so much! We have been so impressed! We can’t wait to share some cooks!!🔥🔥
I just got my pit boss after going through 2 Blackstone 2 burners. Wanted to go bigger and like the front grease management system. On sale at a hardware chain for 299. PB wants 349 I believe. Come on PB. thanks for the refresher on seasoning.
Excellent video, thank you! I finally understand how to work with my griddle. I have a question for you, you talked about sections of the griddle that might feel sticky, or have bubbles and wrinkles. My griddle has some of this, and I believe you said it was caused by too much oil sitting in a particular place on the griddle.
What’s the best way to get this to be smooth like the rest of the griddle?
Hey guys love your videos one video I didn’t see and would love more info on Iv been wanting to get a griddle top for my grill would you recommend a stainless steel or carbon steel, also do both need to be seasoned for only the carbon steel needs the seasoning?
hi am new to grill... am wonder, what is season for? does it change taste or make less sticky?? also is difference between flattop grill vs griddle or is same?
Back to cast iron I see. I have not seen many smoke videos. I have done 3 pork tender loins since the new year. Get you some rosemary and garlic seasoning and encrust the pork using a yellow muster binder. Smoke 225-230 for about 2 hours if I remember. Add the kraut to a aluminum pan and put that in the smoker to warm up when cooking. It is money.
We didn’t leave the ceramic… we absolutely love it. This is a unit available from Pit Boss we wanted to sho.. they have both. And we love cooking on both. We are still smoking, but mainly on the side… please feel free to share more smoke recipes brother! Much love! Griddle on!!😁❤️🤙
I really appreciate you putting this video together.
You said you turned the temperature down some to keep it from starting to flake. About what temperature did you shoot for.
"1 to 2 tablespoons of oil" ....riiiight 😅 Adam's been watching too many Gordon Ramsay videos 😂
Just kidding, brother! Keep up the great work!
Haha!! Seems legit!😏😏
I found that Flaxseed became rather brittle over time. I started using Grape seed oil and it has been absolutely MONEY! 👊🏻
Great point, and it was an original concern - here in Central Florida with the excessive humidity, we were okay. We’ll see how it holds up here!! We may have to try grape seed oil too!!🔥🔥
Not to mention a 225° smoke point.
I agree Brian. Having used cast iron and carbon steel for YEARS, Grapeseed oil is superior to Flaxseed for seasoning. As you note Falxseed oil seasoned pans did develop a brittle surface. I stripped it and started using grapeseed oil. Never looked back.
Is avocado oil good?
@waltwins I'm about to season my 1st griddle and I too live in Florida. After reading this comment I'm wondering if you still recommend flaxseed oil? Thanks and love your video!
Thanks a lot fellaz!!!
For sure! Thank you so much for watching!🔥🔥
Hi Guys,
I live up here in NJ and am getting ready to get my Blackstone ready for its first cook of 2023. We have had a lot of rain this Winter and was wondering is there anything special I need to do before my first cook? My griddle was covered all Winter.
Thanks guys!
John
Hey fam, thank you for watching! As long as there is no rust, just wipe it with a paper towel, and then fire it up!
Thank you sir.👍
Such a fun process, it's almost like magic. I'm curious if you looked at temps with the temp gun to see how even it is. It was interesting to see that darker hot spot, I can't wait to now it cooks. Oh, cool that you mentioned the wheels being all locking casters. My Blackstone only has the two and it drives me bananas. To me it's a design flaw... all of them should have swiveling wheels! My patio surface is an aggregate concrete with pebbles, so it's kind of uneven in places and makes it really hard to move around anything with wheels. And where I have the griddled placed (The only place it works right now), makes me wish I had the wheels on the opposite side to easily pull out the griddle on one side so I can tend to the drain in back. ugh. Anyway, looking forward to all the great things coming. Hope we can chat soon. Griddle On!
Hey brother!! It’s so funny, I stopped using the temp gun, so put it away somewhere so safe I can’t find it..😂😂. I have been wanting to temp this out for sure, I may have to pick up another one!! Leveling the griddle is always a funny thing - I don’t worry agony it until we are filming, then I remember I didn’t get it leveled…😂😂. Oh well, the food still tastes amazing!!🔥🔥🤙🤙. GRIDDLE ON INDEED!!
A video on the basics of griddle dos and don’t when cooking would be awesome
Thank you so much for watching! Thats an excellent suggestion, thank you!! We’ll add it to the list!!🔥🔥
We use safflower oil. If it is good for professional woks, it is good for my house. You can definitely use any high smoke point oil.
I also think a lot of people get intimidated simply because they just made an investment they are hoping not to screw up.
This is so true!! We felt the same way at first, it’s why I try so hard to make every video something that anyone can follow - we keep it simple. Much love fam!!🔥🔥💙💙
Looks good really want to see a side by side smash burger cook off I still believe that the rolled steel gets a better crust then the ceramic
Agreed, and we can’t wait to do it!! Cheers fam!🔥🔥
Amazing
Thank you so much fam!!!🔥🔥
Hey guys I love the videos! The recipes are on point. What kind of gloves do you use for cooking??
Thank you so much for watching. Lately we have been using Golden Protective Services gloves. They are Nitrile gloves that you get 100 for a lot less than other brands we have used. But you’re pretty safe with any nitrile glove. We have used venom steel as well, available at Lowe’s. We hope this helps! Thanks again! Much love fam! Griddle on!!😁❤️🤙
@@waltwins thank you!
How do u reseason it mine is starting to flaking in spots
How smooth is that surface? My experience with cast-iron is that it’s not very smooth.
Brother Adam! Thank you for these timely instructional videos for those who need the tips and info. Excited for some upcoming cooks! Griddle on!
Thank you so much Jared!!! We always love your support brother! Griddle on!!!😁❤️🤙
@@waltwins I knew it was you Adam! My bad. Much love and salutations from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷!
The whole time I'm seasoning I'm standing there worrying about how much propane I'm using. I just grin and bear it. Can't wait for the cooking to begin.
Haha!! Yes! It definitely is a matter of “how many cooks am I sacrificing to season this” type situation!😂😂
Just barely turn the tank knob on/crack it - this way is uses just very minimal propane . .....
Omfg! Same!! I'm seasoning my new Blackstone while I'm watching this and thinking I'll sacrifice a tank to get a good season on this bad boy! But still ... So much propane on this 4 burner.
"only need to put 1 or 2 tablespoons"
proceeds to dump 5-6 tablespoons 😂
Haha! Right?!? Adam is pretty ambitious with his measurements!😂😂😂 Thank you so much for watching! Griddle on!😁❤️🤙
@@waltwins thanks for the content!
@@tinypantsbatch1002 always, fam!!🔥🔥🤙🤙
My seasoning never sticks on my griddle here in south Florida, no matter what oil I use. I never cover it and I do use flax seed oil or grapeseed oil.
Thank you for watching. Yes! More the. A grind here in Florida, we’ve learned the soft tops only invite moisture. Cheers!🤙🤙
This is a for when it’s brand new but what about when you re use it. Gotta do that whole process again or what is the process?
Thank you so much for watching! Great question! I just got the new deluxe model, and I recognize that the maintenance question is an important one - once you season the griddle, you would only do this process periodically. After each cook, you would clean the griddle, and once the griddle is cooled, you would lay a thin coat of oil on the griddle. We will do a clean and maintenance video soon! If you have questions, for sure feel free to reach out to us through Facebook or Instagram! 🤙🤙
When you're doing that initial seasoning, do you keep the temp on high the whole time? Thanks.
Thank you so much for watching! Yes, we keep it on. I know years ago there were videos explaining to let the griddle cool down between layers, but most keep it hot throughout the process. Most griddles will since hot spots, so if there is one area that is “screaming” hot, we lower that burner to medium-to-medium/high. Hope this helps!
Can I use sand paper and start over
She's a beaut, Clark!!
Haha!!! This is #FACTS
I some bulk pure avocado oil, you think I'll be good with that one?
Absolutely! Avocado oil is one we’ve heard others recommend, you should be good to go!!🔥🔥
@@waltwins thanks!
"Use a tablespon" uses a cup 😅 (i might be exaggerating a bit.) Good video thanks!
Flax oil has a very low smoke point. That probly why it was flaking on your blackstone.
Can OLIVE OIL be used ??
No , use a high point smoke oil (like avocado oil)
Look in the background all the griddles
It’s such a beautiful sight, isn’t it? We may or may not have a bit of a problem!😜 Thank you so much for watching! Griddle on!!!😁❤️🤙
@@waltwins it really is! Can a man have to many toys?
And well well well
Brother!! STILL on a roll!!!🔥🔥
Definitely off on the eye measurements. That'd be about 3 to 4 TBs each go. The last one is about 1 to 2 TBs with the vegetable oil.
Good eye, thank you for watching! We’ve seasoned a griddle so many times, you are correct, closer to 3-4 initially. Cheers!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️♥️
🔥🔥🔥🎉🎉🎉🎉🤗🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️🤙🤙🤙🤙😁😁😁😁
AVOCODO OIL !!
No need to wash griddle with soap ???
Yes , of its brand new "out of the box" you should always clean it first, with Luke warm and soap . Essential so your oil breaks down correctly while seasoning
Flax seen oil is literally the worth thing besides bacon grease
Thanks for the input. Cheers.
